RE: Is Socializing a Dying Thing in the RV Community?

we stayed in Leavenworth WA. on our way to South Dakota. it was a kOA and when we got to our site there were 3 bicycles on my pad. so I stop and get out and start to move them next door were there was a couple more bikes. a man comes out and says i'll take care of them. I said no problem i'm not going to be on this side of my T/T. he doesn't say any more and go's back inside. we are there the rest of the afternoon and until noon the next day and NEVER ONCE did we see them again outside. there must have been 3 kids and 2 adults what could you do all that time cooped up in an rv.( ah I know, they all had smart phones).you see this phenomenon all over, some places are like ghost towns or ghost camp grounds. RE: Camping Lights

Some of you tight wads need to rename your hobby to Cramping! Why should i let your cold dark cramping seep onto my warm Festive site? If I want dark and cold I'd camp in a cemetery. But I choose to camp with others,, and like a box of chocolates,,,,you never know what your going to get! Here's news people,, aint changing my life style to match yours,,Get over it!Just gotta love how you prove our points! What points,, am I missing something? Or am I not in the secret squirrel club? Your camping and want to control what everyone else does to suit you? Call the cops if I am bothering you! I am camping and enjoying being outdoors away from work! I have an array of solar LED decorations and the cops are gonna take me away? No ones gotten burnt yet! Ha Ha,,Your camp site----"Hey get off of my lawn,,Shut up,, turn that light off,, Stop laughing,,stop the cooking smell,,Oh god you closed your door and I can hear it,, Keep all of those bicycles out of my way,,Don't talk when you play board games and for gods sake Stop Cheering when some one wins at Corn Hole"!! I Have Camped joyfully next to Crampers just like you,, I love it!! I actually sleep good at night and don't fret about the Yard lights on!! And you wanna know my attitude about that? Thats the way its supposed to be!! Are we not allowed to enjoy camping cause your a Cramper? I don't work out of a cubical.. I serve the public, Even all my side jobs Serve the public in more ways than some. So if I take all my Stuff, kids and dogs, firewood and beef and go camping,, Well I am going to be laughing allot and loudly! I am gonna have a large camp fire! I will smoke a Brisket or pork shoulder,,Drink allot of beer and whiskey, gonna go fishing, play allot of board games and Toss games,, like washer Toss or Corn hole, we will cheer and laugh,, kids will stay up way past their bed time,Dogs will bark, somebody will need to make a run to the store a few times, breakfasts will be busy,, some like scrambled some like dip eggs, but we will be outside and voices will travel, sure enough a day or two into it a relative will show up late and we will make room, hopefully they brought more firewood for the 24 hour fire going, who doesn't like Smores for breakfast? So for you Crampers,, If i park next to you,,Enjoy,,I got a pulled pork sammy or a Smores for you,,I Got a beer or a drink for you,, feel free to pet the dog,,he's cool. Bring a chair and play "move Away" as we stoke the nights camp fire! But for gods sake,, BREATH,, its all good! Chances of Me being in the same spot next year is GOOD!! I can go along with that^^^ POITICS AND PERSONAL LIFE IS OUT. but I see nothing wrong WITH NORMAL chitchat, like with asking where are you from. I find it interesting to talk to people from other areas and about the area they live in. it use to be conversation starter. i'm in Coos BAY OR. and it seems like almost everywhere I go someone has ether live there or knows someone that does. conversation is amazing people should try it a little more often. RE: Is Socializing a Dying Thing in the RV Community?

I'm with POWERTURE on this, and no I don't think I've changed that much. other than i'm older, older in body but still a child in my mind as my wife says. we don't stay in ritzy campgrounds, just the normal run of the mill campgrounds. and it seams everywhere NO ONE is sociable. I don't think politic has much to do with it. its just people act like they are afraid of you, like what's he going to do to me or what does he want from me. we were at a C/G and I was just walking out with my dog, a Boxer the most friendly dog you'll ever see. as I get to the road there's a older lady walking her dog, there are no problems with the dogs. as we started walking the same way I said pleasantly can we join you. she looks at me in horror says nothing and turns around and starts walking the other way. that's fine to me no big deal, maybe I didn't smell good or something. but to not say anything is strange. RE: Coast on the uphills accelerate on the downhills

I can't agree with your technique at all. There is an rpm range that all engines pull best in. That is where you want to be. Gearing down and going slower will produce less heat. Yep ^^^ also trying to keep you converter locked is going to burn it up not designed to pull a 7000 or more T/T up a steep grade. only for hi gear and not pulling, luging the trans will heat it more. that's why transmissions have gears the more the better. let it shift down and keep the engine in the rpm range that makes the most power. big rig drivers don't lug there engines they run them at a certain rpm range for the best power range and adjust with there gear boxes. RE: Is Socializing a Dying Thing in the RV Community?

I can't figure it out ether, whats wrong. probably 40 years ago three of us jump on our Harleys and took off on a two week tour of northern Oregon and Sothern Washington. everywhere we stopped to camp the people were just great. I thought camping, what a great way to meet nice people. one evening we got to the camp ground at the top of Mnt. Rainer our camp site was nothing but large rocks. so we got to arguing who was going to get the picnic table to sleep on. when a lady from the RV adjacent to us came over with a smile and said, when you guy get this figured out come over and I'll make some martinis. we went over and soon us and some other people were playing cards the lady made some snacks and we had a great time. we finally broke up about 2 AM. she then pulled out a couple air matrasses for us to use. this was one of my greatest camping times you can sure bet this wouldn't happen now days. RE: Adhesive for Aluminum roof to plywood?

well it looks like the picture shows the insulation between the aluminum and the roof truss and top of the wall where it should be. also it should on the metal not only for heat purpose but to stop condensation. that's the proper way, it make no difference what you use felt, fiberglass or what ever. there needs to be something there to stop the condensation from getting the wood wet. Jay D.

RE: Adhesive for Aluminum roof to plywood?

The aluminum sheet on the roof of my TC isn’t glued to the wood at all. IIRC there is a layer of felt or closed cell foam between the aluminum and the wood, but it’s held down by the perimeter trim and screws. I don’t think I’d try to full-spread glue it. I would also pass on the EPDM, TPO, or any other flexible membrane roofing. Nothing beats aluminum. In other words, what he said ^ :B :):) yes you will want the felt or some kind of insulation that aluminum is going to sweat not a good situation. Jay D.

RE: Suspension Enhancements for Single Axle Trailer

I put shock on mine and it really smooth it out, but i'm tandem. it should work for you also. lowering is not so easy if you don't have tire clearance in the fender well. for the cost and return of an axle change your not going to gain much, your spending a 1000.00 to save 800.00.i would try the inexpensive things first, and maybe a cab high canopy to try and get the wind up over the trailer. also you may have to adjust your driving habits for better mileage. RE: Is Socializing a Dying Thing in the RV Community?

I,m with the O/P. we have got into the r/v seen about 3 years ago spent a month in Alaska, back to South Dakota and all over Oregon. I can safely say that only one place we stayed was there anyone near sociable. what's wrong with people theses days or is it just a different group of people camping now? we pulled off in a rundown campground somewhere in Canada. an soon a fellow was pulling in next to us he got parked and I said hello neighbor, when you get settled come over for a beer. he was traveling by himself and soon he was over and what a good time we had talking. the wife was getting ready to make something for diner and ask if he would like to join us, sure he said and got up and went to his R/V and came back with a large bag of fresh caught Halibut. we had a great diner and made a good friend. we all left the next morning and as he was pulling out he handed the wife a bag about 25# of more Halibut and said your nice people. 30 plus years ago me and three of my buddies went for a 2 week trip of Washington and Oregon. we were on Harleys and camping outside on the ground. I never meant so many nice people everywhere we went, it was great. you just don't see that any more. most people now act like your going to rob and **** them. i'm pretty bumbed about r/ving, anymore pulling into a campground is like pulling into a prison. RE: Adhesive for Aluminum roof to plywood?

why not use the EPDM rubber roofing material used on most RVs. its probably not much more than aluminum in cost and probably easier to install. use Dicor self leveling sealer for any penetrations and you'll be good to go. I sure wouldn't want an aluminum roof with screws of any kind in it if I was looking for long life. Google RecPro, Dicor EPDM roofing Jay D.

RE: Hot brakes and Tall trailers

Agreed. Sounds like too aggressive on the trailer brakes perhaps combined with too much depending on brakes instead of using lower gears and engine braking. If your TV lacks a tow/haul setting on the transmission, it is up to you to gear down at the top of a hill. Having an auto transmission does not make sticking it in D and forgetting it a good option outside of the “normal” non-towing transmission program, which is set to get you into the highest gear possible and take advantage of free-wheeling down hill to maximize gas mileage. I, too, tow with an SUV with a 6 cylinder engine. While the transmission has a sport mode, it has no tow/haul mode, so I put it into manual mode heading downhill. I can go down a 15% grade at speeds up to about 40 mph in second gear (6 speed gearbox) hardly using the brakes. A 7% grade on the interstate at 60-65 mph in third gear requires no brakes at all because of wind resistance. 2ND THIS ^^^ Get your brakes set properly and use your trans on down hills and you shouldn't have any problems. Jay D.

RE: Sway Control options - help please

How about this one? I don't have sway problems but I did install one of these, for the price why not. I did tighten it up coming across the desert in east Oregon with about a 30-40mph side wind. I think it helped a little, again I don't have much problem. just a side note I have a friend one of those that thinks if a little is ok then a lot is better. anyway I ask him how tight he sets his. he said you just have to play with it. he then said he tightened it real tight the first time and he couldn't turn the tow vehicle. RE: Built in vs. Stand-alone GPS?

my T/V didn't come with navigation but your phone will work, but after a trip to Alaska and using the phone we were lost all the time. I finally bought a Kenwood indash navigation unit and really like it it does everything. Jay D.

RE: Propane Question

I would think your heater is not going to run continually. it should heat up then shut down then when temps drop inside it will come back on. like on for 5 min. then off for 5min. depends on how well your insulated. Jay D.
