Need Generator Help!

Cummins-Onan Energy Command 30 5.5kW Marquis Gold Gasoline Generator HGJAB FWIW, this is basically the same generator we had on the 5er and I never had any problems there. What's the "trick" to refilling the oil? Very slowly trickled new oil down funnel into dipstick hole, didn't have a full quart in it and it starts spilling all over the place. Generator supposed to take a full 2 quarts. Very briefly ran it to get the filter filled up, thinking maybe that was the problem. Again slowly trickling oil thru the funnel, it almost immediately started spilling all over the place again. By trickling I mean trickling - I'm only pouring the oil into the funnel at a rate it doesn't back up in the funnel. Afterthought: is the trick in the refilling or in the draining? Just struck me that maybe somehow only half the old oil drained out. When I closed the valve it was dripping single drops every 15-20 seconds. And RV is absolutely level. ?

RE: Electric Jacks Lubricant

Wipe them down with Windex and the spray them with WD40 about once a year and they will work perfect NO! Not WD-40! 1st it's not a lubricant. More important, it'll dry and turn sticky in the process, collecting dust, dirt and whatever, leaving you with a mess to clean off. My go-to is dry silicone spray.

RE: Do you let you kids drive your motorhome

No way. Me or DW. Period. The last time I let someone barrow something - 12' covered utility trailer - he towed with a barrowed Cl-A. Both were returned with damage. SOB didn't have the decency to tell me about it in returning, he just dropped it off in the driveway when no one was home. After that experience I wouldn't, as said above, even loan out one of my wheelborrows.

RE: Mattresses

Yup. The mattress that we got with our Winnebago is pure unadulterated ****. In the research and weeding out process now, looking forward to comfortable nights in 2021...unlike 2020 was. Wish mightily we'd kept the mattress from the 5er - only a spring mattress but quite comfortable.

RE: What do you do?

Drink. Poke the fire with a stick. Drink some more. Poke the Gkids with the stick. Drink again. Tell DW I'm not hurting the Gkids any and besides I got to poke them now because in a few years they'll poke back.

RE: Handy Hints, Gadgets, Products & Gizmos

Too long since last bump. Lots of Hint & Tip lists refer to a whiteboard/dry-erase board for note-making. Our whiteboard solution is an unframed flexible magnetic whiteboard, the back of the whole thing being magnetic plastic or rubber. It fits the curve of the refrigerator freezer door and sticks like crazy. No more flat, framed whiteboard on the floor when we arrive at the campsite. Many sizes & brands available at Amazon, Walmart, etc.

RE: New Years camping.

Getting back to "old" tradition as well as this d*** virus, we'll be heading for the Gulf Coast soon as we get the RV out of maintenance - hopefully tomorrow. Before the Gkids came we'd head for the coast the day after Christmas, stay thru the weekend after the 1st. Now that the Gkids are all in their teens they don't have much time for us old Gparents.

RE: Dump Station Observations

Just as much fun as watching a busy boat launch. :) Hard to find anything better than the goings-on at a busy summer boat ramp. DW & I love sitting on the side, watching the show. Too often it's better at the ramp than being on the lake. Lots of non-friendly-to-younger-kids atmospheric disturbances...

RE: F53 suspension upgrades

I'd LOVE to see someone post photos of that CHF from before, each step of it, and after it's complete.

? Which Dehumidifier?

Wanted - dehumidifier recommendations. Must run on house current Must be capable of handling 2,500 cubic feet MUCH PREFER that it drains thru hose/tube instead of its own holding tank (this is where I really need recommendations, all the ones I've seen that drain via hose/tube are larger-than-I-need household machines).

What's Your "Theme"?

Wondering out of mostly idle curiosity if anyone besides us has a "theme" for their RV. I have an inherited psychological disorder that afflicts everyone in my family. Almost everything I/we do is over-engineered (where two nails is more than adequate I'll use four). When we graduated to what will be our last RV (a Winnie coach) DW suggested we decorate with a theme. She found a dinnerware set with road runners and thought that would be perfect for our future retirement travel plans but no one makes much roadrunner "stuff". All she could find was a small plush roadrunner. So we went what's readily and overly available: Flamingo. Recall my family disorder? I mean it, we went Flamingo. We did stop short of repainting the coach pink but once inside the door it's Flamingo Heaven. Or Hell depending on your perspective. They're everywhere. Plush toys sitting and hanging, bedding, towels, floor mats...you name it, if it's flamingo we've got it. You can't even shower or reign from the throne without a flamingo staring at you.

RE: I've Rediscovered Butter

Yup. +30 years DW and I had our own spreads. She used one of those tub-oleo brands, I used butter sticks, and she was constantly ragging me about how much fat butter was and how unhealthy anything fat was. Then she heard someplace that oleo was neither healthy nor plant-based, that it was a form of plastic (I never bothered to enquire). Now it's the real thing.

RE: refrigerator door prop

we throw a towel in each door. This ^ We loop a dish towel over the bottom rack on the freezer door, plenty long enough to keep top & bottom doors open a bit.

RE: 50 amp cord storage ideas?

When we had our 5er I just sort of piled it in the pickup bed. Mostly for the convenience, partly because of age-declining strength. Too stiff and heavy to try coiling and squeezing it into the tunnel.

RE: Should I connect my sewer line when camping?

BIG dittos!: I always connect and leave the hose on because if we have sewer we are staying for a few days. Gray tank always open with a p-trap bend in the hose to prevent gas back flow. I want to shower like a homeowner and not a sailor when possible. Black tank has to remain closed until ready to dump. A dry/empty black tank will never evacuate solids properly and it will all just sit there and stink like an outhouse. You need to have it 1/4 full minimum with water at all times to let the solids submerge, keep the odor down and not get rock hard. Dump when full, add water and repeat.

RE: Air Conditioning how many do not use it.

Couldn't pass up a comment after seeing subject line. As Gabby would've said, darned tootin' we use ours - both of them. Mostly camp SW OK & N TX, summer temps in 100s, we're so soft we couldn't do it without. Nighttime generally cool enough without the sun beating down we can run the front AC low.

RE: ? 12-Inch Female-Female Hose - What For?

OP here. Thanks all. I guess it'll remain one of the unsolved mysteries of my life. Didn't get it for a hose reel, don't have, need, or want one. Blackwater tank flusher hookup is female. Same for the freshwater connection. Don't have, never had, a wastewater tote. The water filter we use has male-female connections, ensuring correct flow direction. Washer hookup that short and female-female? Never saw one. Home washer hoses both male-female. I guess I'll throw it out. Sure thing that within an hour after they empty the dumpster I'll have a critical need for it!
