RE: Is Desert Riding Season here yet?

Heading to Teagle Wash this weekend, son's birthday, camping on pipeline. Viewfinders flag will be flying. Checker's race at Charlies Place Saturday but we're not racing. It should be perfect out there this weekend. Have fun. We're putting together a couple trips a few weeks from now. I think we'll be out there the weekends before and after Veterans Day. Instead of going back and forth, I'll probably just stay out there for the week and work remotely from the trailer. I'll probably head close to the hills overlooking Ridgecrest (right across from Wagon Wheel) to get a good data connection on the hotspot.

LOL Dave, I gotcha now. I swear all the locals bar have a cranky barmaid - A former cranky barmaid works for me, heart of gold but a big side of attitude if you come at her wrong ;) Maybe you look like a narc too. :B

RE: Is Desert Riding Season here yet?

They have pretty epic burritos at The Joint if you ask nicely. I'm almost afraid to ask, what type of burritos you get if you don't ask nicely? Day old Taco Bell? ;) There's a cranky barmaid there who you have to BEG for a stinking burrito. "We aren't a restaurant. We're a bar, and we don't serve food." "Then what do you use all those microwaves for and why is your freezer full of the burritos that I'm about to buy?" It's a fun destination for a night ride, but it's really a locals bar and it takes a while to gain their trust. Maybe we look like narcs.

RE: California bans almost all small internal combustion engines

There are a couple threads already in ATC. Closing this one.

RE: Is Desert Riding Season here yet?

It's here, just spent a great weekend in the Randsburg area. Nice. I'm having some mechanical issues, but we're on track for three trips in November in the same area. Where do you like to go near Randsburg? And do you ever ride into town for night rides? They have pretty epic burritos at The Joint if you ask nicely. It's a fun trip into town for dinner.

RE: What now??

I think this is everyone's worst nightmare, to work so hard towards our dream retirement and then lose the partner whom we've loved for so long and built the dream with. My heart goes out to you.

RE: Best route

It's a horrible trend nowadays. Maybe working remotely for 18 months has made us forget how to be civil with each other. I got excited for a second when I saw your response, because I saw you're from KY and could maybe lend a hand. Then I saw that it's YOU and you can't hardly lend yourself your own hand, I don't think. :) I bet somebody will chime in with something useful soon enough.

RE: Best route

I've deleted all the unkind and irrelevant responses. Yes, the OP could have provided a few more details, except for the fact that this is basically an 80 mile stretch where you either go through or around Cincinnati. There truly isn't room for much nuance in the question of "what's the best way to get from here to there?" Based on the locations of most of the responding members, I'm going to guess that most of you don't really know and didn't even read the choice of roads that were mentioned anyway. It's rare to get so many troll responses to a thread in Roads & Routes, but maybe this is another sign of the brave new world that we've found ourselves in. Please though, let's please keep the responses kind and on topic. And if you have nothing constructive to offer, then by all means please just keep scrolling. My own two-cents for the OP are that Google Maps shows a third option that kind of threads the needle through both of the routes that you mentioned. It's a smaller road, but it looks like a quick route. We didn't drive that route, but we've driven through a lot of those roads and we found them all to be pretty and pleasant drivers. Good luck on your trip. And maybe someone who's more interested in being helpful than looking smart (incorrectly so) will add their useful comments.

RE: Dec. 18, 2021 Johnson Valley Takeover THE POKER CHIP HUNT

That sounds like a blast. It's tough to squeeze in a riding trip so close to Christmas though.

RE: Ever hear of this camping company? Harvest Host

The posts that I've seen here have been overwhelmingly positive, but this thread is proof that it isn't for everyone.

When generators are outlawed, only outlaws will have generators.

RE: Flying J frustrations - Alternatives?

I just shake my head at what some think is a long rig and it won't fit into a lot of stations. When I'm pulling my bumper pull car hauler with my crew cab I'm 60' long. Somehow I always get in and out of stations just fine. There as been a time or two that I had to back up but I don't get all out of whack for having to do it. I also don't unhook to get fuel. But then again, although I don't buy fuel at them, many times I also stay in truck stops right in amongst the semis. I'm more concerned about the height of the canopies. I've had to back out of a few stations after filling up. There was one station in the Utah backroads where my AC units were a few inches taller than their lights. I pulled up to pump knowing that I'd be backing out when I was done. The poor attendant ran out and started yelling "Not again!!!!" At least we gave him something to talk about.

RE: Furion Glass Refrigerator shelves slide when traveling

Throw down some RV rubber shelf liner. Camco Slip Stop Liner - Prevents Slipping and Sliding in RVs & Camper Kitchen Shelves and Drawers | Great for Toolboxes, Rugs, & More |Durable, Washable Material | 1' x 12' Roll - Cream (43277) AMAZON $4.99 That's a good idea. A strip on each side under the glass where it bears on the support lip. Nother thought, Idk how far forward they slide, but a piece of pipe insulation to slip over the front edge before traveling. Like a bump stop. You beat me to it. I was going to suggest strips of a pool noodle across the front edge of any of the shelves that slide.

RE: Flying J frustrations - Alternatives?

Obviously the point is that if you try hard enough, you can take a relatively simple task and make it extremely cumbersome. I'm embarrassed to admit that I can't understand what you're saying unless you include at least twelve paragraphs. ;)

RE: Question about freshwater tank use

This is an interesting discussion. I'm always surprised when I see people talk about not using systems in their RV. "We never use the shower or toilet and just use the bath house" or now "We never plan to use our fresh tank". It's an interesting illustration of the different opinions & habits out there. We mostly boondock, so the idea of not using the fresh water, shower, or toilet doesn't compute with me. Plus we end up using the toilet at just about every fuel/lunch stop. So my thought when I saw "Question about freshwater tank use", my initial reaction was: "Use it." Ironically, the only time I (or anyone I know) has ever gotten sick from their fresh water was when I was a kid and we were heading down to Baja in our TC. My dad had sanitized the tank with bleach, but he must not have flushed the lines or hadn't drained the tank as well as he thought. I was the first one to drink from the tank and got a Dixie cup of diluted bleach. We had to pull over after I barfed it up. It could have been a lot worse. Call me unsanitary, but all we've ever done is fill and drain our tanks. I've never sanitized the fresh tanks in any of our RVs. We're lucky to be four-season campers though, and we've never winterized.

RE: Needless kaos and carnage on the Beeline highway...

Chaos? Were they driving or pulling RV's? Trying to understand the correlation to the forum. This is not a real question......right?.....can't be serious......can it? Somebody introduce this guy to Captain Obvious.....PLEASE! I think the point has been made (more than once now). Let's please move along.

RE: Plans for winter camping?

This time of year is opening season for us to resume desert camping and off-roading. Hopefully we get some rain this year to revitalize the deserts. We had zero wildflowers last year, but the year before was the best in memory.

One was a forest, are you upset because there was too many trees in the forest or it wasn't all paved. Ouch.
