Making my onboard generator quieter

Here's a good project that reduced the sound output on my onboard generator. Part number is of the resonator is 155-2449. I had a local car exhaust shop do the welding. Resonator sound comparison

RE: Tankless Hot Water Heater (Gas)

In an RV there is little need for unlimited hot water. Unless you have a family and everyone needs to shower in a short period of time. Tankless water heater info More tankless water heater info

RE: Tailgate for a truck camper

I’ll have to call shenanigans on this. There was a typo in my post. I fixed it. Yep, I have seen bent tailgates from long term usage of hauling stuff that rests on the tailgate.

RE: Keeping fridge door open while in storage

All the RV fridges that I have seen have a lock that holds the door ajar and locked into that position. Check the manual. Ditto. Mine had issues staying locked open until I fixed the problem as shown in this video on a Norcold Fridge

RE: Solar Panel Mounts

On my 2020 AF 865 I used the AM Solar L foot rocker foot mounts. AM Solar has the best mounting system, I have ever seen for RV solar panels. I used their panels and mounts on my AF811 as shown in this video If I ever do another RV Solar project, I will not hesitate to user their mounts and panels again.

RE: Yellowing bathroom walls

I used white Plastidip on the exterior of my skylights to keep the sun from turning the wet bath yellow. It prevents the problem but doesn't fix already yellowed fiberglass.

RE: Tailgate for a truck camper

There are some exceptions to this. The 10 foot Alaskan Truck Campers are designed to be used in 8 foot beds with the tailgate down and supporting the last couple of feet. There's an exception to this exception. A lot of newer trucks have a tailgate that is not meant to be a weight carrying support. I've seen bent tailgates on shortbed trucks where people haul motorcycles where the rear wheel rests on the tailgate instead of the truck bed.

RE: Solar Panel Mounts

Just VHB tape, on a solid roof, will be stronger than a few #8 screws. VHB tape attached to rubber roof membrane, with the rubber roof membrane being glued to the underlayment of the roof is a horrible idea. On any rubber roof RV, the panels need screwed down to the wood under the rubber roof.

RE: Solar Panel Mounts

I can use the simple z mounts and have the same issue if I ever want to remove them. What "same issue" are you referring to?

RE: Protection/Maintenance Packages

Fluid Film is a decent protective coating for the non full size GM trucks, which don't have the wax coating on the frame. No problem using it in the underside of the body on any vehicle.

RE: Protection/Maintenance Packages

Upon recent arrival of a new truck (Sierra 2500HD), I opted to accept a Protection Package (paint and undercarriage) offered by the dealer. So, the question I have is: What product did they apply to the undercarriage of the vehicle? We all know that the sole purpose of those Protection Packages is to pad the dealer's profit margins. From a customer's perspective, they are a huge waste pf money in most cases. I've NEVER heard of anyone witnessing these supposed "paint protection coatings" being applied, so I often wonder if the whole thing is a big scam.

RE: truck camper sitting in a wet truck bed

The thin luan on the bottom of AF camper is held in place with small screws. Seal up the dimples made by the screws to keep water from penetrating the wood.

RE: Bedding in overhead beds in T/C

RE: Batteries and Inverter Installed

A Victron Smart Shunt or BMV-712 should be your next upgrade - they are a smart battery monitor because they monitor amp hours consumed. I've been using amp hour monitors since the 90s when they were invented. Here's the BMV-712 install I did in my previous RV

RE: The cat is out of the bag ! New Honda Generator !!

Anyone know of a generator that can be swapped in place of an in place Onan 4k relatively easily using preexisting wiring? Another Onan Cummins unit can be installed. That's what happened in my case - I took out the original loud Cummins Onan 2500 and replace it with the Cummins Onan 2500i inverter model, which is a lot quieter

RE: The cat is out of the bag ! New Honda Generator !!

With fuel injection it SHOULD meet CAFE and run well at altitude ! CAFE is not California Air Quality. Last I knew, California has what's called CARB (California Air Quality Board) CAFE home page CAFE is an eatery, or Corporate Average Fuel Economy, a standard auto manufacturers need to meet based on a set of rules from the EPA. RE: New Gear and Technology

The keyless entry lock I installed in 2020 is a very nice upgrade. Here's a video of it. Global Link is the OEM supplier of locks for a lot of RVs now. I also bought compartment door locks that match the entry lock, so everything is keyed alike. Last year I installed a 8" tablet to run the Victron Connect Bluetooth app which monitors/controls my inverter and BMV-712 Monitor Here's the process of installing and using it.

RE: 2013 duramax

Many years ago I had a Service Trailer Brake System message on my 2009 Silverado. A pressure transducer had failed. The local dealer fixed it under warranty.
