RE: Cost of RVing

My wife and I are heading out on June 20 for 3 or 4 months in our 26ft class C on an E-450 chassis no tow.. So let's "estimate" per day costs. Some days will be more some less. No breakdowns. $80 for gas. We do 175 to 225 miles per day 8 mpg. $45 per day for a campsite. $25 per day for food. Looks like $150 per day. If we are taking a few days off..... $45 for a campsite and 25 for food. Our food not restaurant bought...... This is the number I'm using right now, but gas is going through the roof, so is food. So who knows. When I get back in September I'll post the real numbers. Should be interesting.

Idaho/Montana Route 200

I'm thinking of taking a ride on Idaho Rt 200 from Sandpoint Idaho to Sun River Montana after working my way North on Idaho Rt 95. We should be in that area toward the end of August. It looks interesting. Just starting to piece my way back toward Seekonk Ma.from that general area. We'll be running our 26ft Class C. Interesting sights, cool campgrounds and side trips suggestions are appreciated.

RE: Memphis I-40 Bridge Closed

We're heading that way in mid June. Want to pick up US 412 at Columbia Tn then head west. We'll be traveling in our Jayco 26xd, 32 ft OAL with the bikes hanging off th rear. I checked out this Doreen-Hickman ferry that crosses the River at Hickman Ky. Looks like it will handle our RV ok. Might be an adventure to make our way there then on to US 412 after we cross??..Fortunately we aren't pressed for time. We'll see what things are like when we are approaching that area.

RE: Gasoline/Diesel Shortages

OP here. Yes a short lived post would be nice. DW and I are planning to leave home for 4 months and head west on June 20. I plan to make my way to I84 then I81, I40 I65 to Columbia TN then US route 412 west to Springer NM. Unfortunately this route looks like it might not work form the reports I'm seeing. So I sat down today and started checking out alternate routes that will hopefully avoid any hard hit areas. My thinking is to get to I80/I70 west and so on. This is what so great about this forum. If this thing happens to drag on (sound familiar) hopefully enough folks will chime in and we can get an idea what areas are favorable for travel. One way or another this is going to be an interesting trip!!!

Gasoline/Diesel Shortages

I thought it might be a help to our friends on the road to post locations where we have seen long gas lines or fuel stops shut down. Also advise on places near the effected areas that we know have fuel. I know this is a "fluid" situation and things can change quickly, but it might help to keep some fellow RV'ers from getting caught short. Right now in my area, near Providence RI, I haven't seen any shutdowns.

RE: Lights on a bicycle carrier

Thanks Guys. Picked up a couple of LED trailer lights and spent a couple of hours in my shop and made up a mount out of angle iron. Wired the lights up, painted and all's well. Thanks again.

Lights on a bicycle carrier

I bought a Swagman Dispatch to carry our 2 bicycles on our Jayco 26xd class C. I set it up today with the bikes on it for the first time. Checking the set up out it seemed that the stop/directional lights are block out a little. Not much but when standing on either side the opposite light is not really visible. So have any of you folks that carry bicycles installed a set of lights on the outside ends of the bike rack?

Slide Seal Conditioner that doesn't "stink"

Well I never had an RV with slide outs. Now I do. I mentioned to my lovely wife that I need to treat the slide seals. The response I received was along the line of "oh, well don't put something on that stinks"..... Now I have a small hobby machine shop and DW stays out of it because it stinks. So this is a clue. I have been looking at 3 (so far) slide seal conditioners. 3 in 1, Thetford, and 303. Now the Thetford had one review that said it "stinks" however I saw a can at the RV dealer and sprayed a little of the foam on the counter and took no exception. I know I can ask but then I would possibly end up with 3 or 4 perfectly fine conditioners that didn't pass the smell test. So if someone has been through this please let me know what you use. I'm only need a starting point. I was very hesitant about posting this but hey the only stupid question is the one that isn't asked.??

RE: Freezer door Gasket Post

Thanks 2112 this looks like it. I'll give it a try later today after I finish making up the lower refrigerator door hinge.

Freezer door Gasket Post

I have searched but I can't seem to find a post that mentioned putting cotton balls on the corners of the door gasket. I can't remember the rest of the process but I'd like to try it if I can get the rest of the instructions. The dealer has "adjusted" the freezer door 3 times and the thing is still leaking. Not that badly but will require defrosting every couple of weeks. I've done the "dollar bill" test and it seems ok. The thing is leaking about 6 inches in from the top hinge side. Seems to be about 3" that aren't sealing. As always thanks for your help.

RE: First time RVing. What should we consider? Insurance?

Great suggestions given. When you pick up your RV, stand away from the side and look at the distance from the back wheels to the end of the RV. When you take a corner or leave a tight area that tail swings way out and even though the rear wheels and most of the back of the RV has cleared the obstruction that last 3 or so feet is still swinging out.. example: you pull up to the gas pump. It's a bit tight so you are close to the pump which is on the drivers side. When you finish and are ready to leave you decide you want to turn to the right. If you turn to soon the tail will hit the pump or one of the guards as it swings out. Be sure you have enough room for that back end to clear before turning..saves a lot of trouble..

RE: Nexus Chassis noise

If you have a chance look up "65 MPH Drone and loud banging in cabover curved panel" on google. This post from the Jayco Owners Forum might be of some help to you. It offers some very useful information on the possible cause of this. It did help me to eliminate this annoying issue on my 2020 Jayco 26XD class C. The second half concerning the banging of course doesn't apply here. Read it through, it bounces around a bit.

RE: Best route from VA to Maine

Once you get on I84 take it to the Mass Pike I90 east to I495 North to I95 North, this is at the Ma/NH state line. Then I95 North to Maine, about 10 miles. The toll roads are I90 in Ma, I95 in NH and Maine. I84 through Hartford can be difficult but if you can hit it between 10am and 2pm it shouldn't be to bad. Saturday and of course Sunday are the best days just get out early, but the weekdays aren't usually to bad unless the DOT decides to shut down a lane or two...

RE: Conditions of I-81 thru PA

We were on I81 last June. I thought I'd try i81 south from Scranton. Bad decision. Rough tough road. We usually take Rt 209 south from Matamoras Pa to Tremont Pa. Longer but it's just easier. I don't know but I hope this helps. We too are headed toward Tennessee. Going to pick up US 412 out of Columbia Tn, with a stop in Nashville. If it dries out by then. So it looks like I81 south from Harrisburg..

Nashville Tn. in late June

On our way west we're thinking about stopping at Nashville TN for a couple of days. I checked out Campgroundreviews.com and there are quite a few very good campgrounds. I'm thinking of staying at the Nashville KOA on Music Valley Dr. mostly because it has a good rating , is close to downtown and has a shuttle service. We don't have a tow so we'll use either a shuttle, Uber or a taxis. Not being familiar with this city I'd rather not rent a car. Does anyone have a campground they really enjoyed while visiting there and would be able to fill our needs?

RE: Ground wires

Thanks for the input. I'll just bundle them up a bit so they aren't hanging all over the place, grease them up an let them be.

Ground wires

I have a bird's nest on ground wires under my 2020 Jayco 26xd class C. One of the many things I want to do is clean this mess up. Probably about 15, looks like #12 white wires coming out of the house to 2 bus bars that have 2 or 3 wires going to each terminal. The bus are anchored to the frame which I assumed is the grounding point. Anyway it's a mess. My question should I continue to use the bus bars with groups of wires going to one terminal or should I pick up a couple of multi point bus bars and use one wire to one terminal?? As always all advise is appreciated.
