RE: 2019–2022 CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC POSTINGS

Virus particles are much smaller than the "holes" in masks. The fact is that virus particles don't float around individually. There are vehicles to which they are attached - like water droplets, dust and other particles that are filtered to different degrees by masks. Thus there IS some protective basis for masking.
Ever watch the slow motion picture of a sneeze and the vapor distribution? That's where the distance factors come in. Does 6 feet or 10 feet separation completely protect you? No, but there is some protection in distancing.

RE: Illinois I-55 or I-57

I notice you're from Kalamazoo. If you are heading to Michigan, take I57. There is little difference between I57/I55 and I80 from I55 to I57 is TERRIBLE.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

I was wondering about you and the hurricane. Hope you all come out without too much damage.
We spent parts of several winters in Crystal River. It looks like the whole city is in zone A and headed for a major storm surge. We also loved Homosassa Wildlife State Park and are worried about the effects of the storm surge on their residents.

Age, breed and history suggests patellar luxation as a possibility.

RE: Around Chicago west to east?

There are construction projects going on I80 in NW Indiana. I'd avoid at any time until construction is finished. US 30 is a poor alternative unless you like stop and go and many stop lights.
US 24 is a reasonable alternative, but I don't know if construction is taking place now.

RE: VacuFlush problems

Had similar issues and I had to replace the vacuflush generator a few years ago. My rig is a 2008 Southwind also made by Fleetwood. It seems like the generator has a limited life span. Fleetwood did a good job placing the generator in a location that wasn't too bad to access. Other than being a messy job, it wasn't a major pain. I got parts quickly from a marine service center while we were in Gulf Shores, AL.
That part has the pump and accumulator tank and is attached by two hoses and hose clamps.

Sonic Boom

In light of the recent sad news about the plane crash near Washington DC and the scramble to intercept that plane by F15s, I saw several video clips of people reacting to the sonic boom made by the F15s.
I got to thinking that many people probably have not ever heard or experienced a sonic boom. Having grown up in the St. Louis, MO area where McDonnell Douglas was producing F4s during the 50s (probably testing) and 60s (entered into service in 61), I remember common, if not frequent sonic booms as the sped away from Lambert Field.
Just brought back memories.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Sorry you're getting those surprises from Zuzu, Burch. If it continues it would be good to rule out any infection, but that prolly wouldn't cause the pooping. Any changes or disruptions to the routine of the household? I'm sure Dr. Doug can chime in.
You nailed it, I got nothin to add.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

I have to remove a step to get to the batteries, so I don't check as often as I should. We tend to travel less and stay plugged in more so there is always a charge going to the battery. Don't know if the converter that charges the battery is a smart one that doesn't over charge the battery, but I've had real good luck with our set up.

Dan, glad to hear everything went well.
Burch, I've got to replace my batteries before our next outing. What brand did you get??
I have Trojan T-105s and they have gone about 8 years. They are pricey but have lasted well beyond "expiration date" expectations.

RE: New Working LGDs

The reservoir for heartworm is not just dogs. All canids are susceptible. Wolves, foxes, coyotes, raccoons, and some cats can also be hosts. This disease is endemic enough that if every dog was cleared there would still be a threat to our pets.

RE: New Working LGDs

When evaluating the risk of heartworm disease, it's important to use valid information. The following is a map compiled by the Heartworm Society.
The map is from 2019 (them most current available).
I've practiced in an endemic area where a dog would get heartworm if not on preventive medication. The only variable was when based on how long the animal was outside or exposed to mosquitoes.
The current heartworm preventative medications also treat/prevent most intestinal parasites as well. Because of the broad spectrum of benefits and the very low potential of side effects, my choice would be to administer preventative medications everywhere in the US.

Speaking of doing the work and upgrade projects...
There is a major power line project in progress just adjacent to to our subdivision. Northwest Indiana project
I hope these types of projects are happening elsewhere.

RE: Tough Week

So sorry for your loss. I have seen a few of these in my practice and my brother had a GSD that eventually died from degenerative myelopathy. It's difficult watching knowing that there is nothing that can be done other than giving love and support. I guess the only "blessing" is that there is usually no pain involved in the degeneration.

RE: Kitty crazy after neuter

It can take days to completely eliminate the med given. It's unusual to have lasting effects from the commonly used anesthetics. I'd give it a few more days before taking further action.
BTW, there are hormone levels that are reduced after a neuter, but I've never seen this type of behavior reported.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Several times we attended the Chicago boat & RV show at McCormick Place. I eventually found my knees didn't like the repeated up and down looking at the RVs and we found the RV we love so it's been years since we attended. They have split the show and now do the boat show in Jan and the RV show in Rosemont in Feb.
