Love the pics! We love that area and go as often as we can. This may be the year to do it again due to Covid19 and the low crowds.
Yeah I’d say now is the time to go back. I can’t wit to go back, I really enjoyed the Tetons.

Zion to Grand Tetons trip (part 2 )

We left Zion NP July 3rd for the Grand Tetons. This would be our longest drive of the trip (12 hours) I believe we got one of the last RV sites in Moran Wyoming at Fireside RV park since it was over the 4th of July - again luck was on our side since everything in Jackson was booked and a few other places we called. Fireside was recommended by another CG.
https://i.imgur.com/Oe3xELkl.jpg
This Campground has full and partial hooks, we got partial which was power and water. They did have free showers which was cool.

https://i.imgur.com/3gJkdgbl.jpg
Fireside is about 15 minutes to the Moran Junction Entrance on the east side of the Tetons it’s also about 45mins to Jackson and i believe something like 55 miles to the South entrance to Yellowstone. This area is more relaxed and further away from the crowds which was nice. It’s surrounded by Horse ranches which made it pretty cool because the girls would pet some of the horses at the fence.
Here’s a map of our route we planned out - Schwabacher Landing, Antelope Flats, Death Canyon Hike to Phelps lake and then took a cruise by Jenny lake over to string lake.
https://i.imgur.com/BHOqaIOl.png
Our first stop at Schwabacher to try and get a glimpse of the beavers and possibly some moose but we were a little late. Arriving around 9 when you should really be there at Sunrise.
https://i.imgur.com/ukDxH99l.jpg
Schwabacher has a nice easy trail that goes in to the woods about a mile
https://i.imgur.com/U39vzcAl.jpg
Our next stop was Antelope flats to see the Famous Moulton Barn
https://i.imgur.com/JKkqYJQl.jpg
Again not many people out as you can see we were the only ones there taking a pic at the barn
https://i.imgur.com/d2O6gFGl.jpg
Our next stop is Death canyon - As you enter the dirt road you have to drive about a mile in, it starts to look like it’s going to be tight to park but it opens up a bit and there’s plenty of room for a u turn at the end. :)
https://i.imgur.com/MJRxSOEl.jpg
The hike to this point which is the Phelps lake overlook is 1 mile - to get
To the lake I believe was another 1.5 miles. We opted to hike to the lake.
https://i.imgur.com/q5qNIxUl.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/BSKQNXdl.jpg
It’s a beautiful calm lake and ice cold water - jump in for a
Quick swim is what we have to do everytime we get to a body of water :)
https://i.imgur.com/dj9AYpKl.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/UsBdVs5l.jpg
On our way back
https://i.imgur.com/8WlyRHtl.jpg
Right after death canyon we drove around it hopes of seeing some moose or a grizzly bear. We ended up seeing a young grizzly the park rangers were trying to capture. They said he became to used to people and would just come right up to anyone .
https://i.imgur.com/JLOhAyJl.jpg
Pic of Jenny lake - we skipped this area as it was the most popular place in the Tetons. Everyone was taking the boat across and hiking to inspiration point.
https://i.imgur.com/44M2UhTl.jpg
We Also ended up skipping string lake as it was packed as well. By this time the girls were exhausted from the drive up here the day before and I think they were over hiking after Zion....haha! But Nicole loves hiking so I kinda planned this Whole road trip with a lot of hikes in it.
https://i.imgur.com/oz8DBa7l.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/1Uuyxbvl.jpg
And that’s how we spent our 4th of July in the Tetons. We only spent 1 day but we had a great time. Nicole made enchiladas when we got back and some kind of white cake and pudding with fresh strawberries, blueberries and black berries with whipped cream for desert. Me and the girls swear it was the best dinner we ever had lol!
When we left the Tetons on July 5th our plan was to stop at Leeks Marina to enjoy the views and eat Lunch from Leeks Marina Pizza but it’s was closed due to Covid, it was a sad day we had to eat sammiches :(
Our next stop is West Yellowstone.
Cheers!

RE: Toy Hauler for 2 SxSs

The cargo on this is 29’3” how can this not work? It also says the slide out is optional.

RE: Toy Hauler for 2 SxSs

Unfortunately none of the Genesis have the required cargo space, the garages are long enough but with all the slide outs, etc, they will not accommodate a 72" wide UTV
They make ratchet strap kits to suck up the suspension- that might be a
Solution for you. I know on some of the other off road forums a lot of people do it so they don’t have to buy new trailers.

Look into Genesis Supreme - I know they have some pretty big toy haulers. I believe you can fit a 4 seater and a two seater in one of them

RE: Our Zion National park trip

Your trip reports are always the best, eDUBz. Looks like you guys had a great time in ZNP. We'll be up there later this summer.
I'm looking forward to the rest of the chapters from your trip.
Thanks! Right now is the time to visit NPs - I really can’t believe how slow they were. I’m willing to bet they will start to get a little more crowded now that more and more people are getting tired of staying home. Have a fun trip. We are definitely going back to visit Utah considering the drive isn’t Bad at all.

timing is important in the desert.
It only felt much hotter because of the riding and hiking we ended up doing - wasn’t sure what we were getting into but it was sure nice to have that water there

Looks great, thanks for your trip report and photos, I always look forward to them.
We did a Zion, Coral Pink Dunes, Bryce, Paiute Trail trip with our family back in 2007, loved it. Except it was 105 degrees in Zion and about the same in Coral Pink.
Alway enjoy sharing with everyone here - can’t wait to get back to Utah and check out those places as well.

RE: Our Zion National park trip

We went thru Zion and Bryce today. Not too crowded at Zion but was sad to see the streams were dry.
Ah man that sucks it’s all dried up. The busiest part was the narrows, but the further we went in the less crowded it got.

Looks like an awesome trip. I laughed at your daughter putting her head down on her handlebars. Kids are always fining inventive ways to relax. :)
Yeah they are - but it’s her own fault, she knew we were heading out in the morning and this was around 9. She ends up staying up late gaming on her phone with friends.

Our Zion National park trip

((( We have 26 days of traveling to report so ’ll break them into sections )))
Our Cousin in Coeur D’Alene Idaho was getting married in July so instead of flying out we decided to make a road trip out of it since we have never been up there. Luck was on our side and the states were opening back up, just in time! Our plan was to leave home (from SoCal) July 1st and return Late July. We mapped out our route last minute (We started planning mid June) and now we just needed to secure Some Campground spots. Our first Destination we planned for was Zion NP - I ended scoring July 1st - July 3rd at Zion River resort in Virgin Utah which was about 15 miles or so to the entrance. I definitely recommend this CG, very clean, maintained and well stocked store plus the Virgin River flows right behind it. We didn’t want to spend just one day in Zion so we left June 30th so we can spend half the day on July first and a full day the 2nd. I did some research of BLM in the area and found Hurricane Cliffs. Hurricane cliffs has Designated camping spots and can be accessed off of HWY 9 & Sheep Bridge rd on the right hand side. This made it perfect for us because Zion river resort was only 5 miles away, If you want to visit Zion and not stay at a CG this is the place to be - it’s about 20 mins to the entrance and the views are spectacular.
https://i.imgur.com/t5kROaPl.jpg
We aren’t big Vegas fans and we never took our girls so we thought it will be cool to drive the Vegas strip so they can get a glimpse of it.
Hurricane cliffs for the night
https://i.imgur.com/8Rt8Ibal.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/HMLVzSul.jpg
The next day July 1st we checked into the CG got setup and then went to check out Zion to see how it’s operating without the shuttle service And take it easy so we can plan accordingly for the next day. We decided to take our lChinese folding bikes with us :) little did we know to access Zion canyon you can either walk it, bike it or pay a private shuttle service like $30-$45 per person. We ended up finding out that on June 30th they opened limited shuttle service for $1 and you had to book on NP website to secure your spot.
We ended up biking it 3 miles (BTW It is all up hill) up to the canyon overlook trial which ended being a brutal 2 mile hike with fast elevation gain in low 90s temp - Needless to say the girls were pissed! Haha!
The park was slow and not many people out - it was fantastic.

https://i.imgur.com/QWEy4TBl.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/kd7eQC2l.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/Q2WLKYpl.jpg
As soon as we got down to the river we all jumped in - it felt so good and refreshing!
https://i.imgur.com/1X2rSuHl.jpg
Now we knew what we were up against for the next day. We tried to get shuttle passes but it was sold out. I told the girls the bad news, if we wanted to walk the narrows We were going to work for it and ride our bikes the whole 7 miles up the canyon to the temple of sinawava!
We decided we have to get up early to get ahead of the sun and take advantage of all the Mountain shade. Waking teenage kids up In the morning is like pulling Teeth!!!!!
https://i.imgur.com/veJpNNQl.jpg
Every second of rest counts when your not a morning person lol
https://i.imgur.com/E46H2qcl.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/YwWq9j1l.jpg
After 7 miles of riding up hill we made it to the narrows.

https://i.imgur.com/RVOppM8l.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/dRj4dGtl.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/ffeiUFMl.jpg
We ended up hiking 3 miles into the narrows so all in all 14 miles of biking and 6 miles of walking - we were beat at then end of the day but it was well worth it.
We had a great First time At Zion and especially with minimal crowds.
Stay tuned for my next report - Wyomings Grand Tetons NP.
Cheers!

RE: Ready 2 hit the road again

Wow that looks like quite a road-trip, and a great time. My family and I have visited all of these locations over the years, and have many wonderful memories. The longest we have spent on the road in the RV is 3 weeks...so I respect your undertaking. Crowds should be smaller in some of those places, which will be nice. Looking forward to the reports...have fun.
Memories is the goal, my two teenage girls are growing up fast. This will be our 3rd time doing a 1 month road trip. :)

Ready 2 hit the road again

I missed this forum and all the great peeps - As some of you know we moved out of our toy hauler back back in November after full timing in it while building our home. Anyways, the RV cover is ready to be taken off to hit the road. Trailer is about 50 percent ready as we leave June 30th for the entire month of July. SoCal to Zion, Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, Coeur dAlene Idaho, Mt, Rainier, Seattle, crater lake, Easter sierras and back home. I’m looking forward to sharing our trip with everyone. If there’s anything we should see on our route please let me know, I’m all about taking side roads, detours and the long way home :) Thanks again to everyone on this forum who helped me and my family plan travels when we first started RVing back in 2012. Cheers!
