RE: Rasor OHV trip.

how large an "open" area is Razor? I know it connects to a lot of trails that are in limited use and then there's the Mojave Preserve where there are only a few cherry stem trails. You’re right about Mojave Preserve, we were trying to make a run to Kelso Depot and ended up tiring around because of the Mojave Preserve. If you have the Avenza Map app you can Download the OHV trials from CTUC. Here’s a screen shot of the map and general areas to ride in the Rasor OHV area https://i.imgur.com/FPo2Kijl.jpg https://i.imgur.com/mr6W0RMl.jpg If you head back towards Barstow through Afton Canyon the OHV trials open up big time. https://i.imgur.com/B5CpPZOl.jpg https://i.imgur.com/IgBGzIZl.jpg

RE: Hairline crack on tail end cap fix?

The only way to fix it is to V out the crack feather sand all around it with corse sand paper, apply fiberglass and resin feather and blend it all back in. Basically like body work but with fiberglass. Fill it in with a skin coat of putty sand prime and paint.

RE: Rasor OHV trip.

Great pics. Looks like an amazing trip. Did you see many cops on Saturday night / Sunday morning? A group of friends (used to be members here years ago) were camping out on Rasor and their group had gotten kind of bigger than they expected. Some friends of friends ended up getting out of hand and one of them pulled a gun and fired a bunch of shots when people complained about his loud music. I'm not too clear on the details, but he ended up threatening a teenage kid and someone else in the group shot and killed him. I've never seen anything like this in any of our camps. Terrifying. Oh dang, that’s just crazy! We didn’t camp near anyone, didn’t hear anything, thankfully.

Rasor OHV trip.

Hey everyone, it’s been awhile. We finally moved out of our toy hauler and into our new home. It’s only been 3 months out of the trailer but we decided to join our friends for a ride in the desert. This time we made our way out to Rasor OHV area which is located off HWY 15 between Barstow CA and Las Vegas Nevada. https://i.imgur.com/9lXF63Jl.jpg We set up camp a couple miles off the Hwy. https://i.imgur.com/3qkwQq5l.jpg Our first ride was out through Afton Canyon. This Canyon is beautiful with different types of structure, Layers and color. https://i.imgur.com/K1fLYo5l.jpg https://i.imgur.com/7AGsaiCl.jpg https://i.imgur.com/xp7EvK8l.jpg https://i.imgur.com/ErUFGbyl.jpg After going through aftoncanyon we came up on a River crossing that was just too deep for our side by sides to cross. We saw two jeeps with 35” tires and they were fully submerged. We headed back this time looking for a slot canyon that MPoulsen knew about. https://i.imgur.com/1Ka86cQl.jpg https://i.imgur.com/XpwwaHQl.jpg We found the canyon :) https://i.imgur.com/XLwuzuyl.jpg https://i.imgur.com/yAzzbdfl.jpg https://i.imgur.com/XEiF8wtl.jpg The canyon has rope that someone tied off - you can actually climb out of the canyon to the top. We only made it up two flights of rope :) https://i.imgur.com/fUZdsnvl.jpg After a little bit more riding around we ended the day and headed back to camp for a Fajitas cook out https://i.imgur.com/VV1vkZrl.jpg Day 2 The plan was to search for this giant megaphone that’s mounted on top of a rock pile. We pack our lunch and head out into the desert for more adventures. https://i.imgur.com/88am2TIl.jpg My daughter took the wheel while I enjoyed passenger seat. https://i.imgur.com/gup6qXzl.jpg Finding the megaphone wasn’t to bad. It sits atop of a rock pile which is a short hike up There’s lots of theories online about this but no one really knows the real reasoning behind it. One theory is a guy used to use as a drum, this may be true because there was a skin wrapped around it. https://i.imgur.com/KuWwibOl.jpg https://i.imgur.com/382KJrbl.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Ptb72Wfl.jpg From the megaphone our plan was to try and make run out to Kelso Depot which is a visitor center in the middle of the Mojave National preserve. The OHV route we took ended and became street legal Accessible only -so we decided to head back to camp. https://i.imgur.com/ELwQScyl.jpg https://i.imgur.com/0tsSZQUl.jpg It was a great trip with great friends and the weather was perfect. We can’t wait to come back to this area to explore some more.

RE: Southern Ca to Coeur d’Alene Idaho

I second the idea of two lane roads in central Id. There is so much to experience out here. If you're stuck with just a few days this way---I-15 in Montana up toward Dillon, check the map for the "Pioneer Mountain scenic byway." We did that loop last summer and it is truly pavement through the wilds. Nice CG's, a hot springs, 7800 ft elevation, starry nights, and wildlife. Few gas stations or food stores, but the miles aren't many, and well worth it. This is a 3 week trip. I’ll check it out that route, Thanks!

RE: Southern Ca to Coeur d’Alene Idaho

We hit up St.Anthony sand dunes then back tracked to the 26 to Jackson. You taking toys? Sounds fun, but No toys.

RE: Southern Ca to Coeur d’Alene Idaho

Sawtooth area and Salmon River, ID 75, 21, 55 to US95 are phenomenal areas. Way off the beaten path! Some of the best scenery, hiking, fishing, hot springs, etc. in the region. Craters of the Moon should not be missed! "Unique" barely starts the description! wow! Thanks for suggesting Craters of the Moon that place looks Awesome!

RE: Southern Ca to Coeur d’Alene Idaho

If it were me...I15 to Hwy93, to Hwy318, to Hwy93, then Hwy75 through the most scenic parts of Idaho, then north to Missoula and west on I90. Google Map link Thank you! We love to scenic rides.

RE: Southern Ca to Coeur d’Alene Idaho

Easiest but less scenic is I-15 to US 26 near Idaho Falls, ID then US 189 into Jackson, WY Good to know in case we change of plans and decide to spend more time in Yellow stone.

Southern Ca to Coeur d’Alene Idaho

Hello - we are planning a 3 week road trip late June from so cal to Coeur d’Alene Idaho. We want to stop at the Tetons National Park and Yellowstone. Looking for best route and campgrounds. We are towing a bumper pull 30’ toy hauler. We don’t want to come back the same way so looking for different routes and places to see.

RE: Hey Everyone! (((( Update ))))

Finally completed our home - it’s 2500 sq feet sitting on a lil less than an acre. We are absolutely excited. We literally roughed it and made a huge sacrifice to live in our 26’ toy hauler for 9 months while we were building our home. We added full rv hooks with 30 amp plugs on both sides of the house . https://i.imgur.com/YuvOdyTl.jpg Here is the rendering https://i.imgur.com/ndbMhC9l.jpg https://i.imgur.com/DIccJV7l.jpg https://i.imgur.com/b4jzSrQl.jpg

RE: Best forum

Couldn’t agree any more! While I don’t contribute as often as I use to I still monitor the conversations regularly. Over the years I have been able to speak my mind on numerous subjects, obtained tech help on many RV problems, and received lots of trip advise and suggestions. There isn’t a finer group of people on the internet anywhere. I wish all of you a great day and happy RVing. Hap Hey Hap - hope all is well, we are still thankful for all the help and knowledge you shared when we planned our eastern Sierra trip two years ago.
