RE: Virginia GCWR rules / commercial / travel trailer

We have hauled both horse trailers and enclosed car trailers through VA for 30+ years with a F-350 DRW and have never been stopped or weighed. I did weigh the enclosed once loaded with the truck just to see what it weighed and it was 22,000+. We have no weighted tags just permanent trailer tags and the truck is registered as a MPV, no weight limit. Every state is different.

RE: Hankook tires for DP

Yes. I can get them for about $340 each shipped to me BUT I checked my local guy and he will mount and balance with new valve stems for $2500 for all 6. I think I will go that route as I can sell my take offs for $600----Thats $1900 out of pocket. Yes

Hankook tires for DP

Pricing 22.5 tires for my 36ft Monaco DP and see several prefixes on their part numbers and was wondering what is for motor homes not dump trucks. Don't want any tire noise for one thing....Thanks

RE: 2021 Ford E-Series No V-10

I have a 2005 F350 6.0 diesel with about 165,000mi on it. First 2 years were a disaster. When warranty ran out at about 30,000mi I took it to one of those places that do performance work and had it "bullet proofed" to the tune of $3000. It has never missed a beat since then. I don't know what they do but it worked and I could never afford a new one at todays prices, if you could find one...Old V-10 is a proven good motor.

RE: Loose Grab Handle

I sure wouldn't want to trust any weight on something as discribed above. Nothing in the wall to support it is an accident waiting to happen.

RE: Sliding Storage Tray

I had a Winnebago Luxor 20+ years ago that had 3 of those sliding trays. Sold it and got a Monaco awhile back and no trays. You can buy them, not cheap but available and I intend to make the purchase. I don't remember the brand name.

RE: Back before cellphones

You all joke about that but I really did it. We didn't even have a car or a phone. Toys for Christmas?, if I was lucky I got a new pair of shoes from the Sears catalog. I just don't know how we lived like that looking at what I have today.

RE: The Home Depot is my new Amazon

I live in central NC and nothing out here but me, cows, and chickens. Nearest stop light is maybe 15mi away. I check local price, check on line, and then make a decision. A recent water pump was $200+ at Auto Zone and $37 on line delivered. Both made by the same manufacturer. Looking for a step motor for the DP and dealer wanted $200+ and it was $37 online delivered. I would like to shop local but they don't make it easy. Being a veteran I go to Lowes for the 10% discount on everything. It adds up.

RE: When to change oil

My F350 is used so little that the last time I changed it at 5000mi it had been over 2 years. Worries the dealer to death. It sits out there in the garage but I start it and let it run awhile every now and then.

RE: Back before cellphones

I recently found some post cards I had sent to parents 65 years ago. I was 15 and took off hitch hiking around the country. You could do that in the 1950s. Parents didn't have a phone so once in a while I sent a post card. Here I sit with an I-12 and wonder if anyone sends post cards anymore

RE: How to match light oak finish on replaced interior wood

Mine has REAL wood, no partical board etc. I put in a new TV and stained some wood I got at Lowes and it matches perfect...they have a veriaty of stains.

RE: I-95 rest area parking for RV

Got a couple of real nice ones down towards West Palm. I have had those lot attendants find me a spot before and never once have been asked to move on. I go down every year between Christmas and new years. My mess is 72+ ft long. Someone mentioned the turnpike or I-75 don't know what they are thinking about. I-95 is right here.

RE: 3 axle break controller issues

I have a 3 axel trailer and the factory controller on my F-350 works perfect. It also worked on my previous 3500 Chev. That set up you discribe sounds like a disaster waiting to happen....and now brake problems?

RE: East Coast Affiliates

I know that here in central NC there are several stations that have been removed. Fox, ABC, and at least 2 others

RE: Raleigh NC to Georgetown, KY

Never been the I-40 I-75 route but the one up I-40, 74, 77, 64, is a good ride and a pretty drive in the summer when everything is green. Several places in WV you can pull in and over night.

RE: Places to fill with fresh water and clever ways to fill ..

I don't dry camp but I also don't drink or cook with even my own home commercial water. I buy it in gallon jugs mostly from Wal Mart.

RE: Repo a Truck Camper???

Been in the repo business. Yes we can get it, with a roll back strap around it and winch it on the bed and down the road we go. Might take 5min at 3 in the am. Now you just added $4-500 to what you owe. Where we were they had to hold it 30 days and normally would auction it off. Those things sell for hardly anything. Now you have added storage and the auction cost to what you still owe after deducting what they recovered at the sale. Lender will come after you for awhile then sell it to a collection outfit. The bank 9 chances out of 10 will write the loss off. The collection outfit will hound you for the rest of your life. BUT if you have any assets and the amount is enough the bank will attach everything you have. Best way out is make the payments.

RE: Towing Disaster-AAA

My truck with 32ft trailer died at a stop light in rural SC years ago. Good Sam sent a baby tow truck that could do nothing. State trooper said he could get some one. Guy came with a big tow truck and a 3500 GMC with a hitch. Hooked up the truck and took it to the dealer and took the trailer with my race car inside to his lot where he handed me the keys and said bring it back when I got done racing. More to the story but I was thankful for a considerate tow truck owner.
