RE: I've Rediscovered Butter

"Real butter", from a farmer, without preservatives, will turn rancid if left out, and, in fact, will turn rancid if refrigerated, albeit after a longer period of time. Having grown up with "home made" butter I have seen it turn nasty. I wonder what people in the past did with fresh butter before refrigeration, or even milk for that matter? Just curious. :@ Some folks had spring houses, where they built a shed over a spring and stored butter, etc. in the coolness of either the building or the water itself. My grandparents stored the dairy products down in the well. If they had excess milk, they made cheese and aged it in the well, and later in a spring house. The key was they didn't leave raw dairy products laying around very long, but consumed them quickly.Exactly, my dad's parents had a spring house for storing stuff.

RE: Are other drivers killing your RV experience?

"Are other drivers killing your RV experience?" Never have, never will. It's all part of traveling.

RE: Bent Axle, or spindle welded on crooked?

You are correct about the spindle being one with the axle. Mine do not unbolt unfortunately. Lippert Components is the maker of the axle in question. I have sent them this same info, but not heard back yet. Funny, on Lipperts web site, they show 2000 lb axles and 3500 lb axles but no 2800 lb axles which is what the sticker on the axle says it is. Maybe they are actually 3500 lb axles but derated to 2800lb? They appear to have been custom made for KZ (parent company of Venture) See attached pics... Pic 1 Pic 2You're probably right about them derating the axles. They do that so the tires will meet the weight rating. It's most likely a standard 3500 lb. axle. They did the same thing on my Fuzion: derated 7000 lb. axle to 6800 lbs. so the tires, rated to 3400 lbs., could be installed. I assume that if they put 3500 lb. axles on your trailer, they would have to put tires rated to carry 3500 lbs.

RE: Toy Hauler Toy Selection

We just got a Spyder and it is an excellent choice for toodling around on. Much better choice than a sidecar or regular trike. And much fun too.

RE: RAWR Question?

Would be interesting to compare the diameter of axle tubes and the thickness of the material that they are composed of as wellOr maybe even the frames those axles are mounted on?

RE: Lots of Problems

You might check to make sure your pump is wired correctly. They will run backward if wired wrong, no fuel, and will pressurize the tank. Perhaps the PO tried to fix a problem and put it back together incorrectly. Just a thought.

RE: Why is that ....

It's just the nature of the beast. And a good thing too, how many forums would still be around if people were satisfied with one word answers? Thread drift keeps many forums alive, and lively too.

RE: Wood question

That old, probably not a good idea. They really soaked those things down with arsenic, and it's a heavy metal, so it's unlikely to have disappeared. I wouldn't do it.

RE: What 50 amp surge protector do you recommend, and why?

We have the Progressive Industries 50 Amp and are very satisfied with it. We had two SurgeGuard units before the PI and both failed, one pretty spectacularly. Water intrusion was their downfall. The PI has been going strong for about 3 years now.

RE: B&W Companion

Could be, but I would think either plated or stainless. Mine show no rust, so I was leaning toward stainless. But I don't know for sure. Either way, anti-seize should solve the problem

RE: B&W Companion

"To prevent galling make sure the bolts and nuts are different types of S/S." Very interesting, I didn't know that. Learn something new every day.

RE: B&W Companion

I've pulled my Companion out a few times and never had any issues with the bolts/nuts galling up. Stainless nuts/bolts do tend to gall up if not lubricated. Next time you take it apart, before you put it back together use some anti-seize on the U-bolts. Be sure to lower the torque settings about 10-15%.

"Tesla advertises the truck can go 500 miles on a full charge, with a full load, at highway speeds. The company is hoping to start producing the semi soon." Okay, I don't care what you think, that is funny.

RE: The trashing of our public lands.

Who really knows when the picture was taken? That isn't camping trash, that's just standard household trash. Me thinks there's some back story that isn't getting any print. And "a representative of New Mexico’s Lincoln National Forest", really? And Facebook isn't exactly know for it's rigorous stance on truth and straight talk.
