RE: Traveling Mass TurnPike from New York. ( mountains ?)

These are strange times. Never seen anything like it in my life. Travel is to be avoided, but I had to take a couple trips - one with camper. It was necessary. If you feel you have to go - go and be careful . Lets not be judgemental about other folks needs'. Just try to be helpful to each other.

RE: All this time on our hands

Wow , nice story about the antenna materials. I am going back and forth between doing stuff and not doing anything because of worry about the situation. I cleaned up my camper after it was used to pick up my Mother in law in FL. There was a little water in the over cab - but the good news is it came in from the side window - not the roof or running lights. Great news for me....Trying to stay focused on projects - there are a lot of them.

RE: Taking RV to FLA (west cost) to pick up mother in law

Update from OP-- All home - safe and sound. It was an un remarkable trip except for the current situation. Very grateful all are home and we had a camper ready to go when needed.

I got 2 things to add: 1. I can't believe I have not seen the word "spittle" in any of these posts. 2. I go some vocational background working with viruses. That Mr. Mexicowanderer is correct one everything he said about virus transmittal.

RE: Roof coatings.

Just wanted to suggest: Gotta make sure you got the right coating for the right roof base material. When applying Eternabond, I always round any corners. I believe it helps resist peeling up. Also if there is a forward facing edge of the Eternabond, sometimes I coat that forward facing edge with a urethane caulk. My roof is fiberglass but I covered the front and rear cap seams with Eternabond. .

RE: Battery Charging Problem ***UPDATE***

Just had to chime in here as I have the same model RV just 2003. I had to change my trombetta solenoid right after I got the RV. It was hard fitting into the area where the solenoid resides. Replaced it with a NAPA continuous duty unit which has worked fine for 4 -5 years. The magnatek converter has a built in dumb charger function which works ok but I want to upgrade it one day. Originally wanted to change to solid state isolator, but the solenoid works ok. PM me if you want to discuss details of the Mini 24v. I know some interesting stuff about its construction.....

RE: Taking RV to FLA (west cost) to pick up mother in law

Thanks for all the replies. The entire reason for going down to pick her up with the RV is so there will be no outside exposure at rest stops and the one overnight won't be in a hotel. No or absolute min. stops. Planning to get in and get out and get home as fast as possible. I can't be the only one in this situation, thinking this as the best use of the RV.

RE: Taking RV to FLA (west cost) to pick up mother in law

Lots of mean spirited posts here. I am not going down to Fla for the fun of it. My mother in law is 80 and with the way things are going if something happens to her we will not be able to go visit, or go advocate for her if any thing bad happens. Originally I thought the best place for her was in Fla, but with the way things are going not so any more. Believe me I am old and high risk also and the last thing I want to do is leave my home.....

Taking RV to FLA (west cost) to pick up mother in law

Howdy, I just was told we are going to Englewood Fla. tomorrow. Has any one else used their RV to move an older person up north - to keep out of hotels and rest areas... Just wondering what to expect out there....

RE: Outside shower!

If you have to cut a piece out of a panel to access the tubing, there are some spring loaded access panel covers available that don't look too bad.

RE: Here we go again yet another Trombetta "Big Boy" failure!

Been through this one each rv I have owned. Trombetta is worthless in my opinion. I suggest 2 possibilities. NAPA continuous duty solenoid. Need a good counter person to help look it up.... or how about a properly rated solid state isolator? no moving parts and they worked good for me.

RE: electric v manual awning??

I like my manual awning, now that it has new fabric. But I would like to mention, I worked on one of those slim line Fiamma awnings on a van conversion for a friend. I did not like the construction of it and it can not take any significant rain or wind. I was dissapointed because I like the way they look closed up on the vehicle and I wanted to replace my Dometic with one.. But not now after working on one.

RE: Black Ice Detectors

Thanks for all the good info and advice here. Probably going to get an outside thermometer and mount it low and inside under hood area. Also try very hard to avoid cold / ice situations.

RE: Coil on plug # 6 on Ford V10

Thanks for the suggestion. I will check that out. In looking at it today there is a weird gasket section sticking out of the block that the head does not cover. No leaking and its been that way for the 4 years I've owned it. Just looks like a design engineering error.

Black Ice Detectors

Howdy, any one have a black ice detector? I just had a 12 hr. ride in constant downpour , with temp hovering around 32 the entire time...It was a very nerve wracking ride......

Coil on plug # 6 on Ford V10

Had to change the coil and spark plug on cylinder # 6 to get rid of rough idle and stumble on acceleration. Many of the literature articles I read show #6 as going bad. Any one know why? one video suggested coolant leak into spark plug well but not the case with mine. Just wondering if there is an inherent problem with that particular coil / cylinder. Fortunately I don't have any of the spark plug blowing out issues which are known on that engine family.

RE: Overnight location - 1/2 way to FL from MA

TRIP Update; Just got home from a GREAT trip. Thanks to all who replied to my original request. Took 301 both ways and it was well worth it to get around DC area. Purchased the "RVovernight" app to find places to stay. Expensive for an APP but it made me feel a lot better about finding places. Stayed at Walmart on the way down in NC and one Crackerbarrel on the way home. Both quiet and well lit/safe. Thanks to the app. Best news of all - we rushed to get back to MA before the ice storm and made it but it was very heavy rain for 14 hours of driving. NO Water LEAKs. checked real good when we got home. Had to change one coil pack and spark plug in cyn. #6 because of rough idle and engine stumble (2003 ford v10). Thanks again to all ...

RE: Propane tank integrity test

Doug is correct. Believe him. It is crazy the problems / excuses I have gotten when going to refill my frame mounted tank. Lots of mis information out there.
