RE: Stealth Camping Tennessee

Yea, I really got a lot of good ideas from reading George's blog. He had sections on cooking, budgets, lots of technical stuff about RV's and also some life philosophy. He taught me about the real weakness in the corners of rv construction due to the moldings not being wide enough. He also had tragedy when he lost his son. I even wanted to meet up with him when he was in CA and I was going to be out there for business but it never happened. He always replied to my emails even when he got popular and many folks emailed with him. His last project of converting a rental truck to an rv was really interesting and he was doing a great job of it and using very high quality appliences. Just reminds me we all have limited time on this earth and we should make the best of it.

RE: Stealth Camping Tennessee

I too am a friend of Tioga George. I miss his blog. I had been following him since the beginning when he was in remission from cancer. He really knew a lot about campers and camping....Too bad about the laws not allowing camping in public spaces. Not surprised with the way the world is going. That new thing where you join a service that connects you to private folks that will allow you to dry camp on their land/driveway may be a good thing.

RE: Alternative to 4wd

Thanks for all the replies and shared experiences. I'll check out the Eaton unit. Might be enough of an improvement over my open diff.

Alternative to 4wd

Howdy, has any one installed a rear locker on their differential? I have a 02 Ford E350 with V10 and would like to install an electric locker to help free the vehicle when stuck in mud, wet grass, snow....... I have found that being such a heavy vehicle is no help in some situations. 4wd conversion I.E. Quigly.. is too expensive and would not be necessary. From driving a pick up with rear locker, I think that is the answer for me. Any product recommendations? Thank you

RE: Water fill connection fitting

1/2" plastic hose barb. (1/2 male pipe thread by 1/2" hose barb ) common, easy to obtain fitting. No need for 3d printing or anything more. Any home depot or hardware store will have it

RE: pocket knife

been carrying a pocket knife all my life. Many daily uses. Few years ago heard of a terrible story about a child who got their shoelaces caught in an escalator step. All I could think was know one around had a darn pocket knife to free the kid before they were seriously injured. For those who freak out about carrying a knife - its just a tool

RE: Nice Story about class C use

Thanks for all replies and shared stories. I'm just so happy and thankful we had so much good use and fun with the camper this summer. Especially that last move home where we were significantly loaded....Wish winter would not come this year...Next summer we will install an out door shower/washdown station from the outdoor shower lines (better design then Winnebago...) On board air compressor (110v) for air up of shocks, tires, other stuff and to run air tools. Solar cells (still deciding on portable outside or roof top mount.) and lastly change rear differential fluid.

Nice Story about class C use

Howdy, Just a quick story about how much use I have gotten out of my camper this past summer. 24 Foot Winnie Ford E350 V10 which we have had for 6 years. But this summer it was used for: My daughters wedding, where we stayed for 3 days on an apple orchard. Was the dressing room for a bunch of folks but we had a great meal with my new son inlaw and his Dad before the wedding which was a wonderful time. Then I removed the table and easy chair to make it into a moving van to move my Son home from College 12 hours away. Before that we rented a car trailer and towed home one of his cars. Camped at my other Daughters boyfriend's land on a river with great swimming. Just a bunch of great use and great memories made. All with excellent performance from the camper and all the appliances. All that work up front maintaining and fixing stuff paid off. Just my thoughts as I pump the pink stuff thru for the long winter..

RE: 4x4 Class C ?

I've always wanted 4wd and visited the Quigly website... But now I think I'd rather have a locking differential for the rear duals. I think that would be good enough to get out of stuck situations. Has any one explored that? I think there are locker assemblies for dual rear wheel axles.

RE: Time to move on

Nice forum here. I have enjoyed it for many many years....Some of the good folks are gone....But I still tune in occasionally . Don't give a rats -ss about negative comments or anything else I think is stupid. Just in it to learn and share knowledge and sometimes trip reports about stuff that happened to me....

RE: Coach battery bank not working

All good recommendations and discussion above. Just wanted to add, while not likely to be the specific situation here, the battery isolation solenoid can click but still not do it's job disconnecting/connecting. The magnet and plunger actuate but the contacts are worn and not working. Need to check this with a multimeter and 12vdc supply to actuate the solenoid.
