RE: best route, West to East?

I-70 thru Denver has the Eisenhower Tunnel climb and descent. I-80 has the EB climb over Donner Pass and the EB climb over Parley Summit east of Salt Lake City. all are very doable and there is a much easier bypass around Parley Summit. we headed back to Chicago from San Jose in August of '21 using I-80 in our 40' class A gasser towing our Jeep SUV. the EB climb up Donner Pass was a lot easier than the WB descent a few months earlier. the RV's cruise control actually held a steady speed going up. and the EB descent from the summit was a total non-event. but in hindsight I should've taken the I-15 bypass for Parley Summit. we made it to the top but at a crawl. a lot will depend on the weather, road conditions (construction delays, etc).what you're driving and your experience driving that vehicle. you might want to get a copy of the Mountain Driving Directory https://mountaindirectory.com/. I have that book and it seems that there are afew more grades to climb on 70 than 80. Thoughts are US50 to Fallon then 95 to 80.

RE: best route, West to East?

80 : From Salt Lake City to Rock Springs will be the most mountains you deal with on 80. More trucks on 80 and pretty boring ride - long stretches of barren countryside. I get nervous when fuel starts getting below a half tank. 70: Don't know how you will get from NorCal to 70 because it starts at I-15. Much more mountains from there until you get through Denver. THat is another PIA for me. Personally, I would run 80 even if it might be more boring and fewer potential fuel stops. leaving from Placerville, would do US-50 thru Nevada then 70.

RE: best route, West to East?

Headed to Illinois in July from NorCal and wondering which route would have the least grades to climb the Rockies, I-80 or I-70? where in Northern Ca. Placerville

RE: Rotten egg smell, again???

Maybe I'm an idiot but can't quite see how battery water level affects my water supply. It doesn’t. If you only get the smell when you run water then it has something to do with your water system. Or park water. See if it has odor coming out of the park faucet. I'm the only one out of 5 in our group that had the smell so not the park water. So must be my system. Yesterday, drained water heater, flushed it, lots of white crud came out, put in new anode rod. Sanitized fresh tanks, 1/4 cup bleach per 15 gals. Ran all taps to get solution thru entire system. So far no egg smell. Run more today then drain and flush again.

RE: Rotten egg smell, again???

We were at an RV park and no one else had the issue. I've changed my filters to no avail.

Rotten egg smell, again???

I read where it comes from the water heater, anode rod? So how do I get it on the cold water side when hooked up to city water?

Truckers.....flashing lights?

A long time ago, my Dad was a long haul trucker. I rode with him on many trips. Normal then was, when you are passing another truck, they would flash their headlights when it was clear to pull back in. Then you would flash your lights to thank them. Most of the time they would even do it for fivers. These days you rarely ever see them doing it anymore. I still do it and once in a while I'll get a flash back. What's up with them anymore?

Inverter wire size?

So new to this, I'm wanting to connect a 425 watt inverter in my rig. What would be the minimum wire size to use for the 12 volt connection?

RE: Brakes, dilemma.

Just to clarify things, I had all new brakes, from the backing plates out, installed at a local RV repair place. I've ordered a new DC current tester to check everything out. Just don't want the same thing happening to the new brakes.

Brakes, dilemma.

I just had to have all new brakes put on my trailer at about 13K miles. 3 of the 4 were metal to metal. Usually run the controller 5/6. Has anyone heard of a brake test using a compass? It says with the brakeaway pin in (no voltage to electromagnets) put a compass up to the hubs. Compass should point north. Pull the pin and compass should point to the brakes. Well, With the pin in, I have 3 that the compass is pointing to the brakes! For the heck of it, I ordered a new breakaway switch. What else could possibly be an issue?

RE: cold temps and water heater?

Not using it now but will end of next month. Forcast shows lows coming up to around 35 in the next few days. May just turn it on for a few days.

cold temps and water heater?

How cold and for how long before you think about draining your water heater? Been having temps in low 20's from sundown to sun up and getting concerned.
