RE: Will fifth wheel front hit truck back window?

Hi. This question applies to anyone with a 2008 or newer Canadian built Citation Supreme or Corsair Excella 5th wheel. These units have a rounded front and not a flat front. I have a Dodge Ram with a 6'4" box and a B & W Companion fixed (not slider) 5th wheel hitch mounted in the usual position between the wheel wells. Will the front of one of these 5th wheels hit the rear window of the truck on a hard turn? I'm thinking because of the rounded front of the 5th wheel I may be safe. Thanks I believe B&W shows 3" back, with the truck attachment in position 2, to be the farthest you can go, and should give you a little over 40" from the cab. You will still have to be careful backing, but many people use this setup.

RE: Leaving the RV World for a while

Good decision, support the kids in their activities as long as you can, and maybe a few years to rv before the grand kids come along. Then you can bring them with you in your new bunk house 5th wheel.

RE: Bit Off WAY more than we can chew...

Mobile RV tech is your best option. Do this for a big item, and get some good advice from him for other things while he's there.

RE: Let's talk generators - again.

Yes the red Stabilizer is worthless, only use the green marine type.

RE: Tires, again!

GY Endurance would be my choice.

RE: When do you throw in the towel?

You just spent a years worth of payments fixing it, sell it before something else breaks down. You don't want to put your family in a dangerous situation breaking down on the road.

RE: Good hitch for SB Ram/Momentum combo

Lippert builds the frames, and has stated in writing that they approve the Reese Goosebox pinbox. I would get the auto slider, even though hitching is a little narrow to align the hitch.

RE: Service, landing gear down, or while still hooked to truck?

Thanks for the replies! I plan to rebuild my wheel wells to make them more water proof. I try to avoid towing in the rain, as the nylon Darco covering has a few holes, with fiber insulation above, and then floor above that. I plan to use 2" extruded closed cell foam insulation, a layer of foil faced bubble water proof insulation, and cover all with 4mm coroplast. This project will take a while, as I have other daily obligations that take me off the job. It would be nice to not tie up the truck, being connected for 3-5 days, but seems others feel like me...best to leave connected, landing gear up. Any other thoughts/replies appreciated, Jerry Jerry, I have to do the same thing, my new FW just has the black tarp looking material in the wheel wells, what a stupid thing for manufacturers to do. I'm thinking of using the pvc material sheets at Lowes for bathrooms on mine.

RE: Dometic refrigerator shuts off during the night on 50 amp

Good deal, I was worried yours might be the one that was recalled for a fire hazard.

RE: Looking to upgrade to a fifth wheel.

Subtract your rear empty weight from 6000lbs, or from your rear tires max load rating, and use the lesser amount for max rear loading.

Dometic recall I don't know if this relates to yours or not.

RE: Lippert auto leveling question

Thanks everyone. I hear what you’re all saying, but my question is more conceptual. With the unit unhitched and supported by the landing gear, how does the lippert system level the camper without bending or breaking the landing gear? I’m not grasping how it can pitch the rig forward without causing damage. There is no pitching forward, the landing gear, and two rear jacks go up, or down to level the unit. and have a limit to the length they can go out. Sometimes blocks are needed to help in the process.

RE: Lippert auto leveling question

You probably have the Lippert Ground Control 3.0, so look it up on youtube, and there are many videos.

RE: No Propane Flow to RV Appliances

The chemical Mercaptan is added to natural gas, and propane, and when changing tanks, and fittings, the scent gets on things and smells for long time. I recently thought I had a gas leak at home, but the gas company had a major repair down the road, and put too much Mercaptan back in the line, and it took a few weeks to go away in the house.

RE: broken springs

Mine are 4 leaf 2800#, and wheel well only has 2" clearance, so thinking of getting 6 leaf 3000 or 3500# . I called Lippert, and they are ok with going up one size.
