RE: Looking into a 2017 Grand Design

I had a 2017 Reflecrion 307MKS and currently have a 2019 Solitude S-Class 2930RL. The only issue I had with the Reflection were leaky axle seals, a known LCI issue and was fixed under warranty. The Solitude is a different story and rather than go into the gory details, I will say this, IMO, a manufacturer is only as good as the servicing dealers who represent them.

RE: Getting 5th wheel front cap clean without access to a hose

If I'm in a campground that does not allow washing, and the front cap is full of bugs, I use a foaming all survace cleaner. It might be labor intensive, but the foam softens up the bugs and crud and usually wipe off with a soft cloth. Meguires makes a wash/wax, it's not cheap and dosen't do as well on softening up the bugs. Between barley breaks, I can do the complete front cap in about an hour or two.

RE: Locks on Propane tanks?

Propane Compartment doors are NOT suppose to be locked (easy access to service valves if needed)Just about every fifth wheel has propane in the lockable front compartment or lockable side compartments. I see no reason for public access. I've owned a half dozen 5ers over the years and not one came with a lockable propane compartment. One could easily modify to a lock if they wanted to do so.

RE: Slides out / level

Unhooking and using slides at a Walmart is generally poor form. OP never said they were going to unhook.

RE: Saving Planned Trips

I finally gave up on the GS Trip Planner. My issues: 1. Cannot upload to a GS GPS 2. Cannot save a trip. 3. Only shows campgrounds on route. The old one you could see all campgrounds with a click. 4. Keeps randomly changing the route. 5. Limited to 25 stops. We purchased the RV Trip Wizard (annual subscription). So far the app and website are awesome. We have completely planned our 2020 Alaska trip and are ready to make reservations and key stops. Ken When using RV Trip Planner, were you able to upload your trip to your GPS? If so, what brand GPS do you use?

RE: Tripod stabilizer

If you have a rubber bushed pin box such as a Mor-Ryde, a tripod isn't much help, a non-bushed pin box works well, at least that has been my experience.

RE: Camco RV Wall Clock

Thanks everyone for your comments and options, very much appreciated. Sorry no one had the clock you asked about, but they all had their smart a$$ed comments.

RE: Virginia I -81 corrider gas tax.

Gas taxes are a never ending folly. EVERYBODY benefits from the road and highway system, but the burden to pay for them fall on those who actually drive on them. Since the Arab oil embargo of the 70's, our Government has increased CAFE standards on a continual basis. Using less gasoline is good for the environment, less gasoline sales=less tax collected=less road maintenance, and the cycle continues. Many locales are discussing a tax on mileage driven. There again, the burden of road repair will fall on only those who drive on them. I guess that's the price you pay to be part of a mobile society.

RE: Is Good Sam worth joining?

Like any other advocacy group, check it out to see if it offers what you want. IMO, it don't matter what others think.

RE: home resort

Bumpy is correct that is what is known as the 125 mile rule. You are not allowed to use your reciprocal membership within 125 air miles of your home. Your home is defined as the address on your drivers license. That 125 mile rule only applies to classic resorts and it is from your home resort, not home address.

RE: home resort

Coast to Coast isn't what it used to be. As Coast affiliates drop out, they are being replaced with Good Neighbor Parks where use of trip point are no longer allowed, plus one cannot make a reservation online with the Good Neighbor park. It is necessary to call the Good Neighbor park you wish to stay at, hope they answer the phone, if they do, you give them your membership number to get your "special discount" I much prefer making reservations online. I have some trip points to be used, and when they're gone, so am I.

RE: How many seconds to extend your slide(s)?

Wow...that is slooowwww! I will check mine, but 15 seconds sounds about right to me. You should plug into 240 while extending, and cut that time in half. :) Jerry Considering your slides work off your 12V system, if plugging into shore power helps, you probably have a weak battery. Mine operate the same speed, regardless.

RE: Campingworld Tallahassee

personally I am getting very tired of seeing posts about how horrible CW is. everyone knows about CW and if you are foolish enough to buy from them that's your problem. I haven't bought anything from them since the eighties and I don't plan on buying anything from them in the future Why do you continue to read these posts?

RE: Grand Design

They are like most everything built now. Ive owned two GD 5er's, they aren't any better or worse as far as construction techniques. Where GD excells is factory support. Buying an almost six year old trailer, I don't know how much factory gratuity remains. I would look for the usual things in any used trailer and make your decision accordingly.

RE: Boarder crossing insanity - CBP gone crazy...

A few years back, we entered Canada through Niagara Falls. We had a motorhome and a small pich-up in tow. Answered a few questions, showed ID, then was told to pull ahead as we would be met by border agents. Three met us, asked us to leave the bus and as one detained us, two went inside the bus. The chap with us was friendly and pleasant as you could hear the other two going through our drawers and cabinets. Afer about 15 minutes the two exited and we were told were free to go. Nobody inspected the outdoor baggage compartments nor looked inside the pickup. I asked if he was going to check the pick-up, "naw, you're good to go". Not sure what that was all about. Haven't been to Canada since.

RE: GS Trip planner

We used the old trip planner for years. I am really frustrated that GS took it away. The main reason we used it was to upload the trip to our GS GPS. That option is gone. As a result, we will just plan the trip on the GPS. I see no reason to use the new GS trip planner. Ken X2 Since the old trip planner is no longer available, I've been using RV Trip Wizard. It isn't free, however, there are far more choices of rv parks and even fuel stop choices. It is awkward at first, but I'm beginning to like it. They claim to be able to download to your GPS, but I've had no luck with my GS GPS. I'm not computer literate.
