RE: Membership card to e-Wallet

I received an email about adding my membership card to my e-wallet, but it doesn't seem to be working. Can you assist?
It works to Google wallet, but the web site doesn’t work for Apple

RE: Kalamazoo, MI to Gulf Shores, AL

Check your settings. The only way I can get google maps to give the US-41 option is I select "avoid highways" option. Otherwise, it's between I-69 and US-31.
Might be set to avoid tolls. The bridge at Louisville on 65 is tolled.

RE: Kalamazoo, MI to Gulf Shores, AL

You don’t want any part of 41. Traffic lights are common. I see no reason not to do 69 to 65 or just 69 to 24. Minor discontinuity of 69 at Indy, and again at Evansville/Henderson, KY, but no big deal.
Taking 31 south to Indy would be better than 41 by a long shot.
If you do choose 69, blow the horn at me just after exit 87.

RE: Feedback on $50 Onan carbs on Amazon?

This is why a certain Country owns us, people are happy to buy the CHEAP option over and over again.
I am sure you have looked into re building the carb?
I had two different Stihl pros rebuild my carb three times. No improvement. A $15 Chinese carburetor fixed it immediately after spending more than $200 trying to get it fixed. You’d have to be an idiot to throw more money at a losing proposition.

RE: Feedback on $50 Onan carbs on Amazon?

I gave in several years ago and went with the cheap carbs. I’ve been amazed. Had a saw that had been serviced at a dealer three times that just wouldn’t run right. 5 years running great with a $15 carb. I’ve replaced one on a tiller and one on a big water pump with no problems.

RE: Smoked Chuck Roast

The result was probably very similar to brisket on a smaller scale. Good food!

Often a direct call to the campground can get a one night booking even if the web says otherwise.

RE: Problem with a 6 year old Dometic frig

Friend of mine has a class C with a Dometic frig not working. We did some investigating yesterday, and found the following:
Propane flame works when in that mode
Electric heat works when in that mode
Frig temperature doesn't change in either mode and stays constantly at 51
My conclusion is the frig is broke and needs a new cooling unit, or am I missing something?
BTW, my suggestion to him was to install a residential unit instead.
Outdoor temperature? Freezer temperature? Have you checked the cooling fans in the back?

RE: Dicor sealant on my fifth wheel

https://getairtite.com/
Encloses the whole tube. Air leaks in from the plunger end too. I’ve only been using it for two seasons, but it either works that long or I got really lucky. Cheaper than a tube of sealant, so I’m already ahead.

RE: Washington DC Advice Needed

Alexandria isn’t bad. We’ve gotten reasonably priced hotels. Easy parking at the Metro station. Decent places to eat nearby.
Mt. Vernon isn’t far.
Did the same thing you are planning. Metro in and out is very convenient.

RE: Electric brakes

I would suggest you go back and solder those wires and shrink wrap.
Actually, crimp connectors with heat-shrink sleeves is the preferred method of connecting wires where vibration is present.
Since solder creates a stiff section in the stranded wire, the wire tends to break right next to the solder joint.
Solder connections on wires in vehicles are just not reliable. You might notice that there are no solder connection on cars: they're all crimp connections. In fact on aircraft, solder connections are completely forbidden.
Solder connections aren’t even uncommon on military aircraft. The key is a mechanical connection to keep the soldered wire from moving. With the amount of loose wire on a brake connection, you’ll never have a hint of a problem soldering.

RE: Electric brakes

Raise one side off the ground and spin a wheel. Have somebody pull the breakaway cable. Repeat with the other axle and other side. If the brakes work that way, you’ve eliminated a good chunk of wiring as the problem. If they don’t, you can be pretty sure the problem is between the junction box and axles.

RE: Mattresses, what’s your recommendation and why?

Maybe I’m an oddity, but I get a chuckle out of people worrying about mattresses. I can sleep on carpet covered concrete. I’ve had a good nap on a gravel driveway with my jacket as a pillow. Hiked many hundreds of miles sleeping at night on a tiny little thin mattress. Never slept better than on a 1-1/2” self-inflating mattress in a tent even at 60 years-old.

4-way wrenches are often too large to fit in the hole in the rim on modern aluminum wheels.

RE: Dometic not cooling

Usually a bad thermistor overcools. Heavy frost sounds like a door not sealing.
