RE: rebuild of outside kitchen door

thanks @barneys. After looking at it more, seems like its aluminum. I may be able to drill out the rivets and reuse it. I am hesitant to do anything right now because we still have several camping trips planned. As for going to an RV dealer...they always just want to sell me a new camper. I really prefer to find my parts online, and they are much cheaper. I just cant figure out what its called. Also, it seems that since its aluminum it may be bent at the factory.

RE: Poop in outside sink

Little update here...got everything fixed up and also installed a metal tail-piece so they can't get into my trap again. I see all the messages about sinks tied to the black water tank and it was odd to me as well but now that I know, I followed another's post that indicated they turn the outside sink on before pulling out to put more water in the black water tank. I used to sit there with my foot on the toilet supply to add water...SO MUCH EASIER NOW. As indicated, the more water in the black water tank...much easier to get a clean dump! Thanks for everyone's post here!

rebuild of outside kitchen door

I am having an issue with my outside kitchen hatch/door. It seems that the seal around the the actual door, not the opening, has let water seep into the wood core of the door. I am pretty handy so I want to replace the door. The gas struts have already pulled out of the door, so I put metal plates on to try and "fix" it however now the door is bulging on the other side...well let me get to my question: Where can I find the plastic edging that I would put on the wood of the door once its rebuilt? My searches are not returning what I need. Maybe I just don't know what its called. I believe I can separate the fiberglass as it looks like it is nearly entirely de-laminated from the wood anyway. I am really not too concerned about the interior. I can get something from the local big home improvement stores that I can cover it with. I would rather do it myself as I have several camping trips already planned and any rv shop will take weeks if not months. I can attach a pic if you're not following what I am poorly explaining. Any help is greatly appreciated.

RE: Poop in outside sink

@bgum thanks! I also thought of that as well. I think I am going to do that as well. I have used the rubber seals with washers and a wing nut in the past to seal off lines. I am going to look for one of those to do the same here. I ordered a steel tail piece replacement. I will take that to the hardware store to size the appropriate seal. Thanks for the advice.

RE: Poop in outside sink

Also...I was totally unaware of plumbing a sink to black water tank as well however after much research, its quite common and beneficial. I will be using the trick of filling the tank with the outside sink going forward before dumping.

RE: Poop in outside sink

I am positive it is black water, trust me...the things I have seen cannot be unseen. So I tore apart the sink last evening and it appears that a mouse decided to chew the catch in the sink tail piece to get into the pipe. Then it decided to chew the internals of the waterless drain which cause my issues. I really like the suggestion to put in a ball valve. That is a great idea. The only issue is that I do not have enough room to have the waterless trap and ball valve installed. It would be one or the other for me.

Poop in outside sink

I have a 2015 Keystone Laredo with an outside sink. I have owned the rig for 3 years. I took it out for the first trip of the season and after towing it seems that I am getting black water tank contents coming into the outside kitchen sink. I understand its fairly common for there to be a sink plumbed to the black water tank. My thought is that my waterless trap has gone bad and is allowing black water to come back into the sink. Luckily it has remained in the sink and not come out all over the kitchen. It makes for a pretty terrible smell in the camper when we get to our destination. I have also now noticed a foul smell coming from the sink even when not in tow. Is this a common failure? Any recommendations on a better waterless trap?
