RE: Looking into a 2017 Grand Design

Busdriver, Nebraska Furniture Mart. Probably a local furniture store. We have bought Flexsteel and Triumph ( makers of quality motorcycle seats). Both manufactures have 60-65" love seats that fit in place of OEM love seats in RV's and are power recline. Backs come off for easy loading and zero wall clearance or very close to it. We have used both and they work extremely well in RV's. Your local furniture store should have them and a little scuff on the back or side will never be seen for a clearance. We have bought them for $399 & $499. Sometimes we have had to watch for a couple weeks to find what we want but well worth the wait.

RE: Looking into a 2017 Grand Design

We have a 2016 GD 5th 303rls and could not be happier. It has been a great rv. Our prior was a Keystone Outback Sydney edition 5th and we enjoyed it but had quite a few problems with it. Electrical mainly and some plumbing. The GD Reflection has not had any problems other than the theater seating love seat started to peel. A quick trip to NFS and we replaced it with an electric reclining love seat from the clearance store for $499 much cheaper and better quality than RV furniture.

RE: Recommendations for 30 -32 ft 5th wheel

We got a 2016 GD 303rls about a year ago and could not be happier. No trouble at all and we really like the layout. Head and shoulders above our Keystone Outback Sydney Ed.

RE: Storage compartment door repair or replacement

I have 2 new ones that if they are the correct size I would sell very cheap. They are just taking up space in my garage. I bought them for a Keystone and we sold it before I put them on. PM me if you are interested.

RE: Black Hills in October

We really liked Custers Gulch. Great people and very nice clean park. Be aware that a snow is a good possibility that time of year. A big blizzard hit there in October a few years ago.

RE: Keystone Outback tire wear

We had a Keystone Outback 28rls and when we bought it used it had brand new tires on it. I thought WOW this is great, shouldn't need tires for several years. One year later they had both tires on the drivers side wore out on the insides. After a few measurements I realized why it had new tires on it. Both axles were bent. I replaced both axles with heavier ones and had no more problems after that. I think the original axles were so borderline that a pot hole or curb hit would easily bend them.

RE: Replacing fake leather sofa sleeper

Cavie, You are right on the money! We had the same thing going on with the fake leather in ours too. We went to Nebraska Furniture Mart and went to the clearance area. Found a Flexsteel power reclining in REAL leather for $399 (regular $1500) and the backs remove. Went in the 5th wheel slick as a whistle. Only had a couple mars on the back that were very minor Zero clearance recline so it works perfect and is very good quality unlike the RV bunk it replaced.

RE: need title

My hunting 5th wheel is a 1987 Coachman and it had a lost title when I bought it. I had to take it to be inspected by the Kansas Highway patrol to match the bill of sale ID numbers to the trailer and a brief statement from the seller saying the title was lost. Then I could apply for a title, which I did. Very easy to do and I received a title. Each state maybe different so you need to check your states requirements. Very easy to do.

RE: Rafter J-Bar / Custer / Rushmore

The other negative is some of the businesses adjust their prices during bike week and get a premium for their products. Sad that they do this but, we were warned by locals to get what supplies we needed the week before if possible.

RE: 2nd AC unit worth it?

We have a 33' Reflection 303rls with 2 air units. The second unit is very nice when you pull into a camp site and it is 95* and everything in the unit is hot. We turn both on at first and it really cools down quick. After the initial cool down one unit works great even in the mid 90's. When sleeping running only the living area AC is very quiet and the ducted AC keeps the bedroom just right.

RE: Shrimp Tortellini Alfredo

As I set here in a food coma, kicked back in the recliner I have to comment. I showed the Shrimp Tortellini Alfredo recipe to my wife a couple days ago and she said we had to try this. She altered the recipe slightly and add more cream cheese (7 0z package), added a little garlic salt and used Half and Half and it was fabulous. There was more than enough for two meals for us (love those leftovers). Thanks so much for telling us about this wonderful meal.

RE: Winging it on your travels

We hardly ever book places with a certain date when traveling. My wife waits till we know how far we will get and 1-2 hours before we stop she calls and always finds us a spot. Our final destination we always have booked for the length of stay way in advance. If we happen to reach that destination a day or two early we have never been turned down although, it may be in a different spot than our longer term stay spot. It is only as hard as you make it.

RE: Hard for us to get past Grand Design

We went from a Keystone to a Grand Design and are very pleased. The GD is easier to heat and cool and to us is a lot better built.

RE: Question re axle replacement

I had to replace both axles on our last 5th wheel due to bent axles and terrible tire wear because of that. As said above most of the axles are borderline as being sized right and when loaded just hitting a curb or chuck hole will bend them. If the cost of the replacement axles is on the manufacturer and not you I'd have them replaced with a heavier axle if possible. The ones I replaced had a rating that was significantly higher than the original axles.

RE: Florida State Park booking

Topsail was putting in some new sites when we were there this winter and Grayton was reworking some sites and had that section shutdown as you drove in the park.

RE: Repairing the cargo door

I have 2 new cargo doors w/ frames I ordered for my Keystone Outback just before we sold it. If you PM me I'll give you the dimensions of them if your interested. Never got to put them on.

RE: Florida State Park booking

My wife seems to always find cancelations even a month out in the winter. They aren't always for the duration we want and sometimes we have to change spots but, she still finds something.

RE: Would you go with 2nd AC?

We have 2 in our 303rls. When it is really hot we run both to cool everything down then before bed we only run the down stairs unit. It is ducted to the bedroom and is very quiet that way and plenty cool for us.

RE: Roof vent lid gone... how did this happen?

I had a roof vent strip the rack gears on it coming back from South Dakota in a driving rain (6" rain). It was also over the bed. I stripped the bed and the memory foam topper. I think the topper weight at least 150# and I threw it in the shower till I got home the next day. Then I replaced the vent, so anything can happen. After that I put vent covers on both vents so it could never happen again. I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would have. Both 5th wheels we bought after that one the first thing I have done is put on covers if they didn't have them.
