RE: intermittent brakes

Replace all the splices, wiring never fails in the middle, always at the connections. I have checked everything visible and I can't see anything that looks like it would be a problem. I have heard of insulation wearing off inside the axles over time. It might not be my problem but I think that I will pull new wires thru and then I will know. We had that issue and it was 2" of bare wire in the axle tube. chevman

RE: 3.31 gears at 40,000 lbs gross.

When we tow up a mountain our truck wants to keep pulling but I feel better going to 4th gear and let the engine run more RPM's. not the same truck as the posts are telling about but have not had any driveline issues on any towing truck we have had. chevman

RE: SRW vs DRW

We only drive our dually in the winter seasons for 6 months a year when we tow to AZ and both of us cannot imagine us having a SRW truck. Missed the trip for the 2020 2021 seasons but going south again and will enjoying the fat rear end. chevman

RE: Rv-ers prefer Duramax?

Cummins12v98 your Ram would look a lot better with an Indian on the trailer.....just sayin. perhaps a Ducati? https://g1.img-dpreview.com/4976AE66DE574FF89D0DE16CB47AE078.jpg IMO one of the best sounding bikes made. Too much bike for my skill level though. I was thinking an old Honda 90 trailer bike would be safer for Ron. chevman

RE: Rv-ers prefer Duramax?

I want to get a better picture it was getting dark for this picture. Biggest issue is can we fill the large fridge without grinning from ear to ear. After 2 winters of Hospitals and nursing home we need to be very careful. Nice to be home this winter and it was the best in my 80 years for weather. Chevman. Thanks for posting the picture Ron

RE: Rv-ers prefer Duramax?

We just finished a week towing and our 05 has towed what we have great. Best truck we have had. 113K miles. Back in a fifth for the coming winter season again. chevman Post a new thread showing your new toy. I was privileged to pics already. ;) the fifth is getting DE winterized Tuesday and the seller will deliver it to our home. He is leaving his B&W hitch that fits a Ford puke system so that will be living beside the truck as the airhitch gets reinstalled in June. this 2019 Rockwood has a brand new look. I have not been able to make a picture on the forum for a long time but have tried . We will miss the alpenlite because it like our 05 truck "simple to operate" 80 year old folks like simple. I will try to send the picture. chevman

RE: 5th Wheel entry steps

What do you do?? My last 5er had the entry steps fold under the rig. So when stopping at a truck stop, rest area, cracker barrel etc. I would just leave the steps folded under the rig & use a step stool to get into the rig, then lift the step stool into the rig. Leaving nothing extended from the rig. Now my new 5th wheel has the steps that lift up into the door way. Do you leave the steps down, as they do extend away from the 5er. Don't want someone to pull in beside and hit the steps, but also if you put a rope on the steps & lift them up and into the door way, if someone pulls close to you, you can not get the steps down to exit the rig.. Not our favorite style of steps for the same thinking you have. chevman

RE: Why do you Cummins guys want more gears

Maybe we need to get started talking about what electric truck will be best? chevman

RE: Why do you Cummins guys want more gears

I don't care how many gears it has. I just want it to allow me to pull the trailer up hills and not break when I need it. If they need to make the gears a lighter weight more suseptable to breakage to get them all in he transmission, I'd prefer fewer heavier gears and reliability. I feel as you do but the important thing to me is have a truck that matches what it needs to tow. 5 gears works great for us. chevman

RE: Bedroom door

not enough information for me to understand door or flex in the frame. Guessing flex in the Lippert frame. Have installed doors of homes for many years and have had several rv's and no issues. Homes are different of course but a good quality fifthwheel can have the same pocket door hardware as a home can have but I didn't think I saw it was a pocket door on the post. Pictures would make it much easier to understand. chevman

RE: Anyone interested in 83 Pace Arrow Tear down and Rebuild?

I made 2 chest of drawers to hold items from the fifthwheel we sold. Easy for me to figure how to figure out the spacing. Made 3 the same and the bottom what was left because usually the drawers are larger on the bottom. The face fronts are made for the nice even space that shows. chevman

RE: I just got the new RV Magazine

I have read 3 issues so far and simply thumbed through 85% of the pages. Nothing pertains to an ordinary camper. I always try to keep politics out of camping, but since Marcus said that he did not need Trump voters support, the magazin has leaned left. It is like it is written for and by Liberal Yuppies that need help camping. I used to read every word of every issue and then take it to my favorite shops that had mags in the waiting room and I would watch people reach for it instead of SI or PEOPLE. Now, I am embarrassed to show it. I do not read it no and will not share it. SAD situation. I said the same as you have done. Very quickly my post was gone. Looked at the latest issue but only the pictures and in the trash it went. Most magazines are not worth the money anymore. chevman

RE: Extended warranty - best options?

I have lost money on any warranty for years. Bought a 2001 Alpenlite and a warranty for half price and still lost $400.00. chevman

RE: Torquing tire stud by hand

I look at it this way it is you money if you feel better doing it do it. Don't listen to no one but your self. I feel as you do it is my stuff and our money. I have wheel balancers on our 2021 TT and always balanced the G tires on our Alpenlite fifth chevman

RE: Rear Kitchen - good idea or bad idea?

We really liked our RK alpenlite it was perfect for our 19 winters in Az. Now we have a not so perfect TT for maybe our last winter season coming up. chevman

RE: Camping World Coburg Oregon OK ?

how about a mobil rv tech? they come to you, and wern,t flipping burgers last week. Dumb comment. What exactly is your background in the field of mechanics and what's required to work in a repair facility. How many are certified welders and have a background as electricians. Do you believe that just anyone can do service work on a chassis that was "flipping burgers" the day before. ever done a break job or service an engine before........ We have used mobile rv techs 3 times. Very great experience. When an rv tech drives up and has an awesome vehicle and starts to visit with you it will be a clue if he knows anything. chevman
