RE: Your Rig

Our new truck and trailer. What a difference from the 2004 versions! https://i.imgur.com/Kn0NDFa.jpg

RE: Camping in Rock Springs, Wy--Twin Falls Idaho--Bend Oregon

For some local small campgrounds near enough to Twin that are real gems, try Banbury Hot Springs or Sligars on Hwy 30 west of Twin Falls. Both have natural hot-spring fed pools that are amazing and the camping is really nice on the Snake river. They are worth the diversion.

RE: Biggish dog in pick up truck?

We had our two similar aged kids in the backseat of our 1999 Chevy 2500 HD extended cab: you know, the one with the assisted-suicide door for the back seating. Our Chesapeake Bay Retriever would sit on the seat between the kids. We never heard any complaints that the kids were encroaching on each other's space. Instead, we heard groans that the dog was crushing them. Much quieter drive! :^) We did upgrade to a full crew cab and a 4WD diesel with the Allison when the second very big dog adopted us (Tibetan mastiff mix?) and we challenged the old gasser with some nasty grades that it failed on. Solved a bunch of problems with that upgrade!

RE: Mountain Home, ID to Elko, NV

We've done that route several times with our 28' fiver. It is a fairly easy pull, but quite remote so be sure you have plenty of fuel and water. We love to camp at Bruneau Dunes at the northern end of the route. Fantastic dark-sky nights and an observatory that is open if you are lucky.

RE: We're Baaaacccckkkkk!

Thank you! We bought the Duramax/Allison and happened to get a really nice High Country package around it. Great pulling truck! Our standard is pulling up the incredibly long 14% grade from Gabbs to Berlin-Ichthyosaur. Oh, and then camping in the max length 25' sites. Oh--we fudge that length just a bit because of the king-pin shortening effect of the 5th wheel :^)

We're Baaaacccckkkkk!

Wow it's been quite some time since we've posted here. We traveled through the western states with our fantastic kids and beloved truck and trailer (2003 Nash 28-5D) for many years (~70K miles worth). The kids are now productive adults on their own and we recently found new homes for the old truck and trailer. We are starting to look toward retirement. Time for an adult rig! We just ordered the truck and trailer we've been dreaming about for years: a new Chevy and an Arctic Fox 27-5L. Well equipped, but small enough that we can travel and park just about anywhere (lots of solar, generator and tanks)! We are fond of remote camping and primitive state parks and hope to expand our travels from the western states to the entire nation. Lovely to see rv.net is still here. Looking forward to participating in this very congenial group once again! Karen & Marcel
