RE: Campground near Dinosaur State Park Connecticut

The reason you didn't get an answer yet is 'cause there isn't anything near there. Witch way are you going from there? Starting to realize there truly is nothing anywhere near the area. We're coming from Michigan, so heading east. Looks like 80 to 84 through Pennsylvania and into Connecticut, then 691.

Campground near Dinosaur State Park Connecticut

Looking for a campground closest to Dinosaur state park in Connecticut just to sleep for one night. We have a 35 foot TT. Need electricity at least. We do not need any frills. We will be arriving from Michigan and leaving first thing in the morning. Pull through, FHU would be best but ease of location and on/off freeway is most important. A quick search showed no KOAs in the area, which is our usual quick stop for sleeping. We are not interested in Walmart or truck stops. Thanks

Pulling TT through Newport Rhode Island

We hope to travel on the east coast next summer and previous experience has taught us it's complicated with bridges/tunnels, etc. We would like to go from Dinosaur state park in Connecticut to Normandy Farms in Massachusetts but with stopping at the Breakers in Newport Rhode Island for a tour. Is it possible to pull a 35 foot travel trailer through Newport Rhode Island and into Massachusetts? Thanks

Bay of Fundy campground

We'll be traveling next summer to Maine to visit Acadia and then moving up to New Brunswick to visit Bay of Fundy for a couple of days Any suggestions for campgrounds in the Fundy area? We have a 35 foot TT and prefer electricity. Thanks

RE: Campsites directly on Lake Ontario in Canada or NY

The two nicest provincial parks on the Canadian side of Lake Ontario are Sandbanks and Presquile. Both can be tough to get into during summer months and usually need to be reserved 5 months in advance. See here for the park reservation site and more info. Thank you. We were considering NY as well but it appears our route will be better for a stay in Canada. I'll look into this. We'll need a Saturday night stay so I'll plan ahead.

Campsites directly on Lake Ontario in Canada or NY

We've camped directly on the beach on Lake Huron, Michigan, Erie, and Superior. Now we need Ontario. Does anyone have any suggestions for direct beach camping on Lake Ontario in either Canada or NY? This will be for at most 1 day/night. We have a 35foot TT and need at least electricity. Thanks.

Mi to Acadia and Bay of Fundy New Brunswick

Looking ahead to next year and hoping for suggestions. Traveling with 2 teenagers and an 11 year old in a 35 foot TT. We will have 16 days and can travel up to 650 miles per day. We're all seasoned travelers, this is our norm. We'll be leaving southeastern Michigan and heading to Acadia and the Bay of Fundy in New Brunswick. I'm looking for campground suggestions and must see places to visit in these places and en route. Top priority for the kids is to "eat lobster." I'd like to take them whale watching as well. We are nature lovers so hiking and natural elements interest us the most. We are not interested in visiting Montreal or Toronto en route. Niagara is only 4 hours from home so that's out as well. Any campgrounds recommendations are appreciated. We need electricity at least. We don't mind KOA and even value the amenities on occasion. Also, any advice of avoiding crowds in Acadia? Thanks

RE: Shenandoah National Park in April

Thanks for the suggestions. We're staying at Luray KOA for a night, then on to Misty Mountain RV park before heading down to South Carolina for 2 days to visit Charleston and Congaree NP. We'll stop in West Virginia at the coal mine on the way home. Thanks for all of the suggestions.

RE: St Louis West/Historic Route 66 KOA Campground

Yes, we stayed there a couple of years ago. The drive to downtown was very easy and less than 25 minutes, no big deal. The campground was nice and we felt safe there. I traveled with my 3 kids and we had no interest in staying in the downtown area or in a casino parking lot which had been suggested on here.

RE: Northeast Trip Help

Philly is great! I'd go back. We all enjoyed touring the Eastern State Penitentiary. Kids were 7, 11, and 13 at the time. They got to try out the cell lock where Capone stayed. It was a unique experience. We also drove over the bridge to New Jersey to tour Battleship New Jersey. Liberty bell only takes a few minutes. FYI- if you want to tour Independence Hall in Philly or the Statue of Liberty at all, you need to purchase tickets in advance. It's well worth scheduling your day around a tour of the crown of the Statue of Liberty if they're still available, it was awesome! When we stayed at Liberty Harbor, we took a ferry over to NYC and right where we got off the ferry, there's a stop for the on-off tour bus. We did try the subway too, but we found the on-off bus a great way to sit back and tour NYC. Enjoy your trip!

RE: 1 or 2 days in West Virginia

Lots of things to see and in WV, but not all campgrounds are open that early in the year. Do a good search to find one in the area that you decide to visit. Yes, I'm having trouble finding one open. Do you have any recommendations?

RE: Cleveland Ohio Camping

Don't forget to visit the USS Cod and Cuyahoga Valley National Park while there.

RE: 1 or 2 days in West Virginia

I was very interested in a tour of a coal mine, but it appears that they are only open for tours starting April 1st, and we will be in the area on March 31st. Shoot!

RE: 1 or 2 days in West Virginia

ever been in a coal mine? kids love it. No. We've been in caves and copper mines but never in coal mines. Any in particular you'd recommend for a tour?

1 or 2 days in West Virginia

In April we'll be coming from Virginia back to Michigan. We're looking to spend a day or two in West Virginia simply because we've never visited that state yet. Kids are 16, 14, and 10. We enjoy just about anything except art, shopping, and baseball. Any suggestions on activities or places to stay? We have a 35 foot camper. Electricity is a must. Thanks.

RE: Sleeping Bear Dunes

It could still be cold. Honestly, it was snowing here in the lower peninsula through the end of April this year. It might be nice and warm, but it's typically cool right on Lake Michigan.

RE: Summer tip up thru MI, WI and Mn

I earned the nickname "mosquito ninja" from our UP trip a few years ago in the first week of July. Sure, it's beautiful, but the mosquitos and 28 degree weather at night on July 6th, made it not a fantastic trip. My sons are going with their scout troop in the end of June...... I'm buying them hats with bug nets for their trip.
