RE: First Aid Kit Contents

As a retired doc, I'll say BigRed has nailed it pretty well. Don't go overboard on fancy stuff. In an emergency use what you have. Duct tape, a Leatherman, and kotex pads will suffice till you are in a better place! These days I might go for one of those hemostatic packs, just in case -- REI and others have them. Common things are more important. Pulling a sliver or stinger requires a nice sharp forcep of some sort. Antihistamines. Some OTC pain reliever. Cortisone skin cream. And whatever prescription meds you need.

RE: Driving 89A (Arizona) from Bitter springs to Fredonia ?

Been on that in a DP towing. There's one pretty long climb and then a descent. Road surface is good and the views are fantastic.

RE: Leaving out of Gold Canyon, Which way to Flagstaff?

In a car or standard RV we usually go Payson, Happy Jack, and Flag. I had no problem with my 38 foot DP towing a CRV. At your length, I might revert to I-17.

RE: The Coronavirus

Still going on my Euro river cruise in May. Just booked a trans-Atlantic cruise in November. I'm not planning on staying in my room under the covers.

RE: North east Ohio to So Cal.

Should be quite empty here in Phoenix area in July. And a chance to experience Hell without making it permanent. How many days are you planning to take on the way out and the way back? That will tell you what time you'll have at your final destination. I'd plan to spend as much time in the mountains as possible, and less on the coast.

RE: I-70 Colorado in April

Yeah I wouldn’t change your plans. There are other ways around I70 to Moab if snow comes.Ha Hah -- the alternates are snowy too! Just wait it out if the weather is bad.

RE: Best route Gallup NM to Page Arizona

Another vote for 264. It is a road unique in America. And in the event of a breakdown, the native folks there can likely fix about anything!

RE: AZ79 Between Tucson and US60.

I drive Mesa to Tucson pretty regularly, and wouldn't think of using anything other than AZ79. True, Oracle (and Twin Peaks/Tangerine) are slow-go with lights and traffic, but 79 is a good road. And for me, I-10 is a nightmare of semis, white pickups, and souped-up little Hondas.

RE: Easy Peasy Bacon Dishes for Camping

My go-to bacon recipe: Get package of favorite bacon Fry it up. Restrain yourself. After restraint failure, find nearest grocer, buy more bacon.

RE: Traveling to the NW

All I can say is I agree that it is always "different strokes for different folks". As for me, I can't understand why folks head up to a part of the country they want to "see" and then stay on the freeways the whole time. To me, WA14 is by far a more pleasant road than the busier I-84 through the Gorge. I cannot think of a lot of paved state or federal highways that aren't traversable with an RV. Heck, they're all full of 53' semis.

RE: What temperature do you leave your home at

Mine's in a relatively dry area. Set it to 55, with a web connected Honeywell thermostat and a camera looking at the front door. Snowed there today. Too bad!

Another vote for Van Horn.

RE: Heated Mattress Pad

I think a heated mattress pad comes as close to ecstasy on Earth as you can get! We use one at home, and now while snowbirding in chilly Arizona I am using the one we had in the MoHo. Fantastic device. Put it under the regular mattress pad to eliminate those little lumps from the wires. The MoHo had a sleepnumber, which to me was just a glorified air mattress. Never a problem with the heater. (As long as you have some 110 power!)

RE: 4-Corners

The Four Corners "area" is our favorite area in the US to visit. That said, the actual "4-corners", like others stated, is not much. However, I don't consider it a ripoff. The Navajo people there are always courteous and friendly, and they are just trying to get a little income. Considering what we spend on an RV, I don;t think a $3 donation is an imposition.

RE: Anyone gone on a Cruise?

Heck we prefer the sea days. Balcony is great for that, as long as it is smooth. Our favorite itinerary is Trans-Atlantic! As one guy said, "there are porters and there are crossers -- T/A folks are crossers".

RE: Anyone gone on a Cruise?

OP has picked his cruise, and I'm sure they will enjoy it. One thing to consider in choosing a cruise line.If you look at the prices for the "Premium" lines (Viking, Seabourn, Oceania, Crystal, Azamara) and compare them to the "Mainline" lines (Princess, NCL, Royal, Celebrity, etc.) you might get sticker shock. However, many are much more inclusive. Crystal is our favorite, and has gone all-inclusive now. Wine, drinks, tips, all in. And the service is unquestionably more attentive. So the price difference is significantly less. We took Alaska in successive years, on Oceania then NCL. Same company, but night-and-day difference in service and food. From less to more pricey, our favorites: Princess>>Viking>>Crystal>>Seabourn.

RE: WA 20 or US 2 across the Cascades summer 2020?

Summer: 20 for sure. One of America's most scenic roads!

RE: Hwy 97 BC to California

Check the pass reports at WSDOT web site for Blewett Pass and Satus Pass conditions, on US97. It's clear today, but there's already been some nasty weather there.
