RE: Fridge on propane while driving

Very seldom anymore. $25.00 wireless temperature gauge tossed on dash. I can keep eye on temps. I can go all day driving in most weather without it running. Guess depends on fridg/freezer. Why? To save the $0.25 of propane or just like watching fridge temps? So far we've got 1 no, 1 I'm not sure what, contradicted himself. 1 rarely. Who cares picks side of the fence and the rest yes. For the no, maybe and confused, please tell the rest of the class what makes it more dangerous than running when stationary? Or do you just believe propane is out to get you? Actually the truth is my wife can see the temps for herself. Seems whenever we would stop, as soon as we get going again she would ask if I checked what the temps were, because she forgot to look Got tired of it.

RE: Hose question........

we expect to camp in parks with full connections. Any thought to a water pressure regulator? Good insurance, but definitely not guaranteed if you leave water spikot on all the time. Personally myself I dont and just fill tanks when I need to.

RE: Tire warranty

Dont know true or not. My local les Schaub told me they could not get maxxis after I ordered knowing, I had to leave on trip at a certain date. Time ran out and had to settle for their "best" trailer they were pushing. Emailed maxxis inquiring about being out of stock on west coast. Email back from maxxis said was a lie. Printed out email after trip, sent to Corp les schawb. Corp les schawb replied with basically sorry and hurry back for more tires. Les schawb not as good as once was.

Other RV uses...don't know why and don't want to...my wife uses it on our RV toilet. She's happy to do it and I'm not asking questions. She's happy, I'm happy.

RE: elec test help on Onan gen

Yes, most generator installs cable runs directly from battery or nearby terminal block to the generator No electronics between those points 12v battery up front, or 12v battery sitting on the ground beside RV It is still only 12v battery You can not harm anything if you connect the jumper cables correctly Hopefully today, time permitting I'll hook up direct to battery to genny to test.

RE: elec test help on Onan gen

Does the starter engage the flywheel and start cranking the engine and then mysteriously just disengage before the generator starts? Or does the started just click, you hear the gear fit the flywheel, and then it immediately retracts and shuts down? Can you put a meter on the starter battery terminals and then watch the display while you're cranking the starter over to see if it hits 6 volts? Either that or as MrWizard suggests put a battery on the ground right by the generator and run some jumper cables to the terminals on the generator. "start cranking the engine and then mysteriously just disengage before the generator starts"? describes it best.

RE: elec test help on Onan gen

I'm going to ask a really important question, have you read the manual? There was nothing wrong with my Onan engine, oil level, battery charge, damaged wires... I finally deciphered the little set of flashes on the display. Mine wouldn't start because the generator was not outputting. So you may find the answer in the manual. If it's not there, what have you lost, nothing but a few minutes. Yep have read owners manual and service manual. Service manual not that helpful as I wish. Covers about a dozen things, then for "faults" says to see authorized deal.

RE: Chicago Trip Advice

https://www.cruiseamerica.com/rv-adventures/rv-destinations/top-rv-destinations-around-chicago Link is right off CA web site. Tourist type stuff... https://www.tripsavvy.com/tourist-attractions-in-chicago-1492259 And in some big cities nothing wrong with renting a rental car for the day. Sometimes parts of old cities have low bridges or parking hassles and stuff, that RV's just don't do well. And some rental car companies deliver right to your RV.

RE: elec test help on Onan gen

(Sorry was typing same time Chris was posting)… But, don’t really understand starter engage disengage. Does it run and not crank the genset? That’s usually a broken part in the starter, but some models are more prone than others. To me sounds like a weak bindex gear on a starter. Only thing that comes close in the trouble shooting guide is what they describe as "starter engages-disengages" (cranking voltage dips below 6 volts-low battery charge, poor connections, long cables) OK seems OK to run jumper cable from starter to genny. (Typing same time above posts were) I'm trying to trouble shoot the battery cable from genny to battery. But don't know if there is any electronics are installed in this cable, and I don't have access to seeing entire cable. Looks like when the genny was installed, installers lay'd out the cable then used a couple "P" clamps to hold cable in place (in back of genny) and then jacked up genny and bolted into place. So jacked up into place, I can't see entire cable. And don't know if I should blindly bypass this cable. Do most battery cables, (positive side) run directly from battery to starter on genny?

elec test help on Onan gen

I know there must be a common since answer to my problem. My gen doesn't want to start. As in "starter engages-disengages" What describes my problem the best. Working my way thru the trouble shooting checklist, (A)battery state of charge, (12.77) (B)try starting gen with vehicle running (didn't work), (C) clean battery cables and battery posts...Here is where I could use some help. Only one end of cable I can get to without pulling the genny. Appears the cable has a wire bracket clamp (better known as a P clamp)that holds the cable, so cable doesn't rub on other stuff I guess. I really don't want to drop the genny just to test a cable, big hassle to get it out and back in. So I'm thinking how to test this... without the pain of pulling the genny. Thinking about running a regular auto jumper cable directly from battery to genny. In other words I'll by pass the cable being used now (that might be bad) and see what happens. My concern is the other electronics I might not see. Is there anything I could screw up doing a test like this? On genny's, the cable goes directly from battery to genny or is there anything in the cable routing such as a fuse or relay or ? (I didn't post genny info because this is a elec test question, really not model specific). Thanks

RE: Northwood Runaround Rant

What I understand NW does NOT provide schematics. 8 years ago, or more??? they stopped providing schematics. So I went wire "fishing" by removing my overhead my fan vents plastic trim piece, and with a coat hanger found lots of wires. I also removed the front panel on the elec fuse box to make sure connections were tight. I found 2 metal screws just laying loose. Loose as in maybe the screws could vibrate and bounce around shorting out something. Screws looked like what an installer used to mount the box. NW has been good to us. We were missing some stuff when we bought used. Called and provided vin number and list what we were missing, about week later UPS showed up with big box full of goodies. Have you checked out https://www.nroa2003.com/forum/ While no longer a member myself, lots of good info that was handy for new NW owner. NW still ones of the better OEM's out there IMO. But certainly not built like years ago. Somewhere on youtube somebody has video of NW making a unit and showed them putting in wires.

RE: Anyone ever use one of these

Watch some YouTube on it first. Can be dangerous. But after you do it some and dont take any short cuts, not that bad. Get thick welding cloves. Mine are from harbor freight. Dont refill at crowded places, people here a propane hiss and think worlds going to end.

RE: Cummins longevity and maintence

Retired Cummins engineer I now like Ford fluid and grease as long as spec's ok. I've got that Ford stuff in my Dana 70 right now. But that is for what I have. Google up a vin decoder and find what you have. Bear in mind my 2001 dodge has numerous errors or omissions on maintenance in owners manual. I like moparman1973.com for what I have

Thanks for info. Washing tow vehicle this weekend, the stock hitch label says 1000 max tongue weight. Never had a problem (and safe for now) but think I'll get bigger rating hitch. Thanks.

Where does the weight go to when using wd hitch?

If tongue weight scale says 930 pds and then you hook up to to hitch ball and then load up wd spring bars...what happens? Where does that 930 pds go?
