RE: Dometic FRig operation

If set to Auto then yes it should automatically switch to propane when the power goes out. One caveat though. Make sure the propane lines are purged of air and the refrigerator will run on propane.
On my trailer when I pull it our of storage the propane does not work until I light a stove burner to purge the lines of air. If the lines are still full of air then the refrigerator pilot has no chance of lighting. My old camper needed the lp lines purged ever time I relit the stove/refrigerator, so thanks.

Dometic FRig operation

Good morning. Learning my new systems. Frig has three modes; gas electric; and auto. If my generator runs out of gas while on ac mode, will it default back to propane? Doing some driveway camping to become familiar with all the new onboard gadgets. It's goin gto be different than the old "88" C.

RE: solar pre-wired questions

Our new rv has an outdoor two pin plug-in for solar. What do I need to take advantage of it? What are it's benefits and limitations? We don't currently have any panels.
Most factory solar wiring is kinda minimalist in AWG wire gauge - you’ll be lucky if it’s #10 AWG gauge, and a lengthy roundtrip wire run (+ & -) adds to overall resistance (meaning excessive voltage drop - ugg…)…As such (if wiring panels in parallel) consider limiting your panel wattage to about 200w or so, or if more wattage is desired, consider wiring the panels in series (to help compensate for small’ish wire gauge) using an MPPT type controller that’ll exploit the higher voltage - or add a separate wiring run (of sufficiently gauge) from the roof-top down…This can often be accomplished by snaking the new wire down through the rooftop refer vent..
3 tonsAs has been said, the wiring may not be heavy enough for a substantial system. I see little portable set ups. Can I then use this plug in for a battery maintainer to top it off while boondocking, maybe 100 watts or so? These, I believe come with a charge controller for a minimal system.

RE: purchasing from dealer with a hail "freckled" sidewall

I've determined there is only light cosmetic damage on the passenger sidewall. The roof will be resealed and inspected by me at the pdi. I will get a new battery, full 2 propane tanks, and I got the 400.00 prep fee waved. I'm satisfied with the deal and pulled the trigger. Thanks all for your input.
If the discount was sufficient to ignore the resale value hit, good call.
PS: Mythbusters episode was overly complicated and horribly flawed. Much simpler would have been to take a ballpeen hammer and dent up the car after doing the pre-testing. Our current camper is a 1988 Mallard C which we have had for 20 years. What do you suppose it's resale value is.....crickets... I hope they bury me in the new one. It will start out as an expensive rv but end up as a cheap coffin. Best of luck

RE: purchasing from dealer with a hail "freckled" sidewall

You need to talk to an insurance adjuster about the insurability of the hail damaged rig... What I suspect I suspect you do as well or you'd not have ask.
Now here is an interesting thign.. What will it do to toe TOWability.
Well Mythbusters did a segment on a "Dimpled" v/s a smooth car.. Turns out the Dimples improved MPG.Yeah, I saw that. I miss ghost Busters.

purchasing from dealer with a hail "freckled" sidewall

About to pull the trigger, I think, on a used 2020 Braxton 24 RB with some hail damage on passenger side sidewall. Will this affect insurability and should I have it noted for warranty purposes?

Any opinions welcome. We are looking at one. Are you glad you bought yours? What amenities do you wish it had or unforeseen negatives? One I read was that the CO detector starts beeping when dc power is low and there is no off switch. Lack of drawers in the kitchen? How do you like the build, quality wise? We're looking at a 2021. Thanks again.

RE: PayPal Money Request Scam

It seems to me that any level of internet participation requires a basic sophistication and awareness. I never respond to any e-mail. If any action requires my attention, it's easy enough to log directly onto a https site and verify any question. If we continue to get dumber we only help these scams flourish. As long as a sucker is born every minute there will be plots to separate them from their money.
I also don't measure "wokeness" when doing business. The transaction is either beneficial or it isn't. I leave social responsibility to others.

RE: Securing generator while running

Lay an empty .357 magnum ammo box on top?
Ammo is expensive. Why give them a bonus when they take your generator? How about microchipping it? Has anyone tried that?

RE: Securing generator while running

A regular cutoff wheel will make short work of a Kryptonite cable/lock DAMHIK
All one can do is slow the thief down--so they will go to some one else.
I use the same Kryptonite cable through the handle and then through a stabilizer jack. I keep it stored in a Rubber Made bucket with a cover, the cable goes on when it is in the bucket. And the genny is in that bucket all the time, other then when it is running or it is cooling down after running, then goes back in the bucket. And, I roll up the shore line cord.
I "never" leave the site when the generator is running. The genny is unlocked when it is running, but I am in camp then. And when both wife and I take the truck and leave the site, the genny goes back in the truck bed with us in the same Rubber Made tub.
I go by the, out of site, out of mind theory. I do not advertise the genny being left out when it is not running.
And, as was said above, any of this is only going to slow down a real thief wanting it, if they know you have it. If they do not know you have it, as they can't see it, then it betters the odds they will not hit you.
I often see many campers leaving their genny out in the open, shut off, not running, for days on end in the same spot. Their bad luck may run out sooner then mine, I hope.
I'm not sure there is a thief proof way to do this.
Hope this helps
I guess since I live in a place that doesn't require infinite vigilance, protecting against crimes of opportunity are all I'm going to prep for. Thanks.

RE: Securing generator while running

These are all great suggestions or discussion, but what am I missing about the obvious solution….
Use your onboard generator.
Not sure where you camp that backup generator to the generator is necessary. But anywhere I’d even consider that to be possibly needed would be a VERY remote location which in itself is good site security.
But in the absence of removing the temptation from the equation, the proverbial big ole logging chain and big ole pad lock is your best bet.
Like Michael posted above, most bike lock type cables even the expensive ones aren’t that big nor very hard steel and can be picked away at and cut with small hand tools fairly quickly.
Step up to a real chain like 3/8 Gr 80 or heavier or heavy rigging cable choker if you want to eliminate the tweakers who aren’t even smart enough to have stolen a cordless grinder yet…
What I can tell you is a shiny red Honda 3k genny is right up there with F250s and Toyota Camrys on the tweakers Christmas lists. Unlike some of the rvnet folks who sit around here and say how the cheap china gennys are so great and just as good as Hondas, the “pros”, those who are powering homeless encampments and/or hocking them at pawn shops 100% realize the additional value of obtaining a quality generator…lol.I'd bet you have spent some time in Slab City. Ha Ha.

You can chain them but.. Won't you notice when they are shut off?I'm a sensitive sleeper. But I'm more concerned with leaving camp for while with the ac on. Never had an issue with thieves but the times, they are a changin'.
