RE: 170VAC coming from my Onan generator

Note that 170v is standard AC sinusoidal ‘peak’ voltage that relates to 120v which is RMS... Perhaps check your instrument settings...
3 tonswhat? no light bulb for a meter? maybe a true rms meter?

RE: What's a good MSRP discount in today's market?

First, thanks to all the replies.
Now slightly related question. The floor plan I want is a 24.5' long Coachman Freedom Express 20SE. It's the exact floor plan as the now discontinued Ultra Lite 204RD. Coachmen and stripped some stuff, and will present it at a lower price point.
Thing is, it's not to be shipped for several more months. This dealer said he had one because Coachmen built a "prototype" ahead of schedule for use at a regional Super Show.
At least that was the story told to me. In any case, it's the only one I can find anywhere. From the "original" price I can get it for 24% under that price, OTD, excluding state tax. otd excluding tax is not "out the door" in texas.

RE: Electrical Extension Cords

Ok thanks for the advice I appreciate it.
We have not used the trailer yet, bought it at the end of October and the dealer has stored it for the winter. We have booked some camp sites in Ontario Canada starting in May and several sites say the electrical box could be up to 30 ft?
Make sure to carry an adapter to convert a 30A TT plug to a standard 15A plug. You probably can only run 1 A/C on 15A, but that is better than nothing.
I have heard of a few newer (and much farther south) camp sites that only have 50A hook ups. ya mite want the adapter to go from 30 amp rv plug to 30 amp twist lock receptacle like on a generator too. all you 30 amp stuff should be rated for 120v the 50 amp will be 120/230v, you prolly wont need that

RE: 5.3 vs 6.2

OP, I'll throw a curve ball at you. Skip the 6.2 in the half ton and get a 6.0 in a 3/4 ton. You'll leave a couple HP on the table, but get a SOLID engine/transmission combo that is better for towing than the half ton.
I did that exact thing years ago and never have looked back. I still have my 09 HD 6.0 and with 98k on it so it’s got along way till I sell it. In my opinion, the GM 6.0 with 6 speed combo is one of the best ever made. the 3/4 ton suspension is much better for towing than the 1/2 ton, dosent matter on the engine size. i have the 6 ltr in a 3/4 ton crew with 4.10 gear and it tows good. likes the gas though

RE: Advice to omit the auto change LP valve

Im going off the highly scientific data of my camping friends saying "the regulators on trailers are junk and leak all the time."
I dont use the auto feature and hoped i could find a higher quality single regulator for a cheaper price.
The Marshal high flow is $30 but it looks to be the same "crimped" construction as someone described above. My lack of knowledge on the subject makes me wonder if its the overall construction that fails. Or do the auto change components fail?
You don't need a new regulator.
But you DO need NEW FRIENDS!
They are 100% "scientifically" wrong and you are just following their bad advice like a "lemming" right off the cliff.
Leave your auto change reg in place, only leave one cylinder turned on and enjoy.
I personally do that and have done that on 2 different trailers with no issues..
The nice thing about having auto changeover and only have one cylinder on is you can simply shut off the empty tank when empty while camping, open the full cylinder and never have to break camp to get cylinder filled or have to physically change cylinders.
If it does develop a leak, you WILL smell it, so as long as you do not smell anything there is nothing wrong with your reg.
If you currently have a hose leaking, just buy a new hose, buy 2 and replace both at the same time just to have fresh hoses. why do you need the auto feature if you leave one tank off?

RE: How to get rid of soap streaks after washing a TT?

Hmm, maybe add some automatic dishwasher "Jet Dry" to the rinse water... ;) ...but actually, that stuff never even seemed to do much good in my dishwasher! LOL it works. there is other products like it that are cheaper. i put it in the soap bucket when washing. i think it helps

RE: My luck ran out,, Hail Storm.

i had a toy hauler hit with hail. only three dents and a roof vent cover. insurance totaled it. i kept it and took the lessor amount, replaced the ventcover, used it for 4 more years, sold it and made money over what i paid for it. used the hauler for 5-6 yrs total and i bought it used.

RE: Max length definition

since no one answered your question, just threw more out there, i would use the length from where the ball hooks to the truck to the rear bumper on the trailer. then call or ask the campground if it will fit

RE: How cold should the air conditioning get the RV?

The other factor to consider is humidity. The higher it is the less cooling you will get. less sensible cooling, still removing latent heat

RE: How cold should the air conditioning get the RV?

1. 32 RV. A 15k will NOT cool the RV adequately in temps over 85 degrees. PERIOD. You need 2 AC units in RV's over 27 foot. Especially since Slide Outs are almost standard in Trailers. Do you have a slide out?
2. IR temp guns are NEVER used to determine Air temp in a AC system or a Refer system. You must use a digital thermometer to determine air temps.
3. The ONLY correct test on the performance of a AC unit after all variables have been verified(coils clean/filter clean/divider gasket) is a temp corrected AMP draw of the compressor.
4. RV AC units only hold about 1 lb of coolant. So, if you do have a leak, it will either cool or not. Not partially, as the coolant will have leaked out enough to not work at all. Doug I agree with everything but #2 an analog thermometer will work as well, does not have to be digital.

RE: Vehicle for Towing

Out of the box the Armada if you get the lower profile tires and IRS will handle the trailer better.
The Tahoe will handle like garbage with the squishy tires GM puts on them.
However, some stiffer LT tires and a perfectly installed WD hitch... Possibly some better tuned shocks and the Tahoe does pretty good.
Mine took some fiddling but it handles great now (like it's on rails)
Thanks and good luck!
Jeremiah what is a squishy tire? thought all tires were squishy?

RE: Kirkland Signature synthetic 5W/30 ??

Walmart's SuperTech Full Synthetic is the required DEXOS certified for GM vehicles. $14.88 for a 5 gallon jug. I've been using it the wife's Traverse with no issues. $15/5 gal ? that's $3/ gallon or $.75/ qt. ? or is my math bad?
