RE: Best and worst routes across the Mountains ?

Consider the road hierarchy. Interstates have the flattest grades. Primary state highways the next flattest, etc. Cross the mountains on the biggest road you can find.

RE: Some musings on future power trains

If you have a Cummins diesel, there is no reason on God's Green Earth to long for a different engine.

RE: Ford F-250 7.3 Gas Engine Axle Ratios

3.73 is a great all around gear ratio. Positraction or the equivalent matters.

RE: What’s for Christmas dinner?

Fried shrimp, coleslaw, garlic bread sticks, ambrosia and pie and cookies. There will be just 5 of us and 4 of us like to keep the carbs down, so no potatoes or rice etc and the ambrosia and pie will be low or no sugar. If you want to keep the carbs down you can take out the bread, pie and cookies. don't kid yourself.

RE: Tent Camping Forum

Make some phone calls to find out what is open in winter. Are you in CA or OR? Santa Clara and Lincoln City are a long way apart. I like low elevation sites in winter. Check with BLM, Forest Service and State Parks. Many websites are not updated and misleading about winter services.

RE: Solar Panel Sale What Am I Missing?

Watch out for cheap Chinese junk, imitations and used equipment. If the price is too good to be true, beware. 100 watts of quality solar panel is going to cost around $100. If you buy a quality MTTP controller you will need fewer panels.

RE: Sourdough while traveling

I have eaten a lot of sourdough biscuits on ranches and sourdough pancakes. IN Alaska we were introduced to sourdough pizza which is really good.

RE: Never get lost.

I am always in remote locations. Otherwise what is the point of going out there? I had an outdoor career. By around 1990, we had almost complete coverage in Nevada with analog phone service. Now about half the state is covered with cellular phones.

RE: Steamed Clams, Pacific NW - Washington

I used to live on the East Side of Camano Island. We dug clams all the time in the shallow bay. We lived on them.
