RE: Class A Low Bridge Accident

I wonder what his eye level was above the ground when he hit that bridge? Seems to me that it was not too far above his head and that he probably ducked when he saw it coming. Glad they will probably recover.

Guess I need to get it pulled out. Looks like a bit to much for my 80 year old self. Looks like the easiest way is to take out the head light and go in through there. Thanks everyone As I have found out, some jobs that used to take a few hours, can now take a few days. I still know it will be done right if I do it myself.

Once you pull it out, you may find that it is a minor situation that can easily be fixed at any radiator shop. If it cannot be fixed, I am sure that the radiator shop can find a generic replacement.

RE: Class As in cold weather?

We use our gasser almost exclusively in the Winter out West. We spent many nights below zero in the mountains. We always took chains because you never knew when a snow storm would pop up. We also hooked up to shore water only to keep our water tank topped off. We only hooked up to the sewer to dump our tanks. In the wet basement compartment we put in a thermostatically controlled 150 watt incandescent light bulb installed in a trouble light wire cage. We disconnected and removed the ice maker hose. We never had the RV water pump or a water line freeze. Inside we used our furnace very seldom since a couple of 5000 watt space heaters were sufficient in all but the coolest temps. We also carried a portable heat pump that we vented to the outside, which was quiet and worked well to keep things comfortable in below zero temps. A portable 120 volt heat pump is never exposed to the outside temps so they will work at below zero temps. We also used small fans to blow on the windshield to keep it from frosting up. The other windows were double pane which helped keep the interior warm. I believe with proper preparation and with some limitations most any RV is usable during the Winter months.

RE: TPMS Settings

Make sure your tires are inflated to the correct PSI according to your coach weight. Then check your TPMS readings after driving most of the day and see how much they have increased, assuming they are all consistent. Then I set my TPMS setting 10% above that. If you travel during the Winter, be sure to check your inflation pressure before you start out for the day.

We travel on a lot of back roads so we don't always have the big truck stops available. Once I get to about 1/4 tank or so I will stop at any station that has clear access to their pumps. Sometimes it is a little station with pumps adjacent to the road or other type of station where I can see that I will have easy access in and out. I do not get hung up on stopping for one specific brand when I need fuel. I just go for the ones where it is obvious that I can get in and out with ease.

The Hella fog lights I have on my RV can be flipped but embossed on the lens is "top" which indicates that the beam will be cut off to prevent reflection if installed correctly.

I believe that most fog lights, when the top of the beam is cut off, have a wide 60 degree beam. The driving lights would have the 30 degree beam to shine further down the road and would rely on your existing headlights to take care of the near illumination.

I believe driving lights and fog lights are two different things. Fog lights are usually designed so that the top of the beam is cut off so as not to reflect back from the fog. They usually do not shine too far down the road since the visibility is restricted anyway. Driving lights are designed to shine far down the road when used in high speed highway driving.

RE: old diesel fuel in tank

The moisture/condensation in the tank could also have caused the exposed metal surfaces to rust which may start to show up in your fuel filter as rust colored debris. It will quickly disappear as the fuel flushes it away.

Whether on shore power or generator I always kept one of the Kill-A-Watt meters plugged in to an outlet. These are less than $20 and will give me an instant readout of the exact voltage and the frequency. With both AC's running you can see if your voltage is low or if your frequency has dropped below 60 cycles. Most appliances will operate within a specified voltage range but keep in mind that the lower the voltage, the higher the amperage. You want to try to maintain 120 volts at full load with your generator. Some RV systems also have a type of power control panel that can shed loads(turn off items automatically) during periods that may exceed the capacity of the generator.

RE: Bubbles on the side of his RV

The bubbles he is talking about MAY be in an RV with aluminum side walls in which case they will be paint bubbles that must be removed, filled, and repainted. Most of these bubbles include corrosion through the aluminum skin, water behind the skin, and the repair can get pretty involved.

Bent wheel on one of the corners or the need for a 4 wheel alignment so that the rear end is pointed in the same way as the front end. Not too many places can do a thrust angle alignment but that may be your issue.

RE: Dash AC not cold

I always just used a good temperature probe in the AC duct and added refrigerant very slowly and watched the temperature. As soon as it got to the lowest temperature and started to retreat, I stopped adding refrigerant. This worked well for me with my Classic cars with Freon 12 as well as with the R-134a. Then again, I'm no expert and was only interested in cold air from my AC unit.
