RE: Tonneau Cover

I have a Bak Revolver X2 on my truck. Got it from 4wheelonline. I like it because it doesn't block the rear window when rolled up. It is easy to open and close. There's only a slight water intrusion in the tailgate during heavy rains but not really a big issue.

RE: Silverado 2500 shocks

Can't go wrong with Bilstein shocks. I'm happy with my 1500's, but some guys prefer the 4600's. Both series have the same valving/dampening, the main difference is that 5100 is intended for lifted trucks.

RE: Which old motorhome to buy

I totally agree about the pre-2008 comment. Also, a used med-high end one is a good choice.

RE: Photo Thread - Post a Photo of Your Truck Camper Here

Hey, I'm new here. I bought this 1996 Texson camper last year from an older couple who had kept it in nice shape. I did some basic maintenance and upgrades (deep clean, new battery, onboard battery tender, 100% LED lighting retrofit, etc.) and then built a subframe to elevate it over the fairing on my F650's flatbed, and incorporated fork pockets and lockable storage. The camper is permanently "tied down" to the galvanized subframe, and the subframe is secured to the flatbed with nylon webbing straps. When I mount it, I just lift it up with my forklift and back under it. The truck's air suspension usually runs 25-30 psi with the camper mounted, so it's a nice cushy ride and it doesn't hammer the camper to death. Total height is about 12'6" to the top of the AC unit. I just finished de-winterizing the camper, and I'm getting ready to take a 2-3 day trip down to Cedar Rapids, IA this weekend. Looking forward to putting some miles on it this summer, although it's already paid for itself in hotel savings. https://i.imgur.com/UDUy0Vwh.jpg The day I dragged it home - had to bring a car trailer because it didn't fit on the truck. https://i.imgur.com/LS1yojwh.jpg The basic subframe, minus the sheet metal panels. https://i.imgur.com/b7xUgIKh.jpg The subframe parts and ladder, fresh out of hot-dip galvanizing. https://i.imgur.com/DA1ONq6h.jpg The tiedown strategy. (I have incorporated a spring-loaded rear tiedown since the photo was taken.) https://i.imgur.com/tU0W62xh.jpg Plenty of lockable, albeit not weather-tight, storage. This was a boondocking trip to a campsite way off the beaten path, near Duluth, MN. If you're going to drive a big truck 20 miles down a logging road, bring a chainsaw. https://i.imgur.com/95GHQlQh.jpg That ladder hangs on the camper's roof ladder when it's stowed. (I added grip tape after this photo was taken.) Nice camper. I also like the modifications you did on your truck.

RE: cleaning tinted tempered glass

I just tried McGuiars Oxidation Remover..says its for gelcoat, but it worked on the windows. Interesting. I thought this product is for gelcoat and fiberglass only.

RE: generator

If your generator is not equipped with auto start, it could be a wiring-related issue.

RE: diesel additives

I've been using Diesel Kleen in my Duramax for several years. Better performance, better fuel mileage. That is what I use. No adverse effects whatsoever.

Heat gun plus a plastic blade scraper should do the trick.

RE: Tuner like “5 Star Tune “

I have a 2017 6.0 3500HD, so basically your truck. I tried Diablew, he deals with the Diablo tuner. He can do a custom tune for you. You do some data logging and he adjust the truck based off it's specific parameters. It really woke my truck up, firmed up the shifts, removed some torque management and yes a tune like this or a dyno tune will add HP and torque. I am a fan of the Dyno tune 11 sec WS6 and a 12 second 14 Caprice they are dyno tuned, but the Diablew tune worked similar to a dyno tune and I am really happy with it. The 6.0/6L90E tune from the factory is poo, it is really mild. I tend to believe his claims of 20 to 40 RWHP depending on the tune you get. It certainly holds the gears differently and makes use of all the power. DiabLew Sounds like the custom tune is the way to go. I have a diablosport that I got from 4wheelonline. The canned tunes are great but I want to improve more the power and drivability of my truck.

RE: love the truck hate the ride

Upgrading the suspension can improve the ride of your truck. What's the size of your dually wheels? Running smaller rims will allow you to have more rubber. This can help also.

RE: Opinions on lightweight portable inverter/generators

I have a Honda 2000 also. It is quiet and easy to haul around.
