RE: How do you handle no toilet in Pop Up?

When we were avid tent campers, my wife would often need to fertilize the forest in the middle of the night. That was a big motivator to buying a fully equipped truck camper. My two favorite amenities in our camper are the bathroom and the fridge. No more wondering if my wife will get eaten by a bear in the middle of the night and, due to the fridge, no more hassle in dealing with ice! If you go with the non-toilet model, the portable toilet and outhouse tent would probably be the way to go. However, be mindful of high winds!!!

RE: It looks like my truck camper days are over.

Looks like a great find! Best of luck in the future. Wish we could share a toast together to commemorate your new beginning.

RE: When impatience hurts!

Anything that distracts from keeping eyes on the road, and the brain engaged in driving/controlling one's vehicle, creates a hazard. We all tend to overlook the fact that many lives can drastically be altered in the blink of an eye. When I first got my drivers license, the insurance agent told me they replaced the word "accident" with "collision" because the majority of them are preventable. This video clearly shows a preventable collision.

RE: When impatience hurts!

The MH was also tailgating (traveling too close to vehicle in front), creating another hazard if the vehicle he/she was approaching needed to brake due to a road hazard, or other unforeseen circumstance.

RE: Finally Common Sense in California (No Shows at Campgrounds)

We've been active campers for about 30-years. Never used to make reservations, but also never had trouble getting a campsite. Times have changed, so we now often reserve sites. Definitely has pros & cons. It's frustrating to see idle resources when there are consumers ready, and willing, to pay for them. Empty campsites during busy times is such a waste. Imagine a generously stocked food buffet, and hungry people anxious to the buy the food, but it's being saved for those that never show up. The food goes wasted and dumped in the trash - - so sad. Empty campsites are the same in my view. Yes, unexpected things happen and some well intentioned campers are unable to arrive as planned, but I believe they are the exception. I think if a reserved site is a no-show, the site should be released the next morning and all fees forfeited (non-refundable). However, convenient systems need to be in place to allow campers to cancel their reservation when something comes up. That's a whole topic all by itself!

RE: CO/LP Detector

I believe that your original "70" series is the only one with a solenoid to cut gas flow. Check to make sure as there could be other series #'s out there that do that as well. I think you're correct. Unfortunately, it looks like the 70 series is unavailable and some of the other series don't have the solenoid. I got sidetracked yesterday because the truck batteries died. I spent time pulling them and cleaning the trays, connectors, brackets, etc. Repainted some of the parts too. Also, good discussion on the characteristics of CO and LP.

CO/LP Detector

I need to replace the CO/LP detector in our camper. The current unit is a Safe-T-Alert 70-742 and I'm having difficulty narrowing in on the proper replacement. Have any of you replaced this same detector? If so, can you share the make & model you used? Thank you!

RE: How to keep a TC from being stolen when not on the truck?

Although rv thefts are rare, it does happen. Since prevention is usually cheaper & easier than fixing a bad outcome, I changed the code on our first camper's remote (similar to customizing a garage door opener). With our current camper, I've been too lazy to do the same. Maybe it's old age creeping up on me.

RE: Roadtrip by car vs RV, a couple of thoughts...

However if you already own the RV the only way to maximize its value is to use it! That's our philosophy too. We've already paid for it; might as well enjoy using it - and we do! A few years back, we stayed in a hotel after not having done so in quite some time. Wow! I had forgotten all the work involved dragging suitcases in and out, packing and unpacking, and limitations on what we'd want to bring along. With the camper, we pretty much bring whatever we want and the stuff is convenient to access whenever needed. We especially enjoy having all the conveniences available during the trip(s) to the desired destination(s). Even if we stop for a burger along the way, we'll usually eat inside the camper and make use of the dinette, restroom, etc. Sure, things could change for us in the future. But, for now, it's the rv all the way.

RE: Flying J / Pilot to install megachargers for med/heavy trks

We own a hybrid that gets 42-mpg and completely love it! It's quiet, economical and a pleasure to drive. Trying to determine where and how everything we own or consume is made, and under what conditions, is beyond my ability. Add on top of that the never ending lies and attempts to manipulate the population, not based on facts, but to accomplish ones own quest for power and money, regardless of reality or the impact on others. Again, that's a lot to sift through! I'm just trying to make it through each work day and put food on the table!
