RE: 5th Wheel vs. Gooseneck

I built my RV bed for fifth wheel hitch and gooseneck ball. When I had both kinds of trailers I was constantly switching back-and-forth so I put a king pin post on my gooseneck trailer so the fifth wheel hitch worked for both. That was the best of both worlds… The easiest hitching for both trailers and no gooseneck adapter problem on the fifth wheel RV. I will mention this setup to my uncle. He also has two trailers and he's tired of switching. We'll just finish installing the new suspension and truck tires on his F250 this week before we can work on the hitch.

RE: Arcadia FL RV Resorts

Peace River gets a lot of good recommendations. I have not personally stayed there. My neighbor stayed at Peace River and said they had a nice experience.

RE: ALWAYS something!

EVERY time I've gone out, in this one and the one before something breaks. EVERY time. Welcome to the sad state of the RV industry today. With RVs, manufacturers have always tried to include as many "features" as they could, just so they could claim the product had that long list of features, for which they could charge more money. But they also use the absolute CHEAPEST parts they could find, and still be able to claim the RV had the "feature". Result? An RV loaded down with cheap, plastic-fantastic garbage with very poor reliability/durability. We've all experienced it, and it IS frustrating. And the more expensive RVs tend to have slightly better equipment installed, but they still have a higher failure rate than similar ordinary household items. Your only recourse is to replace what fails, if you want that "feature" at all. Sometimes, it's possible to search and find a better quality replacement that will fit, and might last longer. Your RV's failure rate does seem to be higher than normal, but it's all part of the game. Good luck. Same reasons why my uncle prefers the older RVs.

RE: backup monitor

Okay, we'll check RV Cams when we start working on my friend's new '07 RV. The backup monitor isn't good and wants something very clear. He already ordered a new set of tires from 4Wheelonline and will be installed this weekend so we'll do the interior mods next week.

RE: My Fridge Died

My Norcold model 6053 fridge has all the symptoms of a plugged up pipe. I've tried to keep it level over the years but, I'm not the original owner of this Travel Trailer and,, it's 29 years old. I guess nothing last forever. It still sucks. I go dry camping sometimes and I have no wish to convert over to an all electric fridge. I've been looking around the internet for a replacement cooling unit and I think I've found a good place called "RV Cooling Unit Warehouse". I have a 21-year-old original Dometic fridge and I would probably go with www.rvcoolingunit.com guys. Cooling units are much cheaper to replace that entire fridges. Suggest you talk with someone at the cooling unit warehouse for replacement advice. They surely got good models!

RE: Time to prepare

Here also. Prepping to go down to Lake Ocoee in Georgia soon. Checking things over and shining things up. I'm ready. Love coming down to Louisianna too. We go to Abita Springs usually. Lake Ocoee is on our list for this year. Our plans for the trips aren't final yet with too much project to finish. Hope to get out there by the end of the month once the parts from 4Wheelonline arrived and get installed.

RE: formaldehyde smell

Two methods: 1 put 3 or 4 saucers or shallow bowls filled with vinegar in the space and let it sit for a week. Then remove the saucers and air out the space. 2nd sift baking soda on all surfaces. Let sit for a few days then vacuum the material surfaces and wipe the hard surfaces. Air out the space for a day. This should help with your problem. Okay I will tip my friend neighbor with those tricks.

RE: microwave replacement

Another option is to modify the compartment where you old RV microwave was mounted so that it can accept ordinary microwaves. Example: https://i.imgur.com/kqyM2Fwl.jpg Looks great! My uncle is also having a hard time looking for a replacement microwave. We'll just finish installing the suspension and jeep wheels on his Wrangler this week and we'll start interior modding of his RV.

RE: Battery power

Those devices are convenient, but significantly over priced ! Definitely! Your RV already has the battery. All you need is a solar panel and charge controller - both of which are dirt-cheap nowadays. Here's a handy, inexpensive way of hooking solar panels up to just about any trailer - without making any modifications to the trailer whatsoever: https://i.imgur.com/mXVY3htl.jpg https://i.imgur.com/SzDIw7Gl.jpg You simply plug your trailer's hitch connector into it. Power from the charge controller (Renogy's $20 Wanderer 10A PWM model) is supplied to your RV's house batteries through the Charging wire in the hitch connector. The $13 Harbor Freight Apache 1800 protective case case is waterproof (when the lid is closed), so this rig can be left outdoors indefinitely. I use it with a 100 watt solar panel (around $85) connected by 50 feet of wire. This portable arrangement allows the panel to be moved around to whatever part of the campsite has strong sunlight, and allows the panel to be quickly removed and stowed. That's a pretty good kit!

Put a few damp rid containers inside in different areas. Damp rid is your friend. My uncle has been dealing with mildew lately. I'll tip him about the damp rid.

RE: rv mattress

This one. The wife likes it...so, I guess I do too. That looks like a good one. My aunt is asking for a recommendation as well for their new RV. I will help them install the cabinet and accessories after it returns from tire mounting and balancing.
