RE: FLORIDA RV PARKS for SnowBirds

Just can't figure out why anyone would want to stay in these "sardine" parks...

RE: Full-time in the Arizona heat

we live in New Mexico and have just gotten used to the heat. We live in a 38' fifth wheel that is under an RV carport. We just leave the windows open. When we get home from work the rig will be 95 on the inside. As soon as the sun sets it cools off in the the low 80's. We put a fan on and go to bed. At times we may run our AC for an hour or so to cool the rig down a bit quicker. We never run the AC during the day.

RE: More campers than parks

We have never had an issue camping on weekends, even in the busiest states and tourist destinations. Reservations in advance work every time. We've already booked most of next July and August. If you're intent on winging it, you'll likely continue to be disappointed.... You need to head north. Never a problem with campgrounds being full in the northern lower and the UP, particularly the UP

RE: That time of year

We live in New Mexico and are able to camp year around. A bit nicer than our days in northern Michigan!

RE: Blow out water lines question

your fresh water pump likely has a small filter/screen on it. On my rig I remove this filter as it generally still has water in it even after I blow my lines.

RE: Watch for this rig in Mexico but do not approach

We boondock exclusively. We always take as many precautions as we can. I, personally, would not boondock within 200 miles of the Mexico border. To me it is not worth the risk...

RE: Pig tail propane tank connector hoses.

Does anyone make these with a metal twist on connector versus plastic? I have had issues with these plastic fittings when the temps are very cold, even to the point where one cracked in halfI think the plastic is designed to melt and disconnect during a fire. The internal valve on the cylinder would then shut off the flow of propane. Makes perfect sense, thanks!

RE: Sale of Direct TV to Dish TV

May be time for all of you to toss your TV's and get back to camping. :)

RE: 2WD or 4X4 for a truck camper

OK I'm going to bite on this worm. I have an older Dodge Dually 4x4. It has a Dana 60 front end. I have had it since 2003 and yes it has less than a 100k miles LOL. I live here in the Northwest and used it almost every weekend carrying an Arctic fox 1150 (5000 lbs). This is what I can tell you about 4x4 from my personal experience. The front works well in slippery travel in a level straight line using HT tires...but wait there is more. If you are pitched at an angle in a situation as say snow with a load like a TC of this weight....the front end is useless. It was said in previous posts...what is truly a 4x4? Well this truck has a limited slip rear Dana 80. I'm not going to go to deep but if you want a true 4x4...it requires a locker kit for that front end. There are many kits and if you really are serious about front end traction install a locker so both front tires are pulling at the same time...when you really need it. It is a well known fact that dually's suck for off roading...

RE: 2WD or 4X4 for a truck camper

If you never plan on leaving the pavement buy a two wheel drive truck Otherwise go with the 4by4

RE: Need Toy Hauler with 15' garage or more, What to look for?

Make sure you carefully review the carrying capacity of the toy hauler you select. We found instances where if you hauled anything in the garage the rest of the rig had to essentially be completely empty.

Unrelated to your original post but are you really towing a 40' rig with a half ton pickup? Please disregard I mis-read your original posting

RE: Where do you find water

Won't be an issue if you pay attention, Love's truck stops usually have a spigot, as do many gas stations.

RE: Quality versus Price

Purchase what you can afford and what you believe fits your lifestyle plans. Do this knowing that you will need to fix a few things along the way. If you are not a handy man you will need to find a good RV shop to fix your issues. Finding a good RV repair shop can be its own challenge...
