RE: Towing with a 2022 Ford F250 7.3L

^^^ The F350 SRW is about $300 more than the F250 with high capacity tow package .... Although the two trucks will be identical other than badging, the f350 will give you considerably more payload, if you are at all concerned about the number on the door sticker. Ride "quality", especially empty, is worse on a F350.

RE: Alternators - what are your thoughts?

Using power generated by an alternator seems to be pretty common while in transit. How do you equip your truck - a single high output, dual alternators, or stock? Basic needs are pre-heating, or pre-cooling the living space and the fridge while driving. Having a 2nd alternator presumably would allow one to do it all at a fairly low initial price and some sacrifice of mileage. The first question is, how big is your house battery bank ? One 12V marine/RV battery, two 6V golf cart batteries or four 1V LiFePO4 batteries ? Second, if you are boondocking, is the vehicle charging system a major power source to replenish the battery bank while driving to your next site or do you just want to prevent the bank from discharging more ? If you just want to prevent discharging while driving and running an inverter, the standard alternator and charge wiring in the 7 pin trailer harness is adequate. If you are really want to recharge a battery bank, buy a DC-DC charger and install it near the battery bank. It may only output 20A-40A but over 6-10 hours of driving that is a lot. IMHO, dual alternators are a waste of money because you do not have the proper voltage regulator/charge controller and wiring to send that power to your battery bank.

RE: Fan Speed Control

You will find that just about every fan speed control uses resistors, ... What the OP wants is a pulse width modulated (PWM) speed control. It is the most "optimal". Very little energy is wasted (turned into heat).

RE: Absorption vs. Residential refrigerator

Thinking about getting back into Raving. Two things I don't want in a new RV are propane and a black water tank. There are much better alternatives that provide the same functionality at lower cost or at least less maintenance.

RE: Absorption vs. Residential refrigerator

See if the maker uses a Danfoss compressor in their unit. Danfoss has been bought and sold a couple of time in the past 15 years of so. I don't know if they still use that brand name or not.

RE: Mechanics backed up for weeks all over?

My second car has been sitting at the shop for a week and I haven't even gotten an estimate.

RE: RV Refrigerators Cooling Issues

By far for the best performance, especially in hot weather, replace the refrigerator with a compressor type. There are even places that will retro-fit a compressor on to your existing refrigerator. Guaranteed cold beverages and ice !

RE: Tips on asking friends for mootchdocking?

Just the opposite ! Occasionally my daughter's family needs to park in my driveway. Usually for only a couple of days. They are so EMBARRASSED to ask !

RE: 50 amp TT with generator

If it's a single air/con unit, yes. If it's multiple air/con units...maybe, maybe not. Probably with a MicroAir Easy Start on both !

RE: ? electrical problem...what’s happening? Should I worry?

Oops, thought of another question: if when I take the battery into a battery shop and they test it and if they say it’s “good”, then presumably the problem would be a failing converter? Yes, and that is my first guess.

RE: Honda 2000i generator amps surging up and down

Almost all cases of small engine surging is caused by dirt inside the carburetor. Typically it is a clog in the idle/primary jet.

RE: Chevy V8 vs Ford V 10

The only V8 that Ford has made in the past 40+ years that is "adequate" for a Class C is the new 7.3L gas engine. It has only been in production a few years.

RE: Air Filters For Your Trucks

I pitched the K&N that was on mine when I bought it. IMO a diesel flows so much air the K&N needs to be thoroughly, and I do mean thoroughly, cleaned often. Few people do it thoroughly or often ! This can cause big problems. Few people know that auto industry used to use similar type air filters on many cars over 60 years ago. They stopped because proper maintenance was not being done. Frame air filters at Walmart are reasonably priced.

RE: Anyone with 12v Air Conditioning Experience?

Do not mix battery chemistry's ! Stay all lead acid or go LiFePO4. Stick with an A/C unit that runs off a 120VAC. That way if your camp site has it, you are good to go. You absolutely need a Micro-Air EasyStart Some of the Chinese brands of inverter are actually pretty good. Check out the YouTube channel DIY Solar Power with Will Prowse. He has actually done several battery/inverter/air conditioner builds. Some have run for weeks before he disassembled them. Not a well know brand, but good reviews Ampere Time 12V 200Ah|2560W LiFePO4 battery 4000~8000 Cycles. Will Prowse has also done sever DIY LiFePO4 battery from individual Chinese cell. These are a fraction of the cost of per built batteries. Use a 24V battery bank and inverter. Gut feel is you will need 200Ah @ 24V (400Ah @ 12V) higher voltage allows smaller wire.

RE: Enhancing RV security

Not that I have anything really valuable, nothing beyond a computer and similar hardware but I would hate to lose the few things I have. Simple. Dont leave anything of valuable in your RV.

RE: Ac on generator problem.

The A/C are likely shutting down to overheating. Overheating likely caused by low voltage. The only way to prove it is a good meter directly connected to the wires at each A/C unit.
