RE: Anyone ever try the Traction pads for a Truck Camper

I would try those recovery mats and will try those gators, great idea. Had the smittybilt trax and got basically one and a half uses before they were trash. The traction knobs bust off very easily with diesel torque and edges also break very easily under the weight of a camper. After one use I knew they wouldn’t do in the long run. Mine broke in half the last time I used them in mud. My firewood and roll of carpet got me out, not the trax.

RE: Help! One of my jacks won't retract or extend!

It is correct that you can’t lift with three jacks, 1 front and 2 rear. You can though lift with 2 front and 1 rear. Like someone said it used to be 3 jacks tho they were not even front to back, one was about middle on one side. Huh? So while on the supports, remove the bad front and replace with a good rear. Walla, good to go until to you fix the now rear jack. A big yes to putting the bad jack on the back just in case it does tip, a little leg is better than none. And yes, probably a shear pin on the gear or the mechanism with the lever that transfers from manuel to auto, it’s plastic. I rebuilt mine last year but sitting here now the memory is a little foggy. Also, let a lot of air out of your rear tires so you don’t have to lift the camper as high. Maybe down to 15-20 lbs.

RE: loosing old members

Fred Rated was Shadoe Stevens, a disc jockey from KROQ, the rocks of Los Angeles same time as Frazier Smith, my fav jock of all time but only when on KROQ. Anybody remember his intro song? I remember Frazier Smith, but just barely. I think he was about done there when I started listening. Is he the one that did the Tiny Tina character and the Twin Dragon Almond Cookies commecrials? But no, I can't remember the song right now. I might have it on one of my many tapes I made back then... KLOS and the might "met" KMET were the staples...machine gun Kelly, Jackson B sniderfish, paraquat Kelly and the fish report...the "rock" was to "new wave" for me. Actually KROQ was the precursor to KMET and the others, it was underground FM before FM really took off. And whoya, the fish report with a beat with the jocks you mentioned and the Burner Mary Turner. Frazier went to KLOS after the Rocks and got real stupid with his show. On KROQ his opening song was Panic In Detroit by David Bowie and he’d scream all the way through. He came on at ten pm and I’d do my college math homework to his show. No wonder I had to take Boolean Algebra twice. Okeedok that’s all from me, nice sharing memories with you, have a good one.

RE: VTR - virtual trip report, my last one

Hey Cal, thanks for the heads-up here and boy that’s a lot of pictures of a lot of awesome places. I’ll be sure to enjoy Dark Canyon for you and keep it in good shape should you ever make it back. And good choice at Bobby’s Hole, let ol Jefe leave some paint on those rocks. Enjoy the next chapter in your book of traveling the good ol US of A and beyond.
