RE: Firearms in RVs in California

On a lighter note. My DW and I traveled to the Hoover dam for the tour. I moved my 9mm to the trunk of the car as we had to go through a check point, and I didn't want it to be within arms distance. Sure enough, they asked me if I had a weapon. I responded that I did, and it was in the trunk. They turned us away, and we had to store it at a gun range about 20 miles away before we could enter the Hoover dam area parking. My DW asked me why I just didn't tell the agents that I didn't have a weapon, to avoid the long drive back and forth for storage. I replied, " Honey, we have Texas plates on both ends of this auto. Do you really think they would have let us through without an inspection"? But, to the OP. I wouldn't go anywhere in our RV without a weapon. Especially CA. Happy Travels!! Skip

RE: Gas Class A

A few things to consider. We also did the tent, van, pop-up, and fiver before getting our now Class A gasser. We only use ours five or six times a year for a week or two at a time. WE own a diesel truck which we used to drag the fiver. This is the best vehicle I've ever owned, a 2007 model, so I started looking at the DP's. After considering the initial cost of a newer used one and maintenance cost thereafter, I decided to go with our 2014 Tiffin Allegro, with the V-10 motor. The oil change on my gasser is less than $50.00. As others have stated, the motor is louder going up hills, but on level roads we find it very quiet. You probably will be parked much more than traveling, so make sure whatever you decide, you like the layout of the living quarters. We just completed a round trip to Wyoming from Texas for the high school rodeo finals, and enjoyed every bit of our trip. Since Covid is pretty much behind us, the used RV's have come down in price, so you may be jumping in at a good time. When looking, I narrowed it down to the Fleetwood Bounder, Newmar, and Tiffin Allegro. We liked these for good reviews and models having the bath and a half. WE found that Winnie had many roof design problems on some models. Check out RV Expert on You-Tube. Good Luck.... Skip

What a shame

Wake up Texans!!! Just completing a trip from Dallas to Gillette, WY to attend the national high school rodeo finals. Visited Mt. Rushmore, Deadwood, Sturgis, Crazy horse, and many other areas. What beautiful places, and country!! The difference....No trash anywhere!!! Even Wal-Marts parking areas were clean and uncluttered. We're Texans thru and thru, but what an poor example we set for the rest of our country. Closing our southern border would be a great start!! Skip

RE: 2014 Ford V-10 Dropped plastic cap down oil fill tube

I would think the filler tube routes directly to the oil pan reservoir. The oil pump should have a pre-screen before supplying oil through the oil filter and then to the engine ports. Running the motor shouldn't be a problem. It's not like the old motors with the sump/splash pickup. Now, I'm showing my age...LOL. If it's not stuck in the oil filler tube, just drain the oil and remove the oil pan to retrieve it. Not a fun job, but very doable. Skip

RE: Best route

OP here. Thanks for all the info. A special thanks to Thom02099 for the construction information. I don't like going through the narrow lanes with our MH. Great site. Thanks again, Skip

RE: Black tank not draining!

WOW!!! Way2roll....What a great video!! This guy had to be an Aggie engineer from Texas A&M. Only one I'd know to go to such lengths. I wonder if the results would have been different if using square ice cubes rather than rounded ones? Good input....Thanks Skip

RE: Black tank not draining!

I've heard of ice cubes in the black tank will help break up the poo mtn, as you are traveling down the road. Can't hurt... Good Luck. Skip

RE: Cruise control

OP here. Dutch was right on the mark. I YOU-TUBED that CC switch on the master cylinder, and saw where this has been a problem on many Ford trucks. I found it on Amazon for about $38.00. Mine was actually on a line below the MC, and very easy to change out. Everything works as it should, now. Thanks to all for your responses. Skip

RE: Cruise control

OP here. We are part timers, and last outing was in January, and it worked fine. However, the windshield washer pump failed, which I replaced, and now works. Don't know if there's anything in that area of the motor that I might have disturbed. Also, this is a 2014 Tiffin Allegro gasser. Thanks guys. Skip

Cruise control

Our cruise control stopped working on our F53 frame MH. It has the ford v-10 engine. Any ideas what I can check? All advice appreciated. Skip

RE: GAS CLASS A. Vs. Dually

My..Oh my..Oh my...!! DW and I traveled F/T for three years after retirement, in a fiver pulled by our Chevy 2500. We hung it up several years back and built our lake house. Last year, she decided we needed to start camping again, part time. So, I agreed, but only in a MH. While pulling the fiver, it seemed that we were always in downtown Houston, or another big city, you know three lanes from one side or the other, and she says..." Honey, I have to pee...right now!!" Now, I say " Go back and take care of your business, wash your hands, and bring me a ham sandwich on the way back." For us older folks, the MH is best. Life is short....Try as much as you can, at least once. Happy Travels......Skip
