RE: Billings, Mt to Cody, Wy

I90 west to pick up route 212 at Laurel, which joins route 310 at Rockdale then route 72, which becomes route 120 at the MT/WY border. Easy drive, we have used this route in the opposite direction several times Great route - the only one we use when going to those destinations. Well, technically it's only logical route.

RE: Yellowstone: Cody to Gardiner

We took Cody to Gardiner last July and except for heavy traffic and lots of road construction and a buffalo who had the right of way and took his sweet time getting off the road, it was fine. It seems to me that there are boondocking sites between Cody and the park entrance. We had reservations so I can't help with winging it. The alternative is go up to MT, west on I90 to Livingston and back down.

RE: Chicago to Glacier NP during Stugis

Al's Oasis in Oacoma, SD has the best walleye filets and pies - oh my the pies.... The Blackfeet Rez in Browning has the Museum of the Plains Indian. Well worth the $6 pp/admission.https://www.doi.gov/iacb/museum-plains-indian https://www.visitmt.com/places-to-go/indian-nations/niitsitapi-blackfeet.html The Going to the Sun Road can't be overlooked - length restriction in effect. The Izaak Walton Inn in Essex - great spot to watch the trains and have a meal. Or stay in a caboose https://www.usparklodging.com/glacier/izaak.php Akrv: Wall Drug is in SD, not NoDak

RE: Looking for a Class C. No cabover with washer combo.

I’m counting outside and inside. Class Cs have one outside. As I wrote the Renegade had three and the Dynamax two. No inside steps. The Renegade had a washer/dryer we ordered from factory.

RE: Looking for a Class C. No cabover with washer combo.

I’m just starting to look. Preferably used. Looking for a Class C. No cabover with washer combo. I see a Coachman Concord deletes the cabover. Any others? I would also like a tv fireplace across from theater seating. Your specs so far are leaning more towards a +-34' Class A or a Super C. (possibly with slides) Chum lee I’ve got a 38’ DP now. New in 2005. I am tired of five steps getting in and out. I would like something not as tall and no more than 30-32’. I’m not crazy about driving a C but we drive less and stay longer. Rarely 300 a day every other day. There are class Cs that meet most of my wish list but they have a cabover. If I can’t find what I want factory made I might find one with the washer with a couch across from the dinette then modify it by swapping the couch for theater seating. Remove the dinette and replace it with an electric fireplace a rising tv behind it. Convert the overhead bunk to storage with cabinet doors. Change to res fridge. 2016 and so it has the six speed. Five steps - an MCI bus? The Renegade we sold had three and my grandson's Dynamax has two!

RE: Going to the Sun Road in Glacier NP

How does the sun road compare with the bear tooth highway? It's shorter, has length restrictions and not as scenic

RE: Walmart overnight parking

I'd rather stay in a CG than a parking lot. Local ordinance signs have a bad habit of disappearing from those lots - the booting fine is drastic.

Bighorn roads closed in Wyoming

KTAG radio in Cody is reporting road closures yesterday in the BigHorn mountains due to landslides on Hwy 14 and 14A. Chief Jos Hwy. All due to an extra three feet of snow that came down the past weekend. Sage Creek in Cody is also flooding. Yet when I reviewed the river levels for the Shoshone and tributaries - all showed normal. Water has caused severe damage on a Chief Joseph Hwy bridge, right at the turn off WY120 Additionally Nowood River in Ten Sleep is at flood https://www.wyodaily.com/story/2019/...wood/9092. And, Wind River Canyon - rock slide this morning. However, traffic is getting around it.

RE: Road 2 between Whitefish and Browning

But if you do it after dark be on the watch for deer, etc. My youngest son lives west of Kalispell and he won't drive The Swan at night for that reason I drive the Swan every night and most days. Yes you need to be aware of the occasional elk on the highway, but for the most part it's safer than 93.

RE: Road 2 between Whitefish and Browning

More info: So I'm coming up from Missoula and going to Whitefish because I was going to come up on the east side but told that there is not much to see on the east side. That being said, I'm now going to come up on the west side and end up in Whitefish. I was thinking of either #1. Staying in Whitefish for a few days and sight seeing Glacier National Park driving my truck only. Or #2. Just take a leisurely drive with my truck and trailer from Whitefish to Browning and sight seeing along the way. I guess the question is: Is it worth driving my truck and trailer over the mountain or just driving my truck to sight see and go back to Whitefish and then driving straight up to Calgary? Thanks for all the replies. Take MT83 up from Missoula to Seeley Lake or MT35 up from Polson to Yellow Bay and Bigfork. Those are the best "view" routes. US93 is just ugly by comparison.

RE: Road 2 between Whitefish and Browning

Headed up to Banff this year I hope and it would be nice to go between Whitefish and Browning on road 2. Looks pretty nasty though? Any input on this road? Naw - US2? It's an excellent road. I drive it a couple of times a week hauling heavy equipment and sometimes just for fun.

RE: Beartooth highway

I'm not a fan of heights!!!! The Cody side is much better. fred. Actually the Chief Joseph Hwy can be worse than the 'tooth - esp if it's snowed recently.

RE: Beartooth highway

How challenging is Beartooth highway in a Class C? I would appreciate any advice. Not particularly hard, IF you pay attention. Stop when you can - use the pullouts to avoid stacking up traffic behind you. The road from Cooke City-Silver Gate to Gardiner is open year-round so workers can get there/back. Plowing will start soon, but we're getting another snowstorm this week. http://beartoothhighway.com/ And, just for kicks here is the opening sched for Yellowstone https://yellowstoneinsider.com/2013-yellowstone-opening-and-closing-dates/
