Burch,

Do they still have fireworks every night and can you see them from the campground?

Yes, they do. We watched them from the campground each night we were there. They start at 9:20pm and run about 15 minutes. Here is a picture of the fireworks with me in the background and my 1 1/2 year old great nephew looking at them with his Mickey bubble machine.

Good Morning FOOFs

I have to get fuel for the motorhome sometime this coming up weekend. Next weekend, we are taking a trip to the Ortona South Core of Engineer's campground on the Caloosahatchie River. This river comes out of Lake Okeechobee and goes all the way to Fort Myers bay. On the east side of Lake Okeechobee, there is another river/canal that goes out to the Atlantic Ocean. There is a lot of boat traffic that comes through the 3 locks (one located at Ortona where we are staying) across the waterway through Florida. This cuts off a lot of travel time by not having to go around the southern point of Florida to get to the Gulf of Mexico. We have a water site right on the river and it's neat to watch all of the boats and barges going down the river and through the lock. Sometimes they have the lock open where you can walk over and watch them raise and lower the water levels for the boats coming through. At Ortona, there is about a 9 foot difference from up river to down river at the lock.

I wish I had gotten fuel two weeks ago when we came back from Fort Wilderness. I passed right by the Lazy Days exit where there is a large Flying J and a Truckstops of America gas station. Both are very easy to get in and out of with the motorhome towing the jeep. I didn't stop because gas at both places was $4.58 a gallon and I thought I'd take my chances two weeks later. Boy, did I mess up that gamble! Gas locally now is $4.75 and I probably need 40-45 gallons of fuel to top off the motorhome. Oh well.....

I remember when we first started RVing and the credit card cut off was $50.

I almost filled up in rural Illinois the end of May on the way back home and the cut off was $100. A couple of years ago I was filling at a Flying J and they put a $300 potential charge and my CC company put a stop on the CC before I could fill.

BTW, when I filled in May the cost was $4.49. We were $5.89-5.99 last week but this morning were "down" to $5.35

Gas has been holding at 4.49 locally here in Eureka, Missouri for about the last week. If I want to drive about 12 miles, I can save 5 cents a gallon at the Costco store we belong to! [emoticon]

We camped at Ortona a couple years ago while we were checking out a place to buy in Florida. We loved watching the boats go through and talked with some of the boatowners.
