We are going back to Modoc in April. I will make a trip to the horse farm and talk with them.

Good morning everyone. Burch to the best of my memory the owners of the horse farm close to the Modoc campground after hearing from me decided to back down concerning Old Fella. I was told Fella was a frequent visitor to the farm. In the winter he slept in the barn on the hay and got some food from the owners. He had become more of a curiosity than anything else and would not allow anyone to touch him. If approached he would disappear into the woods only to show up at night to find his spot in the hay. The owners were concerned that I was going to take Fella and put him down instead of taking care of him. Once I assured them he was in good hands they decided it was the best thing that could happen for him.

Nina and her husband were campground workers and worked at the check in station at the gate of Modoc Campground. They called him Blackie and often left food out for him during the summer months they worked there. When the campground closed for the winter they often wondered where Fella went to. They found out he visited the horse farm for comfort and warmth and an occasional hand out.

We guessed that Fella once belonged to a family that camped at Modoc and on one of their visits he wondered off into the woods and got himself caught in a leg hold trap and was not able to get back to them. When they couldn't find him they left. Meanwhile Fella chewed his toes off to get out of the steel trap breaking off his front teeth in the process. The foot healed but he had only half of a foot.

That Labor Day weekend in 2005 when Sue and I along with Levi met Old Fella he was pitiful. He was bone thin, had a fungus on his face, walked with a limp and those soulful eyes were haunting. Thus began a journey for he and our family along with all of those who became heartfully attached to him and his story.

Eleven years later his legacy lives on in the spirit of The Old Fella Burke County Animal Rescue as well as this thread of followers who have become to be known as FOOFS, Friends of Old Fella.

This October we will celebrate Old Fella in Sevierville, Tennessee with a rally to honor him and the work that continues to save the homeless animals of Burke County Georgia. Fella has become an inspiration to many groups across the United States. I remember once when Old Fella was so sick with the heart worm treatment that a church in California had people bringing flowers to the statue of St. Francis and on a Sunday during mass the sermon was about Old Fella and the caring people who helped save him.

Okay I have to get moving so I will close for now wishing everyone a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them.

Good afternoon FOOFs.

I started re-reading the Old Fella thread a few weeks ago and I am through the first 350 pages or so. It's nice to see some of the original (or close to original) posters still posting on this thread after all these years. I didn't even know I wanted an RV back in September of 2005 (didn't purchase my first one until July of 2011). I do wonder about a few of the posters that used to be regulars on the thread. Whatever happened to Lynn? She did a lot of planning for the first rally. And Camper Carl? There are many others that stopped posting over time.

I have also always wondered about the horse farm saying that Fella was their dog. I remember Richard saying he got a heated phone call from them but then later said the ownership issue had been taken care of. I am assuming they weren't Fella's original owners.

Anyway, just curiosity getting the best of me. I am going to continue reading the thread from the start as it is bringing back so many memories. I have already caught myself getting teary eyed several times. The only bummer is that most of the pictures are no longer posted but at least there were several of Fella and some of Richard's other dogs still there.

I hope everyone has a great day!

Good morning everyone. The nights are still cold here but the day's are pleasant except for the wind blowing.

Sue and the girls have gone for a walk while I finish my breakfast and look at the Old Fella thread. I don't have much to do today except go to the bank and put Arnold Palmer's letter in the safety deposit box. Last night at church a friend drove his newly purchased 1964 Chevrolet SS Super Sport for all of us who lust after such things could drool and look at this magnificent automobile. It looked as good as the day it rolled off the show room floor brand new. I came back home and looked at the 72 Lincoln and thought how nice to have a part of my past to come back to me and rest in my garage waiting for me to crank it up and take it for a drive. It too looks just as good as the day it was new forty five years ago.

Dale still have you in my prayers as well and the Branson and Healey families. I think this summer will be an exciting time for Sue and I. WE are planning on traveling since we have good equipment to do it with. Might be the last summer we have to take advantage of being young[emoticon] and in good health.

Okay I need to get moving so I will close for now wishing everyone a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them.

I ordered a 36 gallon fuel tank to go in the bed of the F250. That will give me a total of 56 gallons of diesel fuel which should get me six hundred miles down the road between fuel stops. The twenty- six gallon tank that came with the F250 short bed just isn't enough. Now I can stop when I want to not when I have to.

I really like the way the truck handles the Montana since I put the extra springs on the rear. The truck hardly squats at all when I put the Montana's load on it. Sue and I are talking about trying again this year for Michigan. We started last year and didn't make it when the Motorhome developed a problem with one of the slideouts. We are still talking about it and thinking we might go at the end of June.

Why not? New truck, new camper with new tires on it. If we are going, now is the time to do it. I will never be this young again, right?
