When we went camping this past w/e we wanted to go out ot eat one night but couldn't because we had taken the two dogs with us. My question is : Is there any campgrounds that have boarding for pets?
It seems like a good idea but must be a good reason that there are none. (reason we didn't leave dogs in MH was that they would destroy the inside)
If you ain't the lead dog...the scenery never changes!!!!

Crate them when you leave - that's pretty simple - they will get used to it - try crating them at home for a short period - make it fun - put new toy in with them or treats - eventually they will get used to it. We only had a dog melt down once when we were gone - thunderstorm blew up and our golden is terrifed of thunder. Rest of the time we leave the 4 of them alone without issues.

Crate them. It is very humane. Feed them in there crates for a week. Start treating them in the crate whenever they go in. Let them play with your toys in the crate. I have never seen a dog that cant be trained to love the crate. Crates today fold down and store easy. As for leaving multiple dogs alone. It only takes on accident to never do that again. Chewed electrical cords, chemicals under the sink, you name it. In essense the motor home in the eyes of the dog is just a big crate that you get into with them.
Had a buddy I was traveling with who had a female GSD. This was a work dog that was very well trained. He left her in the room for 1 hour when we went to the gym and she ate thru the dry wall and into the room next door. This was a very nice hotel!
As for thunder storms and noises. Leave the radio on when you leave and throw a sheet over the crate. This all limits external stimuli that takes stress out of the dog.

When you leave your animals more than and hour you can seriously risk there life especially in the summer. If your air goes off the heat inside will rise quickly. We never are gone any longer than that. The trade off of having my pet with me is enough to keep us there.

As others have said, a crate is the answer. Our dog started as a pup in a crate and anytime we want to do something away from the RV, or our TV, we put him in his crate and he's happy. It's just a matter of training them. It's like their own little "den".

I like your insight. Do you have any thoughts about how to help our dog? He is a 7yr. old lab mix, named Max. He is as good and smart as we could wish for. Our two older dogs (14 1/2 yrs.) passed last spring and he grew up with them, meaning that he has never been alone before. When we leave Max it is very stressful for him. I believe it's called Separation anxiety. We are getting old enough that we don't want to get a puppy. Any ideas?

How old is "old enough?" I am near 70 and we just got a new pup, and we love him dearly. He is such a character (Tibetan Spaniel) that he makes us feel young again.

Mike - get Max a stuffed dog companion and an automated treat dispenser. My dog cuddled with the stuffed dog, and a treat dispenser breaks up the time.
