Our Brichon (4 yrs old) has a terrible itching problem, we have change diet and so forth she is now on medication from the vet, but it is a steriod and makes her gain weight.

Anyone with the same problem?? If so any solutions??

Our Bichon does the same thing, however, it seems to come and go. I feel sorry for him because I'm sure he's miserable. I try to stay away from medication except as a last resort.

Have a GSD with horrible itching problems due to the dry weather. I have been using Aveeno Moisturizing lotion on her and she seems to be responding rather well, wish I had of thought of this sooner! Only problem is it leaves her somewhat oily feeling, oh well just means she gets more baths!

We were having the same issues with our Westie and now use a special shampoo with oatmeal in it. We also changed her food to Purina's sensitive skin with omega 6 vitamins in it. Since you have a white dog as we do, I will also tell you what I was told. Shampoos designed to keep our puppies white are responsible for some skin irritations. Our Westie is doing much better now. If she would quit running through all of my herbs, she would do even better, but she does smell really nice.

Bichons are known for skin problems. We took ours to a dermatologist and had her tested for allergies. She is allergic to grass and mold. She is on a special food available only through vets and we have to give her a shot every five days. The vet hopes to cure the problem with the shots but she said some dogs require shots for ever.

Might try "Scratch Free" from Dr Goodpet. It works great for our German Shepherd. Give her 15 drops morning and nite and she is fine. Forget for a day and she starts scratching. Before we used it she would scratch spots raw.

Note this is not a joke, even if it sounds it, do a Google search.

You mean it really works. I always wonder about that product.

Our's had a problem with itching. Our vet recommended a shampoo with hydrocortisone. Believe it or not we found a product called 8 in 1 Hydrocortisone Shampoo by Premium at Walmart. It worked wonders for us and our fur baby. She usually gets her bath at weekly intervals because she LOVES to be outdoors and turns a shade of gray instead of white. Product costs about $6.00 I think. May give it a try
