The upper radiator hose is connected to the water outlet connection which is that elbow that bolts onto the upper intake manifold.
Remove the 2 bolts from the the water outlet connection and remove the outlet connection.. After removal of the water outlet connection, revealed is the thermostat. The thermostat uses an O-ring seal. Ford recommends you replace this o-ring seal when you fool with the thermostat.
