I am selling the Country Coach Intrigue and buying a Sprinter van. I am going to convert it to my liking rather than using a factory conversion. Planing on the diesel gen, furnace, stove, etc. Additionally putting everything where I want it. Any ideas of resources for furniture and how cabinets, components are mounted? Have lots of ideas in my head.

Hats off to you for being ambitious.
Go here:
and scroll to the bottom for a cabinet installation diagram and a brief description.
There might be more clues for you in their website.

I really hope you go thru with the diesel generator, and post back when it's done. I know a lot of folks on here are interested in cost, weight, dimensions, and actual noise numbers and user experience. Are you planning on Onan's just-released diesel set, or the Kubota that's been around for a while, or ???

Good luck!

My vote's for the 'Kubota'...way too many negative experiences relating to 'Onan'

BTW SprinterConvert...always consider added weight to be a major factor in regard to your conversion!

1. The European market has lots of cabinets, seats, etc. for van conversions/Class B/vancampers. The cabinets are generally made of some standardized birch plywood. For the catalog, check Eurocampers.com and look for the Reimo catalog. There are also other companies but don't know who imports into the U.S.

2. An excellent book is the TravelVans by John Speed (British but you can buy with a credit card and they'll send to you). http://www.travelvans.co.uk/

There are some other books around to--one from Australia I believe (search this forum).

3. Check the sprinter-forum.com website--has lots of resources/places to get stuff.

4. For extra help/customization, check Creative Mobile Interiors (CMI) in Ohio or Sportsmobile. CMI is also happy to give you a tour and when they do stuff (as much or as little as you want them to do), they take photos and e-mail the progress to you. CreativeMobileInteriors.com When they install stuff in the Sprinter, they first put plywood to cover the walls and ceiling (with openings in the plywood to run wires, etc.). They have lots of experience with the Sprinter, including various methods of doing the diesel generators.

5. There are other postings on this forum re conversion companies where you can buy cabinets, etc.--including one company which has removable cabinets depending on your needs.

6. The Airstream Westfalia (James Cook Sprinter) screws and bolts their cabinets to the floor and wall. They don't have plywood walls. This is a good approach if you ever need to remove the cabinets. Gluing seems to be pretty permanent.

7. JC Whitney is supposed to be coming out with a new RV catalog.

8. CampingWorld has a catalog.

9. http://www.pplmotorhomes.com/parts/rv_parts_rv_accessories.htm

Someone posted here re the free parts catalog above. There's some huge wholesale company which various RV dealers sign up to distribute their catalogs and you order parts through the RV dealers--don't know if this is the one.

Diesel Appliances: Check out Erik and Amy Badger's Website. They have a Sportsmobile with a diesel furnace, and Erik installed the diesel cooktop. He mad a lot of changes/modifications to his van and there's a lot to learn from his experiences. They do not have a Sprinter, but the lessons learned will apply to any van - especially someone interested in diesel related issues.

Sprinter Conversions - check out this ebay offer.

Good Luck
.... My vote's for the 'Kubota'...way too many negative experiences relating to 'Onan' .....
I _sincerely_ hope that my miserable Onan experience is atypical, and doesn't represent a true picture of Onan's current build quality. But yes, others have had problems too. But I'm unsure it's actually a Kubota-branded generator, just that it has their engine. Also, I'm unsure of either's noise level, but the recent press release on the small Onan diesel used the term 'quiet'... (tho' I plainly heard a gas 4.0 "Microquiet" [Ha!] for at least 120' as I walked away from a C that it was running in at a recent RV show). Jim "I'm so far behind, I thought I was first."

Thanks for the compliment! I have to apologize that I have not brought my website up to date with several more useful refinements. Soon.

SprinterConvert, I have lots of source info if you want to private email me about anything.

Quick summary: with enough inverter and batteries almost anything is possible. And the modular aircraft track everywhere makes it so easy to make improvements to your "first try".

Just back from a week of whitewater---I ran shuttle with 3 big canoes on the roofrack, 4 large canoes down the center aisle, and 4 more kayak-size C1's. Plus paddles and gear. Only had room left for 6 of the paddlers on the side benches. And that's with my normal outfitting installed. When my boat-hauling was done I had that rare "B" luxury of space.

I am going with the Power Tech 3.0k diesel generator. I have a 10k in my CC and it has never failed me. The 3.0k weighs about 60lbs more than the LP Onan and they claim it is designed to fit the Sprinter underbody like the Onan. I still have to figure out the weight thing so I don't end up with a fat Sprinter.
