We are looking at going to the Tahquamenon Falls State Park in Paradise, MI 49768 for a weekend, either Feb 8 & 9 or Feb 15 & 16.

If anyone would like to go and check out the frozen falls and do some X-country skiing you're more than welcome. Let me know if you're interested and preference of weekends. I'm told that the weekend of Feb 15 will be a bit busier because of some boy scouts that will be there.

I'm pretty sure we wouldn't like artic camping [emoticon]. But I thought I'd say "Hi" & good luck. Be carefull, I did winter training with the army & there are many things that can kill you. Keep the cell phone charged & on you at all times. It won't keep you warm, but at least they can find...............

OK, we will be going Feb 8 & 9. If anyone wants to join us feel free.

Hopefully it'll be cold with lots of snow but no wind (we don't like cold winds)

We have to go to Florida for a few weeks to help my blind Brother get some house and yard projects done or we'd be up there too. Tahquamenon's a beautiful and wonderful place in the winter. We've been there many times in January and February and lots of times in the Summer and Fall also. Hundreds of miles of groomed snowmobile trails and cross country ski trails. So much to do up there. Sure gonna miss it this year!

ill talk to deanna, mabey we can swing something we will keep ya posted. its amazing in the winter. other than a few boyscouts and some snowmobilers you will have the palce to your self. the only things even remotely dangerous are the wind chill, and the long icy stairs down to the falls, and the black bears, and they seldom come out in the bitter cold. definately watch out on on the stairs, they get a thick ice coating!! if we dont make it have fun be safe.

Joe, it would be cool if you made it and if not we'll see you in May, right?

OK, so nobody wanted to go up north this last weekend so we went alone, it was a great time and great weather Fri & Sat.

Our first stop was to take a look at the Mackinaw Bridge

Then on to the falls

And just so no one gets worried if it's safe to have a campfire or not...

We're at the lower falls

The lower falls have really cool snow cover boardwalks (and lots of them), they don't shovel them, they just get packed down with foot traffic

Along the board walk we noticed a path made by an animal but weren't sure who it was, when we went back that night this is what we saw

Mr Beaver
Here's our campsite in the morning

The road to the upper falls

The upper falls from above

and to get to the upper falls at water level

An older dog (13 years old) and metal grates for steps, equals...

The falls at the Brink

and back up...

There were snowmobiles everywhere, this is just a very small group where we were

We did some X-country skiing (or so we call it) until I broke the front part of my ski shoe right off.

We went to White Fish Harbor

and White Fish Point

on Sunday night the temps dropped to 5 F degrees, we were the only camper there but there were 5 sites with tents

The ride home was on the verge of a blizzard

At 10ish am the temp had dropped to -2 but I got a photo of -1

We had to be escorted back across the Mackinaw bridge due to wind conditions, shortly after we had crossed, the bridge was closed until further notice.

Here's a partial video of the white out and radio message, as soon as we got on the actual bridge we could see again

Radio message & our view
