You TC folks are always inspiring me with your trips, so I'll return the favor. This is not a trip for giant TC's, but something the size of my Tiger (19.5 feet long, 87 inches wide, just over 9 feet tall) should be able to make it in dry weather.

Have you driven California's Highway One along the Big Sur coast? Have you seen it from this perspective?

See my whole trip at http://picasaweb.google.com/Tiger4x4rv/SouthCoastRidgeRoad: from Hwy 1 up Los Burros Road, across South Coast Ridge Road, and down Nacimiento-Ferguson Road to Hwy 1.

Great photos! My wife and I traveled that same route in the early-eighties in an IHC Scout II 4x4. Your shots brought back some good memories ... thanks!

We have never seen Highway One from that angle. Great views and slide show; thank you for posting. [emoticon]

How tall is your truck? looks like most 4 wheel drive rigs might be able to travel this road?

My truck/Tiger is just over 9 feet tall overall, because I had the factory delete the roof AC and railing. Its ground clearance is the same as the Chevy Silverado 4x4 chassis on which it is built.

I'm not sure that 4WD would be required for this trip in good dry conditions; there wasn't anything that my old Toyota Corolla could not have done with a driver who had dirt road experience. In fact, one of the vehicles I saw was an older Volvo wagon. I think the road is closed when wet.

The main problem, besides any opposing traffic and limited passing areas, would be the width of a large vehicle.

For another, more well-known, driver's perspective, see Tony Huegel's website. Mostly he talks about the northern part of the coast road, not connected to the part I drove, but he does mention the loop I did toward the end. His guidebook has a whole page on it.

Here's a link to a different guidebook on the area.
