After Crater Lake we drove up the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway, through the cities of Bend and Sisters and camped on the Metulious River near Camp Sherman. The following day we drove across McKenzie Pass and eventually snaked our way down to Silver Falls State Park just east of Salem.

Crater Lake to Silver Falls State Park

Part 3 will be Silver Falls State Park and a drive down the Oregon and California coasts through torrential rains from the first winter storm of the season - got to road test the re-caulking job I did prior to departure.

You should have taken a relaxing soak in the Belknap hot springs. When you came off of hwy 242 & hit 126 there is a resort a mile east & on the McKenzie river. I like to go there once a year for some much needed physical therapy.

Did you wave when you went by??? We live in LaPine -- south of Bend. You took a beautiful route...sorry about the storm...we were complaining, too!

Very interesting. I'm looking forward to part 3. Fortunately, I'm not very busy since the economy has cratered, so I'll have plenty of time to enjoy more trip reports! Keep 'em coming!

Looking thru his pic's the dead trees you see along with the green ones are dying do to the pine beatle. I also see areas where fire has gone thru in some of his pic's.
