Jeff, interseting, looks like a 50/50 split on that board for hemlet wearing. I hope someone put a link to the story on there as well as a warning.

I don't know enough of the details to know if a helmet or other saftey equipement would have saved the lives of this mother and daughter but common sense tells me they would have had a better chance. It is just sad all around.

Agreed, its all good when it comes to off roading.

A helmet don't bother Me at all, as a Former ATC and Quad owner and now a bike owner, I am used to a helmet. The Rhino provides a way to haul the "Little Woman" around and see the sights, as well as a way for Her to tag along with the Grand Son with His little TTR110.

I saw that you have "Wrist Restraints"??

I have some but could not get comfortable with then, any suggestions??

Thanks

Off Trona road over TG weekend, I saw just ONE family all wearing helmets in a Rhino.

Now, I don't own a Rhino, but my question is why don't people wear helmets while riding in these side by sides?????

I didn't mean to hijack the thread. However, I have learned that about 50/50 wear helmets.

But, I already knew that. My questions is WHY don't people wear helmets? Reading between the lines it appears that people who do not wear helmets do not think that they need them.

I hope they never do!

Very interesting - Like I said I dont wear one now but it does have me thinking about it. With my kids in the back I dont do any of the iffy trails just more less fire road type stuff.

I have seen plenty of Rhino roll-overs with broken wrists, legs and feet. All have been stock Rhino's - I did see one head injury because the guy wasnt wearing the straps only the lap belt. Offset Wheels, Spacers or Long Travel is a must IMHO. All of the roll-overs Ive seen were very low speed around camp.

When we were wearing them we were going from bikes to the rhino and just didn't take gear off seemed like a hassle, we didn't wear them because we thought the rhino was unsafe but i think maybe we should consider something i mean sometimes skyjammer does go fast and up and down big hills.
We have harness seat belts, 2" spacers and offset wheels did that because we felt tippy but now we don't but we have the back seat and other people kids in there so we are not being stupid just cruising.

I like the bicycle or Snowboard helmet idea... With the cage and 4/5 point belts, I'm more worried about banging our heads on the cage then about a high speed impact like you would get on a Quad or M/C. I'll have to work on the 3yr old wearing a full face helmet!!

I only run them in the back for the kids with the 5 points. I have them set so in a roll-over there is NO way they can get there hands and arms out far enough to be crushed by the cage.

We do have a couple of people in our group who run the Arm restraints they have them set so in a roll-over there arms arent under any crush points.

I ride the streets every day with a helmet but feel a whole lot safer in my Rhino in the dezert. I agree a helmet would be best but I feel pretty safe strapped in with 5 points. If you wear a helmet cool if not cool too. We have 27 UTV's in our group - Only 1 RZR owner wears one but he has a magazine to get out to all of us every month.......
