HEADS UP TO FOLKS WHO OPEN THIS AND THINK IT'S THE SAME OLD POST-\
It's not. I'm adding more pics as I go. Check them out on page 2 and beyond.

I left the Bay Area and drove nonstop to Barstow, planning on staying in the Wal-Mart parking lot for the night. No such luck. RV's are now banned there. So I stayed in the Tom's Hamburger's lot, next to a Canadian couple in a Bigfoot. They said they were heading to "The Baja's" I was too polite to tell them there is only one Baja. But it sounds like a nice trip.

Got up the next day and made my first scenic stop at the Ca/Az border at Needles. The mighty Colorado river with the Needles in the background:

Then I journeyed on to the Verde Valley and Sedona area in Northern Arizona. I stayed in the parking lot of The Cliff Castle Casino, where I had another 12 volt adventure which you can read about in the thread titled "Please explain this."

The next night I was able to plug in at a friend's place in Rimrock. So nice to be plugged in when it gets down to the 20's at night! Spent the next few days exploring and hiking in the Sedona area. Here are some pics from the Broken Arrow Trail:

all of the trails there are dog friendly (U.S.F.S land)

I was going to head to Santa Fe next, but the weather there next week promises to be nasty, so I'm heading to southern AZ. From there I may make it back up to Santa Fe, but defintely plan on going through the Texas border country that Cormac McCarthy brings to life in his fiction. Eventually I'll be making it to Austin, TX. to see the incomporable James McMurty do a concert at the Cactus Cafe in early January. Stay tuned for more pics. I'll add them to this thread.

Thanks for the great pics! We're heading down that way in early January, your pictures sure make me want that time to come pretty quick.

Nice pictures.

We parked under the "sign" at the Barstow 2 years ago and went to bed... no one said anything. It wasn't a Super so it closed overnight. A couple more pulled in, banged around and left. They apparently didn't have enough hair to do it and decided to "police" the area for WM.

It was one of the worst WM's... no level parking and dirty. I'd have complained if they'ed been open.[emoticon]

Looking forward to your next pictures.

Great shot of your dogs. Is that some type of boundry marker in the wire cage?

Those rocks in the wire baskets are trail markers.

My wife and I fell in love with the Sedona area, so beautiful and tons of great hiking trails.

We are going back next fall this time with the fiver, unless of course I can get a great deal on a TC.

Been there done that, what a great adventure and the West is great. Just don't go above central Arizona in the winter. We hope to go back there, Cody Wyoming next year and of course Arizona. GBY...

as recently as March of this year I stayed there overnight. It's a recent change. The security guy said it was because of "too many problems". I thought that's why they have security.
