On the 5th day of the island hoping cruise the ship landed at Lihu'e, Kauai... the garden island. We were already assembled as the ship landed and we were immediately loaded on the tour bus for a 7 hour excursion with the... Kauai 3 Alii Movie Tour - Polynesian Adventure Tours on Kauai

The incomplete list of the films on the website is impressive.

We would be visiting the areas where movies (and TV shows) have been made.

We were shown clips of movies and then we'd visit the location. Our driver/tour director was entertaining and very knowledgeable about the locations, the trees and flowers along the way. Who owned what properties... who previously owned them... who tried to run over the local zoning boards, stuff like that.

I signed up for this tour to be with my wife... turns out I enjoyed it too!

From their website:
This tour takes you on an action packed Hawaiian Hollywood odyssey where you will explore some of the most romantic, exciting and adventurous movie locations in the world and enlighten you with the rich history of Kauai. This unique narrated tour includes specially licensed video scenes from the various movies and you actually stand in or view exact spots of the shoots. Famous movie scenes include: South Pacific, Jurassic Park, Blue Hawaii, Donovan's Reef, Pagan Love Song, Beachhead, Miss Sadie Thompson, Voodoo Island, Six Days and Seven Nights, Wackiest Ship in the Navy, Raiders of the Lost Ark and more.... Uncommon Valor (due to sensitivity to graphic scenes this video scene may not be shown). Places of interest visited include: Ahukini Pier, Hanamaulu Bay, Otsuka's, Kealia Over Look, Kaupu Ridge, Poipu at Kipu Kai, Aliomanu, Hanalei Pier, Lumahai Beach, Ching Young Village, Hanalei Valley Lookout, Makaiwa Resort Quest, Opaeka'a Falls, Coco Palms and Menehune Fish Pond.

Another was King Kong

Some of the roads would have been hard to find if you weren't on the tour... our minds wnet into over drive... "excellent boondocking spots"... just ahead... Donavans Reef.

There is King Kong... far, far in the back ground... as seen from this site of Donovans Reef (1963, John Wayne, Lee Marvin)

Next: Jurassic Park

....it looks different today... we were there

looking for a good picture

a good photographer would work around the trash cans...

Some seats on the bus aren't as good as others for seeing down the road

We had lunch at this point... and a short walk along the beach. For the first time it occured to me that... we be back on the road in just another 5 or 6 days... time was flying!

We carry a few DVDs in our camper... just in case we need entertainment... some of these old goodies might be fun to look at again.

Blue Hawaii (1961 Elvis Presley)

Some of the scenes were at Diamond Head.

The buildings from the movie are victims of storm damage... and zoning laws...
