Rest up Sleepy, for we can't wait to see your next adventure, for those of us that are still stuck in the working force.

On saturday we landed back in Honolulu.... very happy and very tired.

Our taxi driver pointed out the hotel where Hawaii 5-0 was filmed

and drove us past the Armed Forces Recreation Center that many of our heros visit when on R&R, believe that military retirees can also use the facility

We stayed at the Ilikai Hotel last October. Our friends stayed at Fort DeRussy both are right on Waikiki beach and fun places but the Ilikai is a bit long in the tooth these days. Priceline provided great rates for the Ilikai. We stayed on an upper floor without an ocean view. I could point it out in your picture If I could remember which one it was. No ocean view equals lower cost and a great view of Honolulu. The Ilikai still has a sundown Hawaiian ceremony when they turn on the tiki torches. Fun to watch even if they have been doing it for over 30 years.
Of course staying at Fort DeRussy requires a military connection.

Glad your home safe jet lag takes more out of you as you get older. Thankfully us old farts have more time to recover.

As I said before:

We have now been on Vacation and as promised... I'd like to catch up the rest of the trip report covering the places we visited from Mesa Verde and the Sheep Ranch to boarding the airplane for our Hawaii Vacation.

We traveled west from Cortiz, Colorado through Bluff in southern Utah and then SW through Monument Valley. We boondocked alongside the road where the arrow is on the screen below...

The view was nice if you like cows, they were good neighbors. They didn't get drunk, make a lot of noise, and their childrun were well behaved and stayed close to their mothers.

There are many rocks to look at along this route and it is an easy drive.

Sleepy got took!!! Mark it down.

Reception center... cost $10 to pass this point.

There is a center being built (nothing open)... there was nothing here unless you want to off-road or pay more money for a tour.

They were waving hello to my $10... and a bunch more.

We spotted an unusual French Camper in a shopping center... we'd first met them a couple of months earlier in southern AZ. You might remember to shop here, it is a long way between stores.

We were heading toward Page, Az when we spotted a likely place to park for the night... an abandoned craft stand had a nice gravel parking lot... with a view. We turned the slide toward the mountans and leveled up.

The locals came to visit and show off the baby.

We headed north the next morning, just a few miles away from our night camp we entered the mounains again for the first time since Mesa Verde.

And got our first view of the Grand canyon for this trip.

We are going to Page, then retrace our route on our way to The North Rim of the Grand Canyon... 2009 openning day will be a few more days.

The bulls eye is the location of our night camp.

A city was founded when I was a senior in high school

The dam is Glen Canyon, the water is Lake Powell, the river is the Colorado... and the canyon above the river is the start of the Grand Canyon Gorge.
