We took a tour of the dam... very interesting and cool on a very hot day outside. I won't post it, but will suggest it to anyone that has the time.

You can take a raft trip starting at the bottom of the dam.

Marble canyon and Lees Ferry are on the way to the North Rim

We are driving accross the gorge and taking a picture of a foot bridge up-river toward Lees Ferry.

Now we are on the foot bridge looking back at our camper

The closer we get to Jacobs Lake and the North Rim turn-off the more trees we see. We drove into the woods on the left and stayed overnight... the north rim would open the next day. We shared the woods with a couple from Iran... they were in a motorhome.

First camping trip I took my new Danish born wife on was to southern Utah way back in 1966.
Being a flatlander when we walked across the bridge in your photo she would not walk on the sidewalks. She walked out in the street. Thankfully the drivers were understanding and did not run over her.

As the years have gone by she has gotten used to heights and surprises me these days.

We have tried to visit the North Rim of the Grand Canyon... something always prevented it.

This was the year.... Wednesday May 13th was the day. The state of AZ opened the road at 7am... and we were on our way.

There were snow banks in the woods along the way.

We were focused on a single point in the Park...

with peeks from the North Rim visitor center area. You can vist our photobucket page here and see many of our pictures. Or... you can follow the thread with my comments.

We could see smoke from a controled grass fire... it is very close to the visitor center on the south rim. It makes a good point of reference from anywhere on the North rim.

The South Rim Visitors center is 11 air miles from where I'm taking the picture... it is 215 miles by road. It's hard to see but we are 2000 feet higher than the south rim.

This is the main point to see the canyon from the north rim. Look for the smoke
