Last weekend my wife and I took our first camping trip of the season and our last ski trip of the season. I have been trying to convince her to try some winter camping and so far this is the closest we have come. We drove to Jasper Friday night. Camped 2 nights in the Wapiti Campground and spent the days skiing and set-up in parking lot #4 at Marmot Basin. It was a great way to spend the weekend and finish off the ski season.

On the road north of Grande Cache on Hwy 40.

Near dusk, we spotted a cow and a calf moose not to far from Grande Cache along Hwy 40.

A view of the valley and the Athabasca River from part way up Marmot Basin.

Julie on the slopes. We had a really great day of skiing on Saturday. Conditions were excellent. We were a little less "enthusiastic" on Sunday but had a great day none the less.

Lunch break in the parking lot. A chance to get out the grill and some chairs and enjoy the surrondings.

...with blue cheese loaded homemade burgers...good stuff!

After a day of skiing we drove back down into the valley to camp in the Wapiti campground south of Jasper. We took a unserviced site so we could have a little more privacy and some trees. The powered sites are quite open and more of a parking lot style set-up. My new pair of 6 volt Trojan T105's batteries performed really well. We ran the Honda 2000 to make our coffee in the morning but the batteries stood up to the furnace load and other power requirements more than satisfactorily. The solar panel was able to recharge them nicely throughout the day.

Looks like a nice trip. I was through there in the summer of 96 on the way to Alaska. I loved the Canadian campgrounds with free firewood, and the lakes with the beautiful tourquoise water.

Those burger pics were very nice. I'm going to have to eat now.

The truck and camper and the grill and the chairs and the BURGERS look good but I can't say much for the snow except that's why we go to Arizona in the winter. (To escape the snow, that is.)

Looks great! We camped in the parking lot of Whistler for one night and got kicked out in the morning. lol. That's ok though, we just happened to pick the Telus World Cup weekend which is why I think they did anything.

Next season I am hoping for a few more road trips to smaller resorts that don't care about parking lot boondocking.

PM'd you with a question.

ahhh the days of free firewood!! Wish it was still like that ...

I am surprised how 'snow free' the campsite was. I was in Bragg Creek Friday ceratinly way more snow there than up your way!?
