Very nice. I took the train from Vancouver to Jasper to ski Marmont Basin twice in about 74 and 75. Great skiing. Loved the lodge. Had a blizzard one day and could not find a friend. Turns out the lift operator at the top of the lift thought he had cleared off all the people on the lift when it was shut down due to the blizzard. My two friends were on the last chair before before getting off the lift. They sat there on the lift just out of sight of the lift operator for an hour and a half till a break in the storm occured and the lift operator spotted them. They were freezing and pissed but ok. Beautiful area. Thanks. It brought back fond memories.

Hi all,
Thanks for the comments.
Stefan, The Athabasca valley near Jasper was pretty much snow free.
The campground was in it's "winter camping" status and required self registration. There was firewood available and no indication that I saw that required a "fire permit". We ended up having a fire with free wood and no permit - not sure if those are the rules though.
I asked Marmot Basin about staying in the parking lot and they indicated that they did not/could not allow that and suggested Wapiti campground as the best alternative.
...regards, brad

Looks like a fun trip. We might venture up to the Great White North next winter...

Thanks for the trip report. I like to have one of those beverages mid day also! Later, Dave.

The BC burgers and accompanying beverage (spotted in the picture by Dave) made a great "tailgate" lunch.

Rooster55, The chairs are Outbound Deluxe Directors Chair with side table. You can see the manufacturer website @
http://outbound.ca/chairs/deluxe-directors-chair-with-side-table.html They have a toll free number that may be able to help you locate dealers in your area. We picked them up at a local sporting goods store. We find them both comfortable and functional.

Brad,
I just love "beating the system" like you did essentially 'tailgating' in the ski resort parking lot and using the unimproved site at camp. Looks like you have a great 3 or 4 season camper.
Our snow is finally off here on the west slope, Northern Sierra Nevada, although it snowed a few days ago and melted off.
regards, as always, jefe
