when I was there my friend recommended an old restaurant in Lamy. very interesting, old saloon type with balcony around upstairs. don't know if it is still there but street view in google earth shows what could be it opposite the train station.
check out Taos area, bridge over Rio Grande, old church with "healing" soil.

A couple of places that haven't mentioned: Pecos National Historic Park, Tent Rocks National Monument, and the Turquoise Trail Scenic Byway.

Have a Great Trip!!

Previous posters have covered the area attractions pretty well. We've been to Santa Fe scores of times. One of our favorite "attractions" is the food. Here is our list of places to eat in and around Santa Fe. Our taste in food runs to the hot side. If you are not initiated in the foods of the area, my suggestions may set you on fire from stem to stern. Even we fortify ourselves with Prilosec during a visit to gorge.

Reservations are a must during season especially when the Santa Fe Opera is running. Waits can be obscene without reservations.

The Shed: On the Plaza in a 300 year old house. Our favorite is the blue corn enchiladas with red chili(best in town) served with garlic bread. Out of this world pasole stew. They have some deserts that are great to split between two people (helps kill the fire).

Maria's New Mexican Resturant: A favorite of locals for decades. If you are a real "pro" with a taste for the hot, their carne adovada will delite you and light you up. Their mixed Mexican platter has a wonderful sample of everything including the carne. Ask them to substitute the pasole stew for beans. They have about 100 different tequillas on hand and about as many different marguritas. Our taste is to the traditional side. Fun to do flights of tequilla to expand your horizons.

Rancho de Chimeyo: Located on the old high road between Taos and Santa Fe. Not as spicey as Maria's but wonderful flavors. The zuchini enchiladas and carne are a favorite. They may or may not be open yet after a devistating kitchen fire.

Pasquales: Best breakfast burrito in town. Locals pack the place. Located off the Plaza.

The Ore House: Great place to sit on the balcony overlooking the Plaza. Food is OK but the show on the Plaza makes it special.

Quiche and pastry shop at LaFonda Hotel: On the Plaza. Wonderful place for a lighter breakfast.

These are our favorites but there are scores of other places to eat from from overly expensive Continental to over prices over Americanized Mexican food. Some good veg head resturants and ethnic places too.
